Profession: US Military Birth Date: 25 Dec Location: Germany Favorite Air Carrier: BA, American Comments: Been around here for over a year and just found this sticky. Thanks to all who make this such a great place to learn the ropes on maximizing my travel experience! Until 2 years ago I flew about 15K miles a year. Found FT when I realized I would be flying a bunch in 2009. Wound up flying 135K miles, much more than I thought I would. The things I learned here has made it a pleasurable experience! |

Hi Flyer Talk Forums
I'm Patrick and I'm an American expat working and living in Cairo, Egypt. My family and I have lived overseas for the past 6 years. We travel to the United States almost every summer to visit family during our summer vacation (2 months) and we travel extensively through the Middle East, SW Asia, and Europe often. We have flown Etihad, American, British Airways, Delta, Lufthansa, Air France and some other low-cost US domestic carriers. We're about to try KLM this summer for the first time, and would love your input on inflight services and AMS transfers. We have a 2 year old, so traveling with a toddler can be challenging. Your advise on that topic is also welcome! |
Welcome Patrick. Check out the KLM forum here http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/klm-flying-dutchman-493/
Transiting AMS to Shengen flights at certain times of the day can have very long lines. However if you are going from the Egypt to America and not entering European Shengen countries, you should be OK. Hopefully you will be in business class and have the extra space for your young one. |

I'm an AT born half TR enjoying FT for college work and part time profession in the aviation industry - My interests include long-haul travel, photogaphy, media
Browsing thru the forums interlinks both college and work related stuff - and actually makes me wanna become a FF & "just another" mileage runner some day... ^ |
Hello everyone,
I am Joe from Dallas. I live not too far away from Love Field and have lived around the area my whole life. I am an aviation enthusiast, pilot and avid traveler (though this college thing and minimum wage job are inhibiting the latter). I love looking up into the sky and seeing an airplane, but I still get a great kick out of seeing an AA silver bullet racing across the sky. I have always enjoyed flying on AA and enjoy their product. As you can see by my name, I am a huge MD-80 fan and always enjoy the opportunity to fly on them. Flying on an MD-80 takes me back to my childhood, let alone the symphony of sound that the twin JT8D's make, so I am usually the idiot around seats 23A-27A with a huge smile on my face! I have heard about FT for a long time, so I guess that places me more over on the lurker side of things. That's about all! |
Who is noneemac?
Name: Aaron
Profession: Marketing Communications Editor Birthday: September 24 Home City: Los Angeles, CA Birth City: Syracuse, NY In February 2009, I learned that my grandfather was days away from dying and could I come up to see him one more time in upstate Michigan. Finding no affordable fares to TVC (and with bereavement fares on UA and AA in the $700 range), I decided to burn 50K miles for a RT coach ticket LAX-ORD, from which I had to rent a car and drive nine hours. At the time, I had 81K miles in my 15-year-old AAdvantage account. To see years of occasional flying on AA just drain away like *that* for a crappy RT ticket that should have cost $200 just made me feel ... like I'd had my passport and cash stolen from my hotel room in Bangalore. Just burned me up inside. That's when I decided to scour the Web for ways to earn miles at a quicker clip. And that's how I found FT. And once I found a thread discussing someone's three-day 10-segment long-haul MR, I was hooked. THIS, I said, is for ME! A month later, AA ran the first of its two 2xEQM promotions, and in August I attended Viajero Joven's PHX MR seminar, where I met 60-odd other odd souls who claimed to be as passionate (er, hooked) as I thought I was. And so I just ramped up from there, committing myself not only to being Exec Platinum for as long as I could swing it, but also to becoming a more well-rounded and -seasoned traveler. I'm looking forward to meeting more of you at the Chicago DO in October. Cheers, Aaron EDIT: I think the OP wanted us to mention hobbies, so ... I travel to find great and interesting food and wine. Architecture would next, followed by museums and "walkability." I love walkable cities. I find it alternately amusing and frustrating that concierges, travel guides, and people on the street tell you that something more than 10 minutes away is too far to walk. |

