You're describing the Toro Tartare on the on appetizer menu. It is meh, IMO.

Part of the delicious of good tuna is the mouth feel you get from the texture of the slices. The fine mincing that is used in that preparation changes that quite a bit. Also, the variety of sauces and such that they offer do not really add to the flavor enough for me. Then again, I'm a huge fan of straight sushi/sashimi so mucking with that seems like a bad idea to me.

Of course, going to Morimoto just for sushi is a bit misguided since he's much more famous for his cuisine - rightfully so - even as good as the sushi is. The key there is a balanced attack on the menu. And a reasonably high limit on one's CC.

Speaking of which, Chase must really love me. The limits they've given me on my UA and CO PPlus cards are ridiculous.

I have never had a tuna tartare, much less a toro tartare....so I am not quite aware of the textural issue in the end, however I will keep it in mind and tone down my anticipation when I actually try it, as you always end up better in the end when you don't go in with high expectations anyway.

Good morning box.

Holman "poaching" that goal was an apt description.

Thanks. Flight went fine and the captain was able to make it to IAH within 15 minutes from original ETA, so I went back to the original plan: shower at E PC before my next flight. Now CO378 is delayed to 9:55 due to ATC. Should board in a while.

Going to be a tough match for AUS now ...

colpuck Jun 19, 2010 8:30 am

damn you UA!!!!

They sold the last seat on the plane seconds before I could book it.

Morning, Box.

Teh IN-TER-NET! is down in my neighborhood, apparently as a result of last night's storms. I'm not going to let that stop me though. 3G FTW.

Not going to complain too much, though - we didn't lose power, like a lot of other folks did - just a couple of flickers that didn't even disrupt anything.

Been there, done that, too. @:-)

It's not as someone I knew who bought a book of generic restaurant order slips and receipts at OfficeMax. She then "ate" at Won Ching China Palace every week she went to a certain client for a year to recover a variety of travel expenses that were not allowed by that client's travel and expense policy. Apparently Won Ching was a legitimate business in the town that was cash only, and gave customers an order slip with a tear-off receipt on the bottom.

On board flight 408 iah-ewr. Equipment swap meant 8 F passengers were downgraded. I was not one of them :-:

They asked for F passenger volunteers to take downgrade for $250. I took it and am now in seat 7A instead. Fine by me for a short flight! Now I have $250 to use for a MR :D

Very nice! If you can't seem to find a good way to use, I am here to help!

Time to do some shopping as mens clothing as most is on sale (I think I'll pass on the three pack of thongs I saw on the front page of Macy's website) as well as mens and womens watches so time for a new cheapy. Then the excitement rolls into me mowing the lawn in the heat of the day. :rolleyes:h the excitment.

I too would have no problem staying there or at the Marriott nearby.

Agreed. The hotels over there are generally fine. The real problems in the neighborhood are back in the massive low-rent apartment complexes that are all over the area, and even then, the crime rates there are nothing compared to what they were 15 years ago. But the Gunspoint reputation has stuck, even though it has been well over a decade since the neighborhood was in the news almost every evening for some sort of violent crime happening.

The pup learned the standard Turtle Interdiction protocol this morning. We were at a pond ("tank", in Texan) doing water retrieving. Pup has grown bored with the Lab's swimming thing, and was nosing around the brush in the adjoining oak/cedar grove, when suddenly she started to yap excitedly.

The Lab broke off working, to see what she had. Turtle maybe 10 in long, 8 wide. He started to show her what you do in this case: If too big to carry home, use an less angry Intruder Cry, circle it incessantly, never take you eyes off it, paw it gingerly at least once per orbit, and wait for the Boss to get there and deal with it.

Once I picked it up and moved it to the sand closer to the water, he was satisfied and ready to do some more retrieving. The pup proceeded to practice what she had learned, but was quickly becoming annoyed and disappointed that I wasn't responding to her. So, the morning was cut a little short, although it's getting hotter by the minute, and we carried it home.

Now I have to force the pup back into her pen, which will make her as mad as a GS being put in Y, put it on the Gator, and find some place to put the stupid reptile where it's unlikely they'll quickly find it again.
