DEFINITELY head down town and get a room there. The tube will get you to Knightsbridge or downtown in fairly short order (40mins) and the fare is relatively cheap. If you can get an Oyster card for traveling around the city which will include the fare from Heathrow if need be. You can get a decent rate in London right now on hotels.
The tube starts early enough in the morning to get you back to Heathrow in time for your flight. You won't have to worry about you bags at all, just lugging them up/down the caverns of the tube stations. Hatton Cross is in Zone 5 while LHR is in Zone 6, so yuo save a zone charge. Hatton Cross is also a bus hub so there is a backup plan. I generally stay at the Marriott, Sheraton or the Rennaisance (faces the northwern runways. :) and you can take the 285 bus to Hatton Cross. |

The best part of staying there is the ability to cut the line for the rooftop bar. The room decor is a bit wierd, IMO, but that's just my take on it. It also has a unique location, but the St Regis also is in a good location (just a few blocks from teh W, in fact).

I would personally stay in the city the first night. The hour long tube ride gets old very quickly. That combined with the tube stopping at midnight forces you to have an 'early' night unless you want to figure out the buses.
I do like the idea of being in town on Thursday morning when we wake up though I'm not sure how I'll feel at 11pm when we're slogging in to the hotel lobby for check-in. Then again, with the daytime flight from NYC we should be OK. So I guess it is just a matter of whether we hotel hop and head out in the evening after dinner or if we are up early for the tube ride. Probably doesn't really matter. |
Frustrating day in the office - not getting a darn thing done.

Best hotel room review I've read in a while...

What the eff is going on with the seat selector on co.com? First, I get EUA'd and am told that my seat will be assigned at the airport. I assume that there was only one seat left, but check the seatmap, and see seven seats available. I select 3B, click "continue," and the seat changes to 4F. It looks like I finally got it to stick, but wth?

That's what I figured; time to update the records.
Well, I'm only going to be making the round trip on the tube once. If we sleep out at the airport on arrival we won't be going in to town. Similarly, once we leave town on Thursday night or Friday morning we're out at the airport until departure. Yes, the ride will get old, but we have to do it once and we're only doing it once so I don't see that as a huge issue. How do EUAs work on IAH-SEA-ANC when both segments are operated with the same flight number (and it was ticketed as a single flight)? Can you clear on each individual segment or do both need to have availability to clear?
Our IAH-SEA-ANC flight for September went from a 738 to a 753. :-: |
