I'm very sorry to hear that Gene will not be with us this year. His knowledge of everything is very impressive and it was nice to absorb such information.
Since the time draws near I'll concur with opushome that's time to get a plan together. So 7pm on Friday at Le Meridien lobby/bar on Orchard Road sounds good to myself. Perhaps we can adjourn to some establishments along the way for the midnight meeting at La Pau Sat. Is anyone arriving into SIN after midnight on the 19th? It seems most people are arriving on the 18th. Opushome, what time would you be heading to Bintan if done on Saturday? After staying up till 3:00am on Friday the walking tour was nice because of the later start time. The Bintan day trip does sound very interesting. For Saturday dinner, the Geylang No Signboard Seafood and Jumbo-East Coast have been mentioned. I personally don't have a preference but perhaps a vote could be taken. Either way, one needs to be picked. I've taken the liberty of scouring the thread and adjusted szg's list adding inbound flight info that I found. Please do post any corrections. Hey in 3 weeks, I'll be in Singapore with fellow FT'ers and not at work. Do to kidney stone problems I am unable to attend the SIN Do. Those of you who have had them will know why my doctor does not want me to leave the country or travel on long flights until it is resolved.
Good luck!!

Can someone please volunteer to handle the Saturday night dinner coordination? Please post and I will leave the details of who to contact for reservations. It is not a lot of work.
Let me know if you'd like me to do the honors, I think that we can reach a pretty quick consensus and I know that we'll be fine. We'll miss you Gene - get well, and look forward to SIN 2009! Best, Dave |

Got an e-mail from Lori_Q, who is definite for attending and
whose plans include getting together with (all I think public events) bseller on the 19th, definitely including alcohol; infoworks on the 20th, maybe for an outing to Pulau Ubin; violist on the 21st, perhaps JB or similar in Malaysia. I am given to understand that these are open to refinement or suggestions by anyone. |

I first gave an estimate of the number of attendees with a padding factor. As the date became close I gave new estimates.
I see that both NoSignBoard and Jumbo East Coast have been mentioned. Jumbo was the venue for SIN DO #1 in 2003 so that would be an interesting return. Additionally, it works out rather well for a relatively smaller group - which it appears we have this year vs. the last several. As for NSB, the consensus was clear at last year's dinner that the Geylang location was far and away preferred to Esplanade location. Therefore, my questions to all of you are: 1) Attending or NOT?? For sure?? 2) Choice of venue: Geylang NSB or Jumbo East Coast?? 3) Alternate venue if you think it works?? Best, Dave |

I imagine that it makes sense at this juncture to get a roll call of those who are in for the dinner on Saturday nite AS WELL AS the venue!!

BTW, I arrive Thursday 0030, not Friday....extra day to spend with Hans' cousin who lives in SIN. |

I was not wildly thrilled with NSB Geyland two years ago.....soooo hot outside!
Perhaps it's fair to warn you that I'm guessing that Jumbo is OUTSIDE as well!! ;) Best, Dave |

While I think Jumbo would be a great idea, whilst simultaneously taking SIN DO back to its "roots".......
Perhaps it's fair to warn you that I'm guessing that Jumbo is OUTSIDE as well!! ;) Best, Dave That's ok....I'll dress accordingly....I really didn't like NSB Geylang very much. Hence my vote for Jumbo.... Of course I will "go with the flow"... |
Yes, I am in for all events including whatever we come up for on Sunday. Do have a 0600 flight to NRT on Monday.
I prefer Jumbo East Coast. I was there last January after my Borneo wanderings. Seated outside with a great view of the anchored ships. It poured, but they moved all of us inside under cover, so there is lots of indoor seating. Friday night at Le Meridien (yes). Are we doing Lau Pau Sat?? I may do an exploratory trip to check out Bintan on Friday. This is to determine the feasability of going there on Saturday. Also OK with Violist's and Lori Q's idea of a smaller Singaporean offshore visit. Note: KarenKay has not posted, but in PM stated she was trying to make this Do. |
This is my first attend to this DO and I am very confused about all the votings and locations.
It would be helpfull, if anybody can make a list, where I can see, at what time I have to be where. Thanks for this !! |
Count me as a vote for Jumbo East Coast - nothing like the chance for a little post-dinner stroll to round out any dining experience. :)

Clarification, None of us are from Singapore
Please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that none of us reside in Singapore. This makes this Do somewhat more difficult to plan as there is no one on the ground to do the work and check on things. This is all long distance. Last year, we did have a Singaporean, but he was not involved in the planning.
The looseness at this stage is due to the above. Everything will fall in place. Please do not have angst. Bitte, keinen Sorgen haben. It may seem strange but it works. |
