I got to shovel ice on my sidewalk this morning. Our super is on vacation in Thailand for 8 weeks or something and the backup guy hadn't gotten out there yet. On the plus side, I got a new computer (netbook) today so I'll be traveling ~6 pounds lighter next weekend. :D |

I have quite the routine now, grab(ie. struggle) to get the ladder across the snow banks and up against the roof without putting out a window, long roof rake to pull down the snow as far as I can reach, shorter(lighter) roof rake to actually pull the pile off roof, axe to get rid of the ice damn at the bottom of the valley, bowl full of snow melter stuff heaved up the ice mid way up.

My superpowers are available for rent. As you may recall, I managed to get it up into the upper 50s just after Christmas. As soon as I entered French Canadia (my Kryptonite), temps plunged to the single-digits for nearly a week.

As for camera bag, I have Canon backpack (good deal, about $30 from Amazon.com); but usually I use the Crumpler "6 Million Dollar Home" shoulder bag that's very spacious but doesn't look like a camera bag. Enough room for one dSLR body, 3-4 lens and a flash.

This is what I use (similar to what you are looking at). I love it. It manages to hold my Macbook, DSLR Body, Lens, Filters, and assorted cables and mini-tripods with ease. I could probably easily squeeze another pair of lenses in there, as well (if not three additional lenses). It is compact, which I like (so requires organized packing), but I like that it is light, doesn't take up a lot of space, and carries my essentials.

Afternoon, everyone...
 at CO for just slashing BOS-EWR frequencies by at least one flight a day. 1129 is gone, starting this coming fri and through the end of January. Which now means I'll only have 50mins to make my connection on the 20th, instead of 2hrs. On the positive side, I already dug my car out, so hurray for extra 30mins sleep tomorrow :) |

Wow, I never knew such a bag existed. I'm very tempted to order one ASAP before we head to Europe in a few weeks. One of the challenges I've always had is packing both my laptop and larger camera, which is only a few centimeters smaller than the average DSLR. I end up carrying two bags, which is a major pain, and I once almost left the camera bag behind at security. A single bag solution for laptop and camera would be ideal.

I have enjoyed my eeePC, but really want something a bit more robust for biz travel. These netbooks are teasing me left and right!

Mine's in the mail! I decided dragging around my 17" HP was ridiculously heavy. How much RAM did you put in it?

It maxes at 1.5GB. It is a royal PITA to swap the RAM out on the Acer - about 15 screws and 20 minutes work. Other than that, however, I'm pretty happy with it as a system. I forgot that it doesn't have BlueTooth that my main laptop has, so I need to find a solution to that. And I'm considering an iGo or something similar for air travel, though I don't fly the 767s too often on CO and the others will all have standard plugs. It has taken a bit of time to clean off all their junk that is pre-installed and get to my preferred configuration (I'm still working on it), but I love the form factor and the weight.

Tried any of the others out there?
My biggest concern was screen size, and that is pretty much the same across all of them, so I'll stick with this one. |
