MAN Flyer Dec 17, 2004 10:01 am

Can I be put down as a 'likely' :) . In the process of finalising some plans and should know for certain next week.

As someone who doesn't actually eat Crab (or any seafood for that matter  ), will I have to sit in a corner on my own, or can I just stick to the Tiger ? :D .

estnet Dec 17, 2004 1:07 pm

ManFlyer.....not to worry we will find some (delicious) non seafood for you :)

It would be my first FT event and I'd love to attend. It's just TBC whether I'll be in SIN that weekend... Should know within a couple of weeks.

Thanks!

Now how do we know who is who at the DO?
Seems like quite a turnout. :)

Check the official SIN-DO website:

For those who are flying out of SFO on the 13th, any plans on meeting up at SFO RCC?

I learnt about the turnout from the official site.
What I wonder is -for example- how do I know which one is mr. ws8n? ;)

If you're meeting up at an RCC, you usually can look for the bright yellow FT luggage tags; if its at the dinner, you introduce yourself just like you would at any party with a bunch of strangers (this is a big crowd, finding the group won't be an issue). The difference with FT is you're meeting new people and you spend a lot of time trying to match names to handles to posts :)

I'll be there with a yellow FT tag on my luggage :) -- for about 90 minutes before flight time

I believe we're meeting at Conrad lobby this year (correct me if I'm wrong mjm), so if u see a big group gathering there, it's most likely our group.
Hmm...maybe i should wear SQ's pj to the DO... :D

For SFO RCC'ers, looks like we'll be armed with plenty of drink coupons to keep them busy... ;)

Is this a deal? Now which color should I wear... blue, purple, or beige...? :D ;)

techgirl Dec 18, 2004 12:33 pm

I still haven't nailed down a flight yet... so this is looking slightly less probable for me. It looks like the best I can do right now is flying out on Friday arriving Saturday at midnight and that kind of limits me.

Gave most of mine away, only have purple and blue left... I went to the restaurant last year, and if my memory serves me correct, there's no air-conditioning, and it can get quite warm. I think I'll wear something that I won't sweat too much with the chilli crabs and all... :D

StarG, I'm sure we will have a chance to meet up...who knows, we might have been on the same plane before...

Don't worry, I don't love the sleep suit enough to wear it around town or to the restaurant. :D
I am still deciding between SQ and CX to go to this SIN DO, as I want to visit HKG before SIN.

Talking of sleep suits - if anyone has any extras I am trying to get two :)

Looked around for Conrad hotel rates online and could only find SGD280++ for Conrad. Ritz Carlton's SQ PPS special rate is SGD255++. Looking at the pictures on Conrad's website, I am guessing the Ritz (stayed there before) has a better product. Am I wrong?

Hi StarG

I'd personally definitely select the Ritz over the Conrad.

mauld Dec 21, 2004 11:22 am

I'm at the Ritz, and if I remember correctly, it is fairly close to the Conrad. Both are in that newish development with the large shopping center. I plan to just walk over and meet up with the other FT'ers for Sat's dinner. Anyone wanting to meet up with me at the RC for a drink in the RC Club, before heading over to the Conrad, just let me know. :D

Ritz is much nicer, and a big plus if you can get club upgrade.
But I thought the SQ PPS rate is valid till Dec 31st, 2004?

I'll do my best. I may be wrong but I don't think there is M pj's on SQ (BA yes), only XL, L and S. But I have not asked them for M.
Amenity kits for ladies or for gentleman?

The last time I stayed there with the PPS rate, I was upgraded to Marina Bay View courtesy of my Amex. RC normally required 3 nite-stay minimum with the PPS rate for the upgrade.

As for the rate, the old one was SGD250 IIRC. I got the new SGD255 from the latest Priority magazine (1Q 2005).

StarG Dec 23, 2004 5:32 am

Sorry you couldn't make it, Guy Betsy.
I was looking forward to finally see you since we didn't get the chance to chat on SQ20 inaugural.

Meanwhile, here is my tentative itinerary:

I will arrive on SQ857 1030-1415 HKG-SIN 15JAN2005
And depart on SQ156 1000-1035 SIN-CGK 16JAN2005
Hotel: Ritz-Carlton Millenia

mjm, thanks to mark me as confirmed.
If there's no major change to my schedules, I will be there.

Should you want to do some further research...

For those interested in a bit of nostalgia about Singapore, you might want to check out your video shop over the holidays for a 1979 feature called SAINT JACK. It stars Ben Gazarra as an American ex-pat who runs a bordello in the city, first on his own, then for the US military [it's Viet Nam time]. However, the charm of this film is that it was shot on location around the former British Colony and you can get a look at the city that used to be. There was only one skyscraper office tower at the time on the banks of the Singapore River and the Fullerton Building was still the central Post Office not a luxury hotel. The major luxury hotels of the day were clustered at the north end of Orchard Road [the Hilton, the Shangri-la], and across the road from Raffles were rows of chop houses, not highrises. Lots of location exteriors, and anyone familiar enough with the city can pretty much identify streets and older remaining buildings even after 25-years. British character actor Denholm Elliott costars, along with a young Peter Bogdonovich, in one of his occasional appearances on the other side of the camera.

Made me want to join you all next month, but must be down in South Africa on my own film shoot. Enjoy.

Have just completed updating the webpage and believe I have inclluded all the details posted since the last update.

Have a look and if I have left anything or anyone off, drop me a note or post to this thread and I shall see to it straight away.

We have a terrific group again this year and I am looking forward to seeing all of you soon.

Sorry to note that transpac will not be able to make it this year, but on the bright side we have a large number of recent members to FT as well as several FT spouses joining us.

So, finally let me wish you all a very Merry Christmas tomorrow!

Mike
