I can give it up because I made an effort never to start, it is just to easy to fall into it at the wrong time. :D

I don't chastise people around me, none of my business, I am a very personal choice kinda person...

I at least got to ride some DC-9-15s with Texas International. One of my earliest memories was seeing the AM DC-8 at MZT, and telling my dad I wanted to ride on it.

The limited scope of our vacation destinations greatly restricted the variety of carriers and types I was exposed to. At least I got to do some intra-Mexico flights with MX on 727s, AM flights on their decrepit DC-9s (even in the 80s they were in rough shape), and a good bit of CO back in the meatball days.

I didn't realize UA had DC-8s in service until 1992. I don't think I ever flew anything other than a 727 or 737 in the days when CLE had a UA mini-hub (we only ever flew to TPA and FLL, as I recall).

US-SYD routes are so useless on the large planes that will make the distance, they don't even make enough to pay for the maintenance and 'mortgage' but at 5 mil, no biggie :)

No, but those routes are still fun to have a few of. I'm running a ton of long haul flights now. I'm determined to connect as many dots on my map as I can.

I've cut down on my swearing; but I still let words slip I shouldn't :o

I always did great on candy, champagne, et al; why the foxtrot is swearing so hard!:!

that is all

There aren't enough of those to make that plane "clean." It really needed to have the interior completely replaced. It really was that awful looking inside. It was absolutely the saddest looking airplane I've been on in the last 15 years.

I believe DL had its DC-8s in service even longer.

I don't know that I've ever been multi-quoted to such an extent. :D

Before turning 21, I had flown less than 75K lifetime miles, and had never been out of North America. I've been making up for lost time, ever since.

Same here, although it took until I was 30 to leave North America.

The all-knowing, occasionally correct Wikipedia says 1991.

My little Texan has rodeo days tomorrow. She is wearing chaps (over jeans), Texas western T, leather fringe vest, red boots (sort of cowboy, it works with the outfit), a red cowboy hat, red bandana and denim purse that says Texas (she asked why she needed that and I said "because I made it"). I must say, she has it going on. Will be going to school to see what they do for Rodeo days; already provided the teacher with chili supplies, and know they had to take a yardstick to school so guessing that's a horse. I'll miss the open house next week, so hope tomorrow is good.

PENALTY BOX MINI-DO - AUSTIN V2.0

Mrs. Mackie and I have discussed it and we would like to invite any Boxers who would like to join us for an afternoon/evening of beer, wine, and meat to come up to our house just north of Austin, Texas. We're scheduling this Do/housewarming for Saturday, April 10, 2010. We have about four cases of various beers and several bottles of wine to chose from, and that bottle of Maker's Mark isn't going to drink itself. :D

There will be more details in 2.0 as soon as I type them up. There is an alternate date if this is a bad time for everyone so please let me know your thoughts. http://rolleye.com/cheers.gif

Edit: Date is now set for April 10, 2010. :-:

Howdy!
Been too dang busy working and traveling!!

Recap:
- a week in ILM (first US flights in 2+yrs, leave a day early due to impending storm, work 18+hrs/day x 6 days, return 2 days late due to idiocy of others; net gain of 1 free Avis day for their screw-up, a liver-transplants-worth of company sponsered drinking, and a very nice EQM mistake in my favor :) )

- Lovely 5-day vacation in Deer Valley (Park City, UT). Pre-vacation bliss interupted by the BF's possibility of postponing due to needing to resign current job in light of new job, and ANOTHER impending storm...) Find out 12hrs before departure that we are, for real, going on vacation (if the storm doesn't beat us to the starting line.) Luckily had mileage upgrades secured for us both LGA-IAH-SLC, first flight of the day before the rain turned to blizzard.
Back to work, hours suck...I need to win the lottery!!

Welcome back! You can join the line in the corner for the "waiting to win the lottery line". :D

So how was the skiing?

colpuck Mar 4, 2010 8:01 pm

and signed up for the AA card.

DL had the DC-8s in service until around 1990 as well. The type held on for a long time in part due to -70 series DC-8s, which were -60 series airframes with new engines and some cockpit enhancements. The conversions of those planes that were done in the late 1970s and early 1980s made them viable for commercial service for another 10-15 years.
