A van from the Le Meridien sounds good to me. ^

Just a quick fyi for violist and anyone else looking for gvdIAD that the snow in the Northeast will cause him to miss his SIN connection (most likely, he's still on the ground at IAD) ... look for him on Saturday

oooooh ... he wasn't even rebooked TMK so who knows how/when/what cos will be used  Long time in the back of the bus, esp if its not UA equipment as it might another airline altogether. Being wx related, I doubt they'd do much for him in terms of forcing an upgrade, changing cos, etc.

Friday night

I had a great late lunch with Zvezda yesterday and may or may not walk over to Le Meridien with him and another FTer tongiht....

Then again, I may just take a taxi from here (Hyatt) if it is raining.....all I have is a brelly and I know thats often not enough in the pm SIN storms....so I may be there close to 7pm......might as well have a glass of wine in the exec lounge here first......very nice Shiraz last night...yummmmm!

Saturday evening ~ Le Meridian ~ meet 6:30-7:00pm

Update on the Sat night taxi/van

Cost of a 44 person van is $120
as opposed to 6 seat mini vans for $45 each.

I'll book the bus and we'll just divide by how ever many people show up. This way we don't leave anyone behind.
Meet at Le Meridian, Orchard Road
Bus leaving 7:00-7:10 pm

My Singapore mobile number is (+65) 8169-7134

Will the bus be bringing us back from dinneer?

seanthepilot Jan 17, 2008 8:04 pm

For those taking the MRT subway, the Le Meridian Hotel is at Somerset (NS23). Exit B, cross Orchard, turn right and walk about 2 blocks.

Only if we book another trip @ $120.

As I remember, many people will make their way to the riverside, where Harry's on the Quay was always a gathering point. I'm assuming just as many may go their own ways after the feast. I wasn't sure that a return trip was the best idea.

What do you think?

Last time I and two other couples took a cab back from Geylang to the Ritz Carlton where we sipped a substantial amount of a fine Sauvignon Blanc....so you are probably right that people will head off on their own.....

See you @ 1930 tonight at the bar at Le Meridien, ok?

Seanthepilot,

I'm planning on leaving from the Le Meridien so you can count me in for either a bus or the vans.

violist Jan 18, 2008 12:25 am

The wireless at this hotel wasn't working, and neither is my
phone, so I spent today alone - ran errands, such as getting
extra pages in my passport, and ate at Bayang, which had
pretty nice food but was quite pricy (and with Tiger at
10.50++ for 11 ounces, I'm not offering to take anyone there).

See you all in a few hours at Meridien.

violist Jan 18, 2008 12:36 am

Oh, forgot to add, has anyone any idea how or if gvdIAD has
been reaccommodated?

Actually, the last 2 years we've been better accomodated at Southbank Thai restaurant a few doors down from Harry's. Their pitchers of Tiger were SUBSTANTIALLY cheaper and the help is always very nice to us!!

As for the van, I think I can speak for me and for Boris and his +1 - we're in . I'm pretty sure that 1900 hours for the bus will be fine!

I'm currently in the quiet room at HKG TG lounge (the former smooking room. If anyone wants to meet, I'll be here till 895 leaves for SIN!
See you tomorrow. BTW: My SIN mobile is 9374 8038

Made it to NRT (finally) at 7:59 pm. UA put me up in the Narita Excel Tokyu Hotel, which is where the FAs from UA 803 are also staying. Rebooked tomorrow -- in Y -- on JAL 719, departing NRT at 10:55 am arriving SIN at 5:35 pm. With better luck than I had today, I hope to be at the Le Meridien before 7:00 pm to catch a ride to NSB - Geylang. Hope to see you all there.

All times are GMT -6. The time now is 3:51 am.