I am a student looking for a job that lets me travel
Update 2016 It's now been more than 5 years since I posted this. Don't know if updates are a thing in this thread but if anyone is interested here is what happened since. When I joined in 2009 I spent months lurking the forums and learning everything I could from the flyertalk veterans. As I was a student at the time I had limited funds, but thanks to flyertalk I was able to gain enough points to take my girlfriend to a few trips and stay at some hotels that we never could have dreamed of affording to go to at the time. After that I visited flyertalk every few months, I seldom post but would try to keep up to date with my favorite airline and hotel programs and also research trip advice before summer vacations. As I wrote in my original post I wanted a job that would let me travel. It's funny, because travelling helped me find the job I have today. During one of my trips I tasted noodles made from beans and they were delicious and turned out to be healthy in all the right ways (gluten free, organic). I brought this back home and friends and family loved it so I packaged it, and luckily enough it became popular. The brand is called Gafell if anyone is interested. These days I do get to travel quite a bit and absolutely love it. I have not contributed much to this site, I don't know nearly enough about any of the programs to be of much use, but want to say thanks to all the great posters in this community. |
The name is Matt. Long time reader, first time poster. I just moved to Savannah, GA for a job, no traveling for the job, but the girlfriend in Oklahoma makes the travel necessary. Im one trip away from Delta Silver Medallion, all that in less than two months, just for a long distance relationship. Any reason to travel is a good reason!

Hi,
I'm Bob from Asheville, NC. Found FT less than two months ago, but I've already found it very helpful and useful. I appreciate that so many people are sharing their knowledge and experiences and helpful hints with each other. I don't fly too often, but I appreciate that my next trips will likely be free because of FF miles I'm now accumulating. And already I've been able to offer help to two friends who have ill family members far away and may need to fly in an emergency. |
Hey everyone,
Tony from Florida. I'm a passionate traveler currently studying aerospace engineering. This summer I'll be interning at a wonderful airline in NY (B6). This site has been an amazing source for everything travel related and I'm glad I joined the wonderful family here at Flyertalk. |

I've been reading the forum for a few years now, registered a few months ago and finally posted today (discount code for hotels). Tips from the forum made me save money on tickets and hotels and get extra miles (so achieved Frequent Traveller status on Miles&More). Thanks to everyone.^^
Best wishes from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. :D |
Just Retired
I’ve been lurking in the FT background for quite a while now soaking up as much as I could about MRs. My home airport is IAD and my job has taken me from IAD to LAX/SFO enough times to reach P1 status each year. I have 500K butt-in-seat miles and 300K bonus miles. Now that I’m retired, I would like to maintain or improve my P1 status using MRs, but the opportunities from IAD on UA seem to be very limited. Mrs TJ and I like to take short trips to LAS and routing them via SFO-LAX-LAS gets the mileage up, but I can’t get the cpm below .05. I monitor Farecompare, Kayak, Travelocity, etc, and play around with various segments on ITA, but I’m never able to route anything down to the .035 cmp that you guys seem to get.
Looking forward to breaking the code. |
Hello
I just thought I'd say hi. This is my first post, I was at the doctor the other day and picked up a travel magazine and there some of you all where (pictured). Talked about this website and got me interested. I recently started traveling and now I'm hooked. I'm 28 now other than family vacation never went anywhere by myself that I would classify as a real vacation. Last September I went on a Carnival Cruise with my girlfriends then in March went on a Royal Carribean cruise with my brother. Both in the Caribbean stopped in Roatan, Cozumel, Costa Maya, Grand Caymans, and Belize City. I had my taste of cruising which is fun. I just want to see the world now anyway possible, mostly tropical places though. :D Eastern Oregon (couple hrs from Boise) isn't cutting it during the winter months. I will be searching on here for some credit cards that I can earn points with, never had one that earned me points.... so I might have some dumb questions. :)

Greetings from London
Hello everyone at Flytalk,
I stumbled across this website via google and I found it to be really informative. I don't travel as much as I would like to (if you can imagine living and working in the UK) my job and passion allows me access to several travel-related networks. I would really like to help as much as I can to friends from other parts of the world, whether you are visiting or passing through the UK. Feel free to drop me any queries you might have and I will do my best to help get the information however possible. Safe travels and cheers to all... :) |
Hello from STL
Hello FT Community!
I have been a frequent business traveler for many years, but I'm new to the world of travel benefits (my old company kept employees' miles and points). I've been lurking in the background on FT for quite some time and thought it was time to join and contribute to the community. It has been a great experience so far-- learning lots of new things and re-learning lots of things I thought I once knew! A little about myself -- my name is Justin and I work with many breweries around the world for a food ingredient company based in Holland. I am based in STL and travel a lot domestically, with 3-4 trips per year to both South America and Europe. Since AA abandoned STL, I status-matched on UA last year and have been very happy with *A benefits. I'm looking forward to making 1K by year end. Cheers, Justin |
Welcome to Flyertalk Beer Me!. I must say I'm quite jealous of your profession AND your handle!

My name is Steven, a second year law student (hence the handle). I only get the chance to travel a couple of times a year, due to budget/time constraints and so trying to maximise loyalty points collection. After all, “Points make prizes”. |
