Hi,
My name is Renee. I am ashamed to admit that I haven't used any FF miles since 2005. I let the ones that I had expire because I lost interest in the program. I'm back now and ready to get serious about this because this is the cornerstone of traveling on a budget.

I want to learn as much as I can about the programs, because I am planning a trip to China late next year and want to earn as much as I can. I belong to at least one airline FF program in each of the three alliances. I want to maximize my earnings and if I can do that without having to spend much money, so much the better! :D I look forward to learning from you experts, making new friends and making the most out of this wonderful opportunity to earn free miles!

Hi jaina, and welcome to FT!

There is actually a FlyerTalk forum dedicated to India travel, where the regular posters have much more direct expertise to answer your question. Take a look at the threads there (also try the "Search" function for "vaishno devi"), and if you can't find an existing thread on your question, please don't hesitate to start one yourself. Good luck!

Hey guys, I really have no excuse for not joining FlyerTalk before now. I'm a huge fan of flying and commercial aviation in general, my father have been a pilot for as long as I can remember. Up until now, all of my flying has been around the CONUS, generally on United, Delta, or Frontier. But this summer I'm very happy to be traveling to London, Cairo, and Beirut aboard British Airways, MEA, and Egyptair. I'm a modern Middle East history student, so I'm looking forward to being able to travel for study quite a bit over the next couple of years :)

Maeby Feb 13, 2011 2:58 am

Well, might as well introduce myself now, after a solid year's worth of lurking and a couple months of sporadic posting. I'm a writer based in NYC, grew up in the DFW area. I fly JFK-LAX for work purposes 10-20 times a year - not quite a road warrior in the purest sense, but enough that I consider myself a fairly seasoned traveler.

marten.broadcloak Feb 14, 2011 2:05 am

Hola!

Short time lurker here, but have gleaned so much from the many topics I've read so far.

I've flown most places within CONUS, and am looking to "expand my horizons", so to speak, with jumps to Scotland (beer + golf), Germany (beer) and Japan (beer.....I mean sake...) in the upcoming year.

Pleasure to be aboard.

Name is Derek. Live in suburban Houston with wife of 13 yrs. and my 2 children a son 12 and a daughter 8. 36 years old. Work as a fire captain and have the opportunity to fly about 6-7 times a year although I wish it could be more. Use IAH primarily but HOU as well. CO one pass member. Love aviation and traveling in general. this is a great web site and I enjoy reading all the threads. Currently have traveled to 33 states and 4 foreign countries. Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica and Ireland. Hope to expand that as time/money allow. Hope everyone has a great day!

Hi, I'm new here and discovered the site while looking at rental car companies while under 25. Only recently did I decide to get back into flying. Typically I've driven any place that I've visited on my own, for example, it took me 30 hrs to drive to New York in january. I got lucky though as I had my AWD to get me out and didn't have to worry about the airports at that time.

I found that flying and renting a car is much cheaper than driving. I don't travel that much as I'm a college student, 2-3 times per year approx. My father worked for Delta for 38 years so as a kid I flew on them a lot. For all my school trips back in high school I flew AA though. I'm trying to rediscover the world, as it just isn't the same when you're a kid and can't comprehend everything.

Ontario Feb 22, 2011 7:22 pm

Hi,

I am relatively new to the site and thought it's about time to introduce myself. Until a bit more than a year ago, I lived and worked in Europe - which gave me plenty of opportunity to travel, mostly privately. Have been on all continents except Africa and been mainly travelling with *A. A silver member there, looking into changing into one of the North-American programs of *A and to become a Gold Member this year.

Since having moved to Canada, have less vacation, so am doing more regional travel, week-end trips to US cities, and of course 1-2 trips to Europe per year.

Looking forward to learn more about the North American programs and hopefully also help out others with a recommendation here or there.

It's nice to see someone else with disabilities on the forum!

Anyway, my name is Zach, and I am a young adult with high-functioning autism (similar to Aspergers). At this point in life, I'm a leisure traveler, having flown since I was 6 weeks old from IAH-CLE. I've flown many places with my family in the CONUS plus Hawaii. Outside the USA, I've been to Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, the UK, and France. I also know a former United Airlines executive through a community support program locally. I also know some people in the Delta family, so yes, I love to fly and it shows.

My current city is Fort Wayne, Indiana, and my home airport is FWA. (I cringe when someone here flies from IND to save $100 on their ticket, yet are happy to pay for 250 miles of gas and $129 for a hotel room near IND.) Before FWA, my home airports were ORD/MDW when I lived in Chicagoland. I'm a member of both AAdvantage and Delta SkyMiles, but don't have quite enough miles yet for a round-trip on either airline. I came here to learn about earning as many miles as I can and chat about my airline and travel experiences in general.

KelseyR Feb 27, 2011 12:17 am

Just realized I never posted in here! I'm Kelsey, currently living in SAT. Childhood in DFW, college in OKC and working at MCO for a bit. I work for WN, in customer support (so, must advise, all thoughts posted here are completely mine alone and do not represent Southwest Airlines at all) and definitely taking advantage of the travel benefits. Have only been there for about 16 months and have taken tons of trips for fun and to visit friends and see the country. Currently stockpiling AA miles for a RTW trip in a few years...

I was a lurker for awhile before registering and it's really great to see all the great deals and trip reports that people post. Really trying to be more involved!

gimmeyourmiles Mar 2, 2011 9:53 am

Hi all! I'm interested in getting your miles! j/k! I want to learn from everyone, share my experiences, and gather frequent flyer miles. I will churn credit cards, eat pretzels, and buy a few coins to do this.

