For the first time in over a year I got the travel nazi "we've found a cheaper fare" e-mail from our corporate travel agent this morning. They're trying to put me on a non-stop DL CRJ that's $30-40 less than my CO flights I selected that have a connection at IAH. I am not happy.

I'd pay the $30 out of pocket in a heartbeat.
I e-mailed them back and told them that I would not accept the change. Part of this was started by me accidentally clicking the "refundable only" option to compare the price between the refundable and non-refundable fares. So what the travel agent originally balked at was the difference between the refundable CO fare and non-refundable DL fare, due to their website sending the wrong ticket request. But now I've told them to go back and refare it at the lowest possible price on CO, which is the price that's $30 more than the DL nonstop CRJ. I also told them that I didn't mind the extra time, and that the difference in aircraft equipment was important to me. We'll see where that gets me. In the end if it comes down to it I'll tell them I'll just not submit the last $30 for reimbursement. It's been ages since they've pulled this stunt with me, but for some reason when they do, it's always at this time of year. I'm convinced they must either do some sort of audit late in the year, or the company's contract with the travel agent comes up for renewal about now. In any case, it's ridiculous we have to pay them $23 per ticket bought (or per change to an existing ticket) and then have to deal with them throwing a fit over a $30 fare difference. |
Just dropping in for my 9,500th post.

ssulivan: 1. Big bad travel agent: 0.
I got my CO flights. I also got a slap on the hands via e-mail about not supporting our preferred corporate carriers. Big deal. If they give us such great discounts, how come the prices the travel agent quotes on their flights are the same prices I can get on those airlines' websites, or Orbitz, or Travelocity, or Expedia? And then the travel agent reminded me that the IAH-BTR segments were on regional jets that had seats the same size as the DL flights I was trying to avoid. I didn't feel the need to expound to her the differences in comfort level between row 12 on a COEX ERJ for a 30 minute flight versus row anything on a DL CRJ for a 90 minute flight. End result is I got what I wanted. And I will go back to booking flights at 7:00-8:00 PM on Friday nights, when the weekend people at the travel agency are working, since they seem not to care what I book. |

Ahhh, the beauty of Kauai in the morning.......
And my a$$ is still sore from sitting on a DL 752 from LAX to LIH. I do not ever recall being so darn uncomfortable after a 5 hour flight, but I will grin and bear it. One stop to LIH for $425 all-in? Priceless. :) |
