I can't get a detailed receipt to know, :(

What is so great about that lounge? The cup o noodles? The bright fluorescent lights overhead? I was never that impressed with it, though it does offer free wifi and is generally quiet.

Its free with star gold (unlike the PC, RCC, and USair stuff), The sandwiches are better than anything to be found in said lounges, and yes I tend to be the only one in it!

Also, Tiger beer.

So sad to see all the folks flying on NH walking into the RCC when the SKL is better. Then again, the SKL is much smaller so I'm not all that upset.

Good , box. Sitting at the WN gate in LIT waiting for STL.

COFreqFlyer Feb 15, 2010 5:42 am

So I've had a request from ronjon and his plus1 (aka Dad and Mom) to come over and visit them for a few days, and to "bring my chainsaw". Hmmm, smells like work to me.

This is definitely not falling into a WWTBD, since I already know the answer to that. ;) I'd call this more of a warning, as I'm thinking about driving over to the greater AUS metroplex this coming weekend, flying off to ABQ on the 22nd, and returning from ABQ to AUS on Friday the 26th.

Yeah. :D^

Realize that I would be giving up my likely only opportunity to go skiing this season, but if I can get back into town and go to that place and have a beverage or three with the Box... I think it could be justified. ;)

Yes, I'm bored waiting for boarding.

Good morning, Box. A snow flurried holiday for me.:-:;)

Oy.

Time to collapse and sleep like a king.

Many carriers only contract for roaming voice service in some locales. That said, I wouldn't think MEX to be one of them. Anyway, for whatever it's worth, feel free to add me to your list of people you can call with random Internet needs; I have other friends that do it all the time. :)

Please do; you should have my contact info if needed for Friday but if not let me know.

Worst. Gift. Ever.

I'm liked well enough to not have gotten one :D

sbm12 just did the MEX run and said he was not charged the departure tax. I think the fee is bundled into the CM ticket.

Good Morning and Happy Everyone but FT Lurker Haz the Day Off Day!

Good morning all. Woke up at 0530 today

Regarding MEX, I spoke with my well-traveled aunt the other day and she strongly recommended that one of the best things to do there if you have a few hours and are up for some culture is check out the anthroplogy museum. Here's a link http://www.mna.inah.gob.mx/muna/mna_ing/main.html

The Anthropology Museum is one of the favorites -- you can spend days there going through the various exhibits. Just a word of warning: all museums in MEX are closed Mondays and most - if not all - are free on Sundays so while you'll save some money, Sundays tend to be a very busy day (free people watching! ;) )

MEX has a fantastic subway system from what I hear but I'm not sure if you can get close enough to the museum with it. By taxi it's about 10km and admission is 51 pesos (less than $4.00).

I'd *highly* recommend you rely on airport, "sitio" (radio taxis that you call), or hotel taxis. Do not just flag a taxi down on the street -- it's not worth the safety gamble. Any restaurant/museum/hotel/establishment can call a sitio taxi for you or you could get the phone number for a hotel taxi driver.

There's a pretty good thread on Mexico City Taxis Decoded in the MEX forum.

I don't mean to be alarmist -- you can be safe in Mexico City as long as you follow basic precautions (most are the same as any big city with transportation/taxis being the one additional caveat). I'd hate to hear of a Boxer-in-trouble ;)

You're guess is right, Mackieman - data usually does work in MEX.
Maybe sbm's phone just got confused with so much traveling, or it got tired too ;)

Thanks, Tinkerer. The Box Party Trip on the JFK-PTY-MEX run will be leaving JFK on Sat morning and will be in MEX for about 6-7hrs on Sunday. We already have rooms booked at the airport Hilton for Sat. night (we arrive really late and figured it was easy to stay at the airport). Sounds like the best thing to do is take a sitio cab dowtown, maybe see the museum, grab some lunch, do some people watching and then head back to the airport. Whaddya think?
