Nothing too exciting... a pretty platinum-colored bag with water, milanos, truffles, apple, deck of cards, and stuff about the Chase PP card.

We already have one PPCard in the house - I'm probably not going to grab one myself. We'll see.

No I get back the 22, but that link points to Greece, did I read correctly?

A post I composed yesterday afternoon and then forgot to actually "send"

First of all, thank you for all the DC/BWI discussion. It's a subject about which I knew very little until recently, and with which it would really behoove me to get more familiar.

YUP.

Great title. This afternoon's next task is composing an email to my mother full of crow and humble pie, in the interest of not having to assume the entire Financial Drain rather than just part of it.

Looking at two options for a flight next Wed the 16th:

218 EWR-TPA dep 6:30p, arrive 9:39p
318 EWR-TPA dep 8:35p, arrive 11:44p

No checked bags, can't leave Manhattan until about 4:45p or so. Have an hour drive to Sarasota after arrival for meetings the next morning, and I'm already going to be short on sleep from flying into NYC early that morning.

Here's the real dilemma: the earlier flight is a 738, and the later one is a 739. I'm sportin silver these days, and a look at the seat maps shows an upgrade possible on either flight (exits are empty, elite sections with a smattering of seats filled, back is packed), but it clearly looks like the later flight has a better shot. However, there is dinner in F on the earlier flight and just drinks on the later one. Furthermore, I'm guessing the earlier one will have a 45 minute taxi, while the later one should be only 10 or so.

This has been addressed by many already, but I'd like to add a +1 to the thought that making it in time for a 6:30 flight is going to be TIGHT. Not necessarily impossible, but I personally would rather avoid the inevitable freaking-out as you cross your fingers on the train.

Same here. We're on a new-laptop-every-3-years plan, I've just completed 2 with mine. I assume that those who will get new ones starting this fall and here on out will have Win7; how we'll deal with a 2-OS environment for a couple years I don't know.

As soon as possible. It'll make you feel better, give another dimension to the progress, and provide a whole host of other health benefits besides just the dropping numbers.

Do you and Connection and/or your friends have any things like running/biking/tennis that you both enjoy?

It's such a unique club with great views, and I like to take at least 15 minutes there to enjoy it. Hell, I even hang out there for a bit after flights sometimes. It's one of my favorite clubs and who knows whether they will keep it after the merger.

I agree with you on that club. It has always been one of my favorites. I spent about 3 hours there last Friday afternoon, as I got off the plane and had several back-to-back conference calls for work I needed to take before hopping on Metro and heading home.

I've only been in there once, but I agree, it's really nice. Was very sad to be sitting only a few yards away from its door during my very very long delay at DCA this past weekend.

+1. No issues. And the one time they screwed something up (charged a fee that - as I understood it - they shouldn't have), they explained that I had actually missed the exact nuance of the rule, but (as I had never made any such mistake before) they agreed to waive it "just this once". Can't complain too much.

What's the best non-rush route from PHL (actually more interested in your opinion for NJ Turnpike points)? Over Tappan Zee, though NY state, or GWB? Does it change if final destination is PVD and not BOS?

I would think that this would depend on the traffic on the bridges. We usually take the GWB going from Philly to Westchester but the traffic was pretty bad last time and we might have done better to take the Tappan Zee.

My suggestion, again based in part on 10-year-old experience, would be:

NJ Turnpike to [Garden State/Tappan Zee/287] or [GWB/Henry Hudson Parkway/Cross County] to the Hutchinson River Parkway to the Merritt.

Going to Boston you'd go from the Merritt to I-91 to I-84 to the Mass Pike.

Going to Providence you'd go from the Merritt to I-95 somewhere around New Haven.

I would recommend staying far away from the Cross Bronx/Bruckner/New England Thruway.

Generally, the GWB is only your best choice if you're driving through at...oh, midnight, or something like that. I would take 287/Tappan Zee for sure.

The Cr:rolleyes:ss Br:rolleyes:nx has been labeled "the worst 5 miles of highway in America" and I believe it. The first time I ever drove into NYC (from further north in the Hudson Valley) I ended up coming in on this road on a Friday afternoon and it was truly horrifying.

In my mind, that experience for enough SPG points to get 25,000 FF miles is a screaming redemption value. Getting to Greece at precisely that time might be a bit of a challenge but ...

This is a good point. In the absence of funds for a membership somewhere, I might just have to go pick up some freeweights.

We are pretty much friendless in this area. All of her friends are already married with kids and have moved away. The one couple that I know out here (best man and his girlfriend) essentially have zero downtime since the girl is in a Master's program and working full-time and the guy just got admitted to the Rutgers dual-degree MBA/JD program. Combine my odd schedule with her normal schedule, and that she doesn't like gyms and doesn't much like to sweat and it's a recipe for .

The Cross Bronx is a workout for the car when the road is empty, what with the potholes and such. If you catch it at good times it's not that bad at all. I have way too much experience with it, since I used to have to take the exit for Jerome Ave. to get to an aunt and uncle's house.

We used to get a new one every three years, but it's now every four. As far as I know, the new ones that are being issued right now still have Windows XP.
