I'm not very skilled at getting good hotel deals without using priceline which hasn't yielded anything as of yet. Right now the Fragrance Hotel on Selegie is still going for SGD109 a night.

Good luck and please post what you find.

Thanks for the help. Took you advice about the Fragrance for the 1 AM arrival. Got the Meridian cash and points for the next two days, so only have to make a decision about my last two days.

Hate to use up HH points but might be one way to do it. Either that, or just do a purchase at the Meridian. Is it a pretty decent hotel? I'm brand new to SPG but got Platinum status match. I assume I would earn Starpoints for the paid stay if that's what I end up doing.

At any rate, put me down a for sure and I'll see you all at the Bar at the Meridian if not before.

Thanks again. ^^

I live in SIN

This makes this Do somewhat more difficult to plan as there is no one on the ground to do the work and check on things. This is all long distance. Last year, we did have a Singaporean, but he was not involved in the planning.

The looseness at this stage is due to the above. Everything will fall in place. Please do not have angst. Bitte, keinen Sorgen haben. It may seem strange but it works.

OK guys .... I live here in SIN but being away so often kind of makes me a tourist too :-)

Anyway, I may/may not be around during the DO. Business travel plans not firmed up yet.

But I am more than happy to help out with making the arrangements ... I am new to this FT DO thingy but will try my best.

Alright, wrt NSB and Jumbo ...

(1) NSB at Esplanade ... good choice cos central location and its easy to get to even by MRT (metro/subway). And there is air-con too :D

(2) NSB at East Coast [other than the beach, there is nothing there], NSB at Kallang [I have not been there myself - maybe closed], NSB at Geylang [it's near the Red-Light District]. All these 3 locations are not easy to get to unless we drive or take a cab. I am not for them.

(3) NSB at Vivo City (new branch) .. not bad location and near a drinking hole/night club called St James Power Station [www.stjamespowerstation.com]. Also near Sentosa but I am not sure if you guys wanna go there after dinner.

(4) Jumbo Seafood at Riverside Point is probably the easiest to get to. Moreover it is near the Singapore River and there are loads of pubs along that stretch ie Clarke Quay and you can also walk to Boat Quay.

(5) Other Jumbo outlets too but location wise, I would not recommend those eg East Coast, Singapore Indoor Stadium etc.

As for sight-seeing stuff, I would recommend the Night Safari ... go about 9:30pm onwards as by then the tourists on buses would have left and the place isn't so crowded anymore. They close at midnight if I can recall correctly.

If you have any other questions, let me know and I'll try to help out as much as I can.

Happy New Year!!

OK, I'm in; prefer NSB Geylang by a hair but of course will go with
whatever people want. Jumbo Riverside always seemed a little sad to me.

It seems to be tightening up in the voting category:
I count it now as 6 for Jumbo EC, and 6 for Geylang. One of those Geylang votes is PM'd to me, so you won't be able to use the thread as follow up.

I appreciate everyone's suggestions as to other "venues" but at this point, I suspect we're going to hit either one of the listed choices. Simply not sufficient time to "think outside the bun", IMO.

Best, Dave

As I donīt know both location (Geylang NSB or Jumbo East Coast), I would vote for the location, which is easier to reach.

In previous years, we've met in at a hotel lobby and taken cabs or mini-vans to the dinner. Very easy as long as we book the cars/vans ahead of time.

It's been suggested this year to meet at the Le Meridian lobby.

(As for the night-safari, I'd love to do that Sunday evening.)

try
http://www.robertsonquayhotel.com.sg/ They currently have rooms at $SIN130 for each of those nights. I've stayed there before. Good location. They do sell out quickly, so if the rate looks good to you, book soon.

also
http://www.accorhotels-asia.com has rates from $SIN180/night

As I told you, just tell me when I have where to be ? :) How far is the IC from the Le Meridian lobby away ?

The answer to szg's question

http://www.streetdirectory.com/trave...d2=6446&keyid=

It probably is more like 10-15 minutes with walking. The hardest part will be finding the right direction from Doby Gaut station to the Le Meridien. Just as someone and they will point the right direction. Taxi also works quite well.

Thanks Sean! Booked Robertson Quay for Sun and Mon nights so I am now covered for whole stay albeit 3 different hotels.

By the way I met Sean at a mini-do in BKK last year! Looking forward to another meet!

^^

I am an RA as well, and can also offer same! Sounds like a mini bar party one night - food from parco bugis stalls, it's fun, tasty and cheap!

Maybe you can coordinate the 3 of us via PM. will help with transportation, etc organisation too.

I am also happy to be a Sunday tour guide, Sim Lim Square facilitator, etc.
