Two other passengers decided to join us in LH F from IAH-FRA. How dare they! :p

We're still the only two upstairs on FRA-JNB and JNB-FRA. ^

It isn't horrible. It's in a meh area of town, and the rooms aren't anything special (they didn't try very hard when they converted it from whatever it used to be before Katrina). The common areas are nice, but the rooms are uninspiring. You should get free breakfast coupons as a Plat, though. It isn't horrible, it just wouldn't be my first choice.

If you had booked the 4P by the airport, I would counsel avoidance, even on a prepaid stay. However, the Sheraton Metairie doesn't reach that level of

Ok, good to hear that it's not too terrible! The $80/night was difficult to pass on when we aren't planning on being in the room very long. I'm guessing we will arrive from TYS around 10pm and will probably be out around 8 or 9 the next morning to see New Orleans.

Sounds like we'll have to plan a follow-up Tubing DO. One of the benefits of a summer that lasts through October. :D

That should be easy to arrange. The area around New Braunfels/San Marcos also has a number of German restaurants to choose from. The crispy Central Texas variety of chicken-fried steak is available in that region. ^

Hello from the E club in IAH. I was to late to get to the agent in PHL for a bump. They offered 300 to two passengers. Now the ANC flight is oversold by 8.

If there is a tubing DO count me in. ^

Attention Texas Boxers and Pitizens... there is talk of tubing the weekend of July 17. :-:

Jealous! We did quite a few tubing excursions during summers in BTR. Lots of fun, even when you get knocked off the tube, dragged underneath it through a few small rapids, and emerge looking like the worse end of a fight due to all the rocks and branches on the riverbed. :p

ALCO, have you stayed at the Sheraton New Orleans? Is the W French Quarter worth an extra $30 a night? At $199 and $229, I'm not really thrilled about either.

Since we will be arriving pretty late, we also have one night at the Sheraton Metairie. Have you stayed there?

Looks like it's a little late for you, but FYI - I had a good experience at the other W New Orleans, on Poydras St. It's not at all far from the French Quarter, and (at least for the weekend I needed) it was competitively priced against the other SPG properties in town.

W Poydras is my favorite SPG property in Nola, followed by teh Westin.

If it wasn't for the $259+ price tag, the W Poydras would be my pick as well. I just can't justify spending that kind of money for a stopover on a move/long drive. Sadly, the Westin does not have any rooms available that weekend. :(

Does anyone know if SPG50s are worth anything at the Ws in New Orleans?

The Sheraton is perfectly acceptable, especially if you get one of their suites.

Save your cash and stay at the Sheraton N.O. The W FQ is one of my least favorite Ws, unless you get a carriage-house room w/jacuzzi tub in the backyard (they only have 2).

Avoid the Sheraton Metairie at all costs. The same applies for the 4P by the airport.

They remodeled the 4P, it really isn't all that bad, price is usually right, the bar is fairly lively and shuttle is prompt

Did they fix the extremely noisy a/c units and terrible, constant noise from I-10?

ConciergeMike May 17, 2010 8:28 am

Morning, Box.

sdm1130 May 17, 2010 8:33 am

Shot in the dark: Does anyone in The Box have a Roku box that they have used with an MLB.TV subscription? I'm trying to figure out how I will get my Yankees fix in TX. :)

AMF in NJ May 17, 2010 8:35 am

Howdy Box. :-:

First day back in the office since 04/23.

Agree re: W FQ. It was just "eh". Last time I visited my hometown we stayed at the Roosevelt on Canal, a newly renovated HH property. Well worth the $199/nt ^
