On another topic, any tips for what to do upon arrival in SIN at 6 AM :td: on Friday? I'll need some rest after the n/s from EWR. I was considering spending a few hours at the SIN transit hotel.

To stay in the transit hotel you are supposed to have an onward connection. You may need to produce some sort of documentation, like a printout made right before you purchase the flight.

I will be happy with either restaurant.

I'm up for everything from the Friday afternoon gathering at Le Meridian to the midnight safari Sunday evening.

I will be arriving from BKK on either Thursday or Friday, flight unknown, airline unknown. Yes, I do have a ticket.

I'll be staying at the Hilton.

Duly noted on the "dining" post in this thread.

Look forward to seeing you there!

I have stayed at the transit hotel quite frequently (and have six more stays booked) and this has not been my experience. It is indeed true that they ask about an onward connection but when I tell them I am heading into town after I check out, they have never had a problem with that.

Who is staying beyond Monday 21-Jan? Anyone else besides myself and infoworks? I leave Wed on the 4PM SQ departure to LAX.

There will be at least three other Flyertalkers flying out on Wednesday on UA. Our respective flights are at 6:50 AM and 7:20 AM. Why not show up at Changi "a little" earlier and say hi! :p

I have a favourite restaurant in Keong Saik Road Chinatown, which I'm happy to lead people to (they are closed Monday night). It's great food and cheap. Also close to the temples and markets in Chinatown area, which should be started on it's decoration for Chinese New Year.

Can be Saturday lunch or possibly Sunday dinner (I have a wedding to attend Sunday afternoon).

I made the jaunt to both NSB and East Coast Food Park yesterday, leaving from the Le Meridian.

We currently have reservations at both. I will arrive back to SIN on Thursday evening and can re-confirm one, cancel the other.

The taxi fare (Sunday night, no surcharge) from the hotel to NSB Geylang was S$8.20; from NSB Geylang to East Coast another S$8. Taxi fares have just gone up in Singapore. On Saturday night you can add both S$3 CBD (Comercial Business District) and peak 35% surchages.
Bringing the NSB taxi fare to about S$14 and I appx S$21 to East Coast Jumbo.

Jumbo has the water and a quieter area. Note that East Coast also has a NSB location too.

No Signboard, Geylang definitely has a more casual feel. In a busy neighbourhood, with lots of hustle and bustle around.

I forgot to check the NSB price of crab, but Jumbo was S$35/kilo

We've got a few days to decide. That's the update!

Dunno about now, but a couple years ago I did that for the noon to
Newark and after saying my hellos and goodbyes tried to check in at
SQ; and they politely refused to deal with me, so I had about three
hours to kill outside security. Of course, a 4 pm departure could mean
a side trip to Changi Village Hawker Center or somesuch place:

I always wanted to try this place

A site that makes me hungry every time I visit it

I did notice this weekend at the SQ Orchard rd. office that they now offer check-in up to 48 hours before your flight. Big improvement... if only more airlines would get on board.

karenkay Jan 14, 2008 8:57 pm

le meridien guests...

for anyone staying at the le meridien, it's worth noting that if you're paying for the stay and aren't a plat--or maybe even if you are--you can likely get a much better room for less money by using 1000 points to get an spg 50 off cert. (you don't have to have the cert, just the points. they'll book it for you if you call the 888 number.)

i'd read about them here, and discovered that i could get a club king (with free lounge access, internet and breakfast) instead of the el cheapo deluxe single for less money...the local cancellation window for people checking in friday is fast approaching, but thought it worth a mention.

(i discovered this because i wanted to use 4500 points to upgrade the room...and the hotel wouldn't allow it. terrific! now i've saved 3500 points and about $15 us a night. ^;) )

Isn't breakfast for 2??

Do all of us have to flip for the opportunity to be the one to visit with you over breakfast?

See you in SIN.
