@:-) If the idea of universal health care does not appeal to you, you might wish to find a different country to plan to relocate to. Brazil has universal health care. ;)

Health care is not a stumbling block for me. What grates my cheese is the rapidly diminishing lack of personal freedom and the perversion of the Founding Fathers' thoughts that has been happening over the last 20 years or so.

Must be nice.

no doubt, I was offered a cushy position and being from US it is easier to work there than from rest of europe due to some legacy agreements in place.

i.e. personal mandate. :-:

Besides, the Intrepid itself is not really a museum anymore. If you go there now, you'll notice that the ship is a lot cleaner and visually nicer, but there was no renovation done that is for the public to see. The real "renovation" was the installation of a command bunker as a fallback for another attack on NYC.

The real reason for the renovation was that the pier was literally falling apart. They needed to move the ship to redo the pier. They used that as an opportunity to do some work on the boat, too.

I do like the fact that Switzerland doesn't have all this stinkin light pollution at nights in the cities with street lights every few feet on interstate roadways however!

At least in Texas the number of lights that pollute is steadily decreasing. For over 15 years now, any new streetlight installations provided by the Texas Department of Transportation are required to be full cutoff fixtures. Those are fixtures that direct all light downward, and none upward. There are still tons of the older polluting fixtures out there, and counties and cities in many cases aren't following the state's lead, but at least those on state-maintained roadways are increasingly becoming non-polluting fixtures.

I have friends, and standing job offers there, so such would not be a bad option for me, and I'd pay more in taxes, but make 3-4x more than here too....

I'd jump all over that in a heartbeat without even thinking about it.

The pier needed the help, yes. But the fact remains that the work done to the ship for the public's eyes was not much at all. The bulk of it was done for the installation of the super-secret command center.

I'm with you on much of that...
But I think you'll be just as unhappy elsewhere once you move and discover what's really going on. The grass really isn't greener on the other side of the septic tank.

In reading this thread, how can anyone just not lock up their room when inside .

Just two weeks ago a co-worker arrived late at a hotel and after checking in went to room, opened door and found someone sound asleep.

Thanks! We're excited by this opportunity. The biggest issue will be our condo in Atlanta, which we'll probably end up renting for at least a year. Fortunately we bought this place at such a good price two years ago, before the bottom really fell out of housing prices, that we wouldn't be selling at a loss. However, after talking with our realtor and looking at what similar units in this building are selling for, it looks like not trying to sell for another 12-18 months, and renting it out in the meantime, would probably be a better deal in the long run.

I know, I was (mostly) kidding about the Switzerland idea. ;)