Who we all are

Hi,

I've been a lurker on this site for some time and have just returned to it after getting home after close to four months overseas.
I have been retired for just on twelve years. and until around eighteen months ago, I had looked after my mother who had dementia for five years at home.
After she passed away, I resumed my travels and have travelled extensively since then mainly by ship.
I have, however, done my share of flying and a particular highlight for me last November was to travel to New York First Class(on points) via Qantas A380 to Heathrow and then on to Newark by BA777.
The Tasting Menu with wines between Melbourne and Singapore would rank as one of the most memorable meals I have ever had on land, sea or in the sky.
It was so good that I have booked that leg again this coming November and this time I will be able to take full advantage of not only it but the before flight in the Lounge in Melbourne as I will only be doing that leg and then staying at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore before boarding a cruise back to Sydney. I will then fly back to Melbourne with Qantas and appreciate again their relatively new domestic Business Class which I enjoyed for the first time last week.
Thank you all for a very informative forum.
Wayne Keys (wynkys).

Hi

I just want to thank everyone for all of the incredible information that is posted on these message boards. I don't travel with my current job but have been using the info on these boards to help plan our next Disney vacation (me, wife, 3 kids) and will continue to use it for future vacations. I belong to a few of the hotel programs (Priority Club, HHonors, goldpointplus, and more I think) and have already managed to snag some extra Priority Club points by doing surveys and submitting codes and I've requested Silver Elite status on the goldpointsplus using the promotion that was cited on one of the boards. I may not post much but I am thankful for all of the great info that I have already received and will continue to receive. Thanks!

Just joined and wanted to say hello to everyone and introduce myself.

As my handle suggests my name is Gordon and I live in the UK.

I'm a platinum member of Priority Club, mainly earned through business stays, and last week managed to retain my platinum status till the end of next year.

I've already found some very useful tips on this site and look forward to learning more from the seasoned travellers on here.

Happy flighting :)

Hello everyone!

I'm a newbie to Flyer Talk, but already impressed by the wealth of knowledge and advice you all have!

I used to travel a lot a until a couple of years ago and reached the dizzy heights of BAEC Gold once or twice. Now sadly only a Blue, but starting to get the bug again!

I am based in the UK and would appreciate any suggestions for the best use of my Amex 241 voucher! I have just over 300K miles available and fancy Oz or the Far East, but open to suggestions!

Getting excited now about booking a trip again!!:D

Sorry for the repost, but things have changed a bunch with me since post #51 on this thread (page 4, Jan 1999).

In 2001 I moved to Salt Lake City and kept doing the consulting (switched to DL) and then moved back to the SF Bay Area for two years.

I left consulting in 2003 to go to business school in Berkeley. I did a summer job in Brussels in 2004 (with DHL) and then went off to Barcelona for an exchange semester. I returned to Berkeley and then moved back to Salt Lake City where I worked for a small pharmaceutical company for 5 years. I jumped ship in January to work for a division of a multi-national medical device manufacturer in marketing research.

I still play volleyball a couple of times a week.

The greatest tragedy in my life was when my boyfriend flew more miles than I did and got his own CRC membership. I might yet beat him this year.

I love working for Cotton Producers Association as a middle manager.

I have three brothers and 4 sisters.

I fly frequently for business to Boston and Tampa and my father's name is Delbert.

Consultant at Deloitte. Managed to maintain UA 1P with leisure travel for past few years, as Deloitte won't let us fly UA. :)

I am Katie, live just outside of Boise. I grew up not far from MCI. I graduated with a mech engineering degree from KSU and have been working as an engineer since. I do not do much travel with work, but LOVE to travel and explore in my free time.

I wish I would have found FT about 10 years ago, not last year! I am totally hooked and so far have been able to book one pretty awesome trip for the hubby and me this summer.

Introducing myself - Looking for a glossary

Hi all, I'm Alex from DC and I am stoked about getting to know the FT community. The one thing I think I am missing though is some sort of glossary so that I can really get into the threads here. Is there a sticky post somewhere that lists commonly-used abbreviations/technical terms?

Thanks!

Hey Alex,

I'm new to the board too and was struggling to decipher all of the abbreviations and acronyms used on the forum.
The glossary is here: http://www.flyertalk.com/glossary/

Another newbie enters the ranks...

Greetings FlyerTalk folks!

My name is Mike, and I've known about FlyerTalk for a while--but I'm not exactly sure how I've known about it. My guess is late-night Google searching for who-knows-what, but that would only be a guess.

I've had a mild interest in points, miles, etc. since my modest career stint as an IT/management consultant, but I recently decided that I need to "up the ante" in my pursuit of awards, as they constitute a very real form of attainable wealth. My decision has come on the heels of a new friendship initiated while travelling in Thailand; I am now proud to call venerable FlyerTalk stalwart "PatMike" a friend of mine.

I look forward to participating in the FlyerTalk community and hope to learn, grow, share, and teach with other like-minded people--and hopefully, make a few more friends along the way!

Hi,
I just found you all yesterday on a Google search trying to figure out when I can reapply for Citibank AA mileage cards again. I just closed a personal and biz acct the other day. Didn't find a consensus ;), but did find lots of other great info. (Hopeful there Capitol One Venture 100K pts left) Thanks!

I live in a coastal Connecticut town and have 5 grown kids, none of whom live near home. So, we use lots of miles and points going to visit them, especially when they've done their semesters abroad. Our youngest goes to Japan for her year abroad next year. We are trying to get as many miles and points as possible. She needs two round trip airfares (she'll come home for Christmas). And hubby and I plan to visit in the spring. We'd like to go business class since it is a 14-hour flight.

Our primary plans are Thank You points and AA miles. We play just about any program that gets us a big bang for our efforts though.

Hubby and I own a small national company and work from home.

Glad to become a member of this community!
