Well it looks like I'll be making the New York gathering next Tuesday, not the DFW one. I'm sad to miss the fondue... be sure and dip something for me!

Based upon the tally, I'm pre-ordering 3 Center Cuts (myself+1; studley) and I'll make the rest Classic. We'll do a couple different cheeses (Swiss & Cheddar, unless I hear otherwise), basic chocolate for dessert (or since that is the last course, I'll tell them we'll figure it out over cheese). I personally was planning on skipping the salad, I'll tell them half Chef, half Cali, unless we have a whole bunch of mushroom lovers here. (I like mushrooms, but I'm not to fond of their mushroom salad.) I'll get the bouillon for cooking.

Location Information:

The restaurant is set back from the street (Southlake Blvd), with a small white sign low to the ground the only street-level indication of where it is.
It is across the street from the entrance to Gateway Plaza (Big sign, can't miss it).
Coming from the East, the restaurant is on the Left, and the next cross street after the restuarant is Nolen (If you hit Nolen, time to turn around).
Coming from the West, the restaurant is on the Right, after Nolen. If you hit 114, you've gone too far.

Not sure if I can make this but I've come across this thread before and this sounds like fun. My wife & I are transplants from Chicago (been in DFW about 3 years) so it's always nice to meet new people. For people who have been before can you give any advice on...

- Both being 25, would we be the really young ones of the group or is it a good mix of ages?

- I travel quite a bit but she doesn't...will she be bored? I'm guessing there's plenty of conversation about different stuff but want to make sure.

Finally, I know I'm coming in at the last minute and just saw it said there's a max of 14 and it looks like there's 10-12 right now...would we still be able to join? If it's a problem we can wait for the next one.

Thanks!

Welcome jw713...

I think you would find the DFW group spans a wide variety of travel patterns and ages. We've got folks who are just out of college and those who are veterans in their careers (and everything in between). I'd say the average age of the regular crowd is early/mid 30s but we span three decades easily.

I actually can't recall the last time we DIDN'T talk about a wide range of things that aren't related to travel. Our individual habits vary - they range from "practically lives on airplanes" to "like to get miles when going on vacation" to "married to someone who does this FT thing and tolerate his/her habits" - and everything in between.

As far as Wednesday, in just eye......g the list I'd say its pretty safe that all the "regulars" have been accounted for (and if they haven't, their loss)... let empedocles know you will be coming. :) (And I'm sorry that I won't be there to meet you guys... but I'll be doing a biz trip with another of the DFW regulars.)

Average age probably tends toward 34 or so. There's a good mix, though. The more the merrier. :)

If all we talked about was travel & FFP's, this probably wouldn't have lasted more than 1 evening. ;)

You can have the last two slots. I'll put you on the maybe list and shoot you a PM and/or email.

Finally, a test:

ball, balls, ......, ......g :D

Regretfully, please move me to a 'maybe' on this...and empedocles, if you get stuck with any costs due to me not coming please let me know and I wll cover it. sorry for the late notice, but things are uber-hectic with being out of town, my upcoming vacation days from work, and my upcoming temp assignment in Raleigh...so much to do and not much time to do it.

someone please eat chocoate covered bananas in the dessert fondue for me, please!

I'm only 24...so you won't be alone on the lower end of the age range.

And I am 28, but I wouldnt call myself a regular attendee, although I need to be... these gatherings are fun!!

I sent a PM to empedocles but haven't heard back yet. I just checked this thread because I'm working back in the DFW area after moving about a year and a half ago. I would love to do this if there is still a spot. (Looks like there might be.) Put me down for the Center Cut. Hope to see everybody Tuesday night!

Mark

One of these days, I'm actually going to be able to make one of these get togethers. :)

My wife and I both really like the Melting Pot. It is a great restaurant. Also, if you haven't visited the Melting Pot website, you should. They have a "Club Fondue". They will send you a free Chocolate Fondue on sign-up, and another one on your birthday. I have eaten with a large group before and brought the coupon (only one per table though.) This will at least get you a little extra chocolate for your dessert. There is usually not enough for everyone, so a little extra helps. :)

Enjoy the night, wish I could be there.

studley Nov 20, 2006 7:11 pm

I'll see y'all tomorrow. I could be the last one there, due to a scheduled long day at the office.

techgirl Nov 20, 2006 7:51 pm

You guys have fun! I hope I'm able to make December!

dcstudent Nov 20, 2006 9:17 pm

I'm excited! I get out of class in Norman at 3:20 and will hit the road shortly thereafter. I hope 3.5 hours is enough to get to Southlake! (And I hope Mapquest gave me decent directions!) See you guys tomorrow.
