i thought it was 'hainanese chicken rice stand' at the maxwell food center...stall number 10...or is that the same thing? (we just watched the show as well.)

i was also interested in master soon's reflexology, which tony partook of whilst in singapore! anyone else wanna have their feet rubbed vigorously?! (i've had it done in china, so i'm aware of how vigorous 'vigorous' can be.)

he had the chili crab and shark's head at kopitian...wherever that is!

Kopitiam is all over the island - it's a local chain of foodcourts that incorporate various vendor stalls (with various types of cuisine - Chinese, Indian, Malay, etc.).

It's one of those quirky Singaporean inventions with which they tried to get people thinking of themselves as Singaporean, rather than Chinese, Malay, Indian or whatever. Even the word itself - "kopi" is Malay for coffee, "tiam" is Hokkien Chinese for "shop".

So, I am booked at the Robertson Quay Hotel at a rate of S$153.00 all in. From reviews this is not a great hotel, but it is available and only somewhat more than twice the cost of the transit hotel. Le Meridien is sold out.

I echo the sentiment that if you are arriving at 0600, just go to Friday's hotel and see if they will check you in.

I've stayed at this hotel before. It's a bare bones room, with a fairly good location. I prepaid, my room was small and ready. I was able to get a wifi signal from the street. No complaints, but it's nothing special.

reviving another old debate

Chilli vs. pepper crab?

I'm a pepper person myself.

seanthepilot Jan 10, 2008 7:49 am

Mmmmmmmmm

Pepper crab does it for me.

I'm better with chili than pepper, but prefer butter to either of the above! :D

If you are going to use this plan on making a reservation ahead of time. You also may want to consider simply heading downtown and checking your bag at the hotel and I don't think it would be tough to get checked in by 10 AM since most flights to Europe leave around midnight and all of them to the USA leave around 6:00 AM.

I will arrive on Friday at 6.55 am in the morning and as an IC RA I can use the early checkin at 8.00 am. If you don´t find a place to rest, you can PM me and we will find a solution.

I thought the issue was resolved in favor of Chili,

Definitely restaurant dependent. The chili flower crabs at Portview in KK were excellent when I was there in November. Still not the best sweet chili sauce in SE Asia, but the taste of the flower crabs themselves were almost as good as Sri Lankan that we eat in Singapore.

Looking forward to whatever we get.

It may be good to note that the new Terminal 3 in SIN also has a transit hotel www.airport-hotel.com.sg

Put me down as a "maybe". I'm either stuck working in KL, able to take a quick trip down to SIN, or transiting on my way back to the US. 66% chance.

Either restaurant sounds great!

Chili! I don't like pepper.

Have we decided on a restaurant? I'm happy with either.

Added to a list found back on page 13 depending on your settings. Looking forward to seeing both of you in SIN.

Also I prefer the chili crab but the pepper crab has a good taste of it's own.
