All the Jersey Shore lovers and haters might have a reason to watch Rachael Ray: "The Jersey Shore Make-Under" -- the girls are getting de-guidettefied.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned it but cigarman started a thread in the AA forum about having to pay a $40 departure tax at PTY because his layover was greater than 6 hours. All the MEX MR's include a 10 hour stop so we'll probably all get hit for it.
No additional outlay. My recollection is that AA and CO have long been pricing differently for PTY in terms of those taxes. |

The Anthropology Museum is one of the favorites -- you can spend days there going through the various exhibits. Just a word of warning: all museums in MEX are closed Mondays and most - if not all - are free on Sundays so while you'll save some money, Sundays tend to be a very busy day (free people watching! ;) )
I'd *highly* recommend you rely on airport, "sitio" (radio taxis that you call), or hotel taxis. Do not just flag a taxi down on the street -- it's not worth the safety gamble. Any restaurant/museum/hotel/establishment can call a sitio taxi for you or you could get the phone number for a hotel taxi driver. There's a pretty good thread on Mexico City Taxis Decoded in the MEX forum. I don't mean to be alarmist -- you can be safe in Mexico City as long as you follow basic precautions (most are the same as any big city with transportation/taxis being the one additional caveat). I'd hate to hear of a Boxer-in-trouble ;) |

Many carriers only contract for roaming voice service in some locales. That said, I wouldn't think MEX to be one of them. Anyway, for whatever it's worth, feel free to add me to your list of people you can call with random Internet needs; I have other friends that do it all the time. :)
I was trying to call folks farther west due to timezone issues. Didn't want to wake folks up if I didn't have to. It was just prior to 10pm Pacific time so those folks were still awake and I had an option in Hawaii in a pinch before I had to consider East/Central time or begging him to find me an internet cafe to avoid waking my wife. |

Thanks, Tinkerer. The Box Party Trip on the JFK-PTY-MEX run will be leaving JFK on Sat morning and will be in MEX for about 6-7hrs on Sunday. We already have rooms booked at the airport Hilton for Sat. night (we arrive really late and figured it was easy to stay at the airport). Sounds like the best thing to do is take a sitio cab dowtown, maybe see the museum, grab some lunch, don't drink the water so a stink-shield isn't needed on the way home, do some people watching and then head back to the airport. Whaddya think?

I'm very curious to see what they look like normalized...I think once again that the girls are not in on the joke, as the teaser made it sound like Rachael was redoing their look to create confidence in young girls. The message appeared to be "You don't have to look like a slut to have friends". |

If I'm done before 10 pm tonight (class and rehearsal nonstop with two half-hour breaks) it will be a miracle. |

I paid absolutely nothing extra yesterday while transiting PTY. Back in March '08 fozz and I had to buy an entry card for $5 but I didn't even have to do that this time. I just walked through the immigration line, tried to explain that I just wanted some lunch on my layover and then, a few hours later, headed back through security to departure.

Thanks for the info. Were you 4/4 on upgrades? The weekend of the 2/27 - 2/28 is starting to look full on the PTY-MEX portion and the PTY-JFK is zeroed out in all buckets (but the CM website will still sell me 8 F tix )
I'm really not sure which inventory query is accurate for CM flights; I can't quite figure it out. Just let it happen, or drop the miles and trump everyone else. ;) |
