Anyone familiar with Guatemala? I'm considering it for Labor Day weekend.

I went there about 15 yrs ago. Not much to do and the country is rather poor. Great deals on hammocks. I stayed at a Sheraton and there was a sign in the bathroom not to drink the tap water. Of course I saw that after I brushed my teeth a few times.

A couple of co-workers have gone and enjoyed themselves but I do believe you have to venture outside the city.

I've been there a few times (although I'm no expert). For a weekend trip, you'd probably want to head to Antigua (about 45 minutes outside of Guatemala City), a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is a very good central point for things in the area. You can stay and eat for VERY cheap and it's a pretty safe town with great architecture. Day trips out of Antigua are quite easy to find - I'd recommend Panajachel (Pana), a nice town on Lake Atitlan and/or Chichicastenango (Chichi) which has a fantastic market two days of the week (Thursdays and Sundays?). Volcan Pacaya is also a nice place to go if you'd like to hike up to the top of an active volcano.

Here are a few pictures from one of my trips to Antigua and Volcan Pacaya. Unfortunately, a few days after returning from another trip, I lost the memory card that had all of my pictures from Chichi.

There isn't much to do in Guatemala City itself, but it's a good idea to spend the night there before a morning flight home as Guatemala traffic can be very bad.

You know, you really can have that at DEN. Scray fact — the Panda Express there opens around 7:30 AM and only serves the lunch and dinner menu.

Hartmann, or any other D-SLR fans. Is this deal @ Costco a good one for the Canon? Hartmann, what model do you have?

It's $200 less at amazon but without the case and SD card.

Yes it does.

Ok, will let you know.

It's a real budget saver when you can wear the same clothes at work and at home.:-:^

COPA is also offering the NYC-GUA fare, including from EWR, and COPA has much more generous routing rules:

EWR(CO)MIA/ORL-PTY-GUA
EWR-PTY-SJO-GUA
EWR(CO/CM)MIA/ORL-PTY-SJO-GUA
EWR(CO/CM)PTY-SJO-GUA
EWR(CO/CM)PTY-MGA-GUA
EWR(CO/CM)MIA/ORL-PTY-MGA-GUA

Indeed it is. Far too expensive for what we get, anyways. I love my country more than sliced bread itself, but the Europeans deliver a MUCH better value for money when it comes to nightclubs.

That may be a better deal. SD cards are pretty inexpensive. And, I do not need a case.
