Done. |
Wow, I guess I need to peruse other forums more! I missed that we were having monthly get togethers until I saw the link in one of Techgirl's replies.
Unfortunately myself and Mrs. Dudleydog73 will be in South Padre / Mexico the week of Thanksgiving so I look forward to the next one to meet everyone! --DD73 |
One of these days I hope I'll be able to attend. I will be in the Bay area from the 18th for the Thanksgiving week.

Gang,
I went and found The Melting Pot this afternoon, and discussed our little event with the manager. Due to restaurant space issues, we will be forced to limit this event to 14 confirmed attendees. We currently have 12 confirmed, and 2 possibles. I would really really appreciate it if the possibles could give me a yea or nay sometime this week. :) I'll do a standby list if we run over. They are willing to write separate checks, but he prefers that we agree on the courses beforehand, due to the size of the group and the fact that most of us are going to be “individuals”. (That way the restaurant doesn't have to prepare a dozen completely different platters for our group.) I can see his viewpoint from a timing of the meal standpoint. I need some information from from all of you. You can do it on-thread or via PM. I've highlighted the stuff I need. I do need to let them know beforehand how many checks to write up, so will there be any other “couples” other than myself & my other half? (AKA-what's up with Kevin's +1 ;) ) Everyone please peruse this: http://www.meltingpot.com/LargePartyMenuSouthLake.pdf And let me know package you would be interested in by Sunday (Nov 12). Also, from a personal standpoint, I've found the broth-based cooking mediums to be better than oil, so let me know if you have a preference. A word about logistics. It it entirely possible that we will be split into two 7-person tables (which are next to each other in the same room). Perhaps if we get an even split on the choices, we could have 1 table dedicated to one package and another for a different one? The only real difference between the packages is the entree meats. We can have different cheeses or chocolates on each burner, as there are 2 burners per table. Is there anyone here with a shellfish allergy? My Other Half has one, and we are not sure if she would be affected by using the same cooking medium. (and I don't eat shellfish anyway...) Finally, is anyone not intending to do the Full Monty (all of the courses) for dinner? Muchas Gracias, moi |
Center cut here... fine with any cooking style and any cheese.
Broth is of course healthier... but fried is of course yummier. My tastebuds vote for fried - my arteries vote for broth. |
I haven't done fondue in probably close to 10 years, so I'll yield my choices to the more experienced in the group.
In any case, I'm certain that my arteries do not get to vote... |
The first or second options sound fine to me. I'm up for either cooking style, too. As for checks, it's just me on mine.
|
A pattern is starting to emerge already. :)
As for the checks, there is really only 1 individual I'm not sure about, so that was probably a dumb question... ;) |
Even after reading the menu, I have no idea. Probably best to go with the classic, but I can be easily swayed to upgrade to the Center cut if it better matches the other orders. Also, no idea on cooking style
It is not that I don't care, I've just never done fondue, so I have no basis for an intelligent decision. One check for me |
Running Tally
Center Cut - 2
Classic - 2 Classic or CC - 2 No Pref - 2 I'm going to wait and see before I cast my 2 votes... :) |
It looks like my +1 will not be able to attend as hoped. I'd prefer broth, but I don't have specific preferences for anything else, not being a terribly experienced consumer of fondue.
|
So it would appear a safe bet would be perhaps 4 Center Cut and the rest Classic...
|
I should hopefully be able to confirm today whether I will be needed in NY next Tuesday or whether I'll be able to fondue with the gang. I hope so... I'd hate to be a fon-don't.
