My family growing up was the "once a year to the same place" sort. At least the same place was generally somewhere in Mexico (usually MZT).

As a result, I didn't really get an opportunity to travel regularly until I was under my own steam.

I don't mind the vacation on the beach in Florida every year. Wife and I are going to be there at the end of March and again in October assuming everything happens as expected. Adding a 3rd trip - on a holiday weekend that we have historically used for far-flung travel to celebrate our anniversary - just isn't going to happen. I suggested that doing something "big" would get our attention but that just another weekend at the beach wouldn't. Since her idea of a big vacation is a week at the beach apparently I'm an inconsiderate arsehole.

All good points. I found it curious that after I began traveling extensively, my parents then objected to me missing Thanksgiving. Considering we never celebrated Thanksgiving when I was growing up, I found that a bit odd.

I convinced them to have Christmas early this year, so I could make my way to Namibia. :D

Unfortunately, we flew WN and AA more often than anyone else when I was a kid. Had we been a DL family I probably would have been able to get both of those as a kid.
