I am a student at Wichita State University.
My favorite activities: snorkeling, riding horses, people watching, photography, writing, reading, cooking, and visiting historical sites. Places I want to visit (in no particular order): Puerto Rico, Italy, Ireland, UK, France, Spain, Greece, Czech Republic, Costa Ricad, Panama, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Australia, India.... I have been to Playa del Carmen (south of Cancun) and Belize, and I loved them both. I recently joined the AA and UA programs. I want to travel to Pheonix more often to visit family, and that is one long drive! I also anticipate traveling more with my son. My mom recommended FT, and it looks like a great place to learn about traveling. |
Former Lurker, now a Member
Hi! After being a lurker for many years, I finally joined FT after reading all the kind members who jumped in to give tips and advice to a member who is stranded in ZRH right now. You are the kind of people I respect and hope to hang out with.
I am Vikidom, a recent retiree living near SFO. Yes, I can see the airport from my living room window. My wanderlust have taken me to all 7 continents. I also volunteer once a week at the USO located in the airport. My next travels will be to India and the Philippines and now on the early stages of planning for the 2010 travels. |
Welcome
To all of our new members:
WELCOME. |

Welcome to FT!
As you spend more time here, you'll see that FT is organized into focused forum areas. That's the only way to keep an online community with about 200,000 members and millions of posts from degenerating into total chaos. The CommunityBuzz area in FT has a specific thread for people to introduce themselves to us. I'm going to see if a moderator can move this to that area, and perhaps merge it with that thread. Enjoy your stay here, Melina! |
As if by magic, a moderator appears :)
Welcome to FTmelinacorbett I'm going to move your post into the new member's thread. I hope you enjoy your time here, learning and sharing much Jenbel Co-moderator, Communitybuzz! |

New guy
My wife and I are retired and love to travel. We are scheduled to fly ATL-SYD Jan/Feb. ATL-LAX w/ DL and LAX/SYD w/ VA -VA using PE.
Anyone offer thoughts on the VA PE? |
Welcome to FT :)
As the moderator of the Virgin Atlantic Flying Club as well as this forum, I know you have to be pretty careful when abbreviating down the Virgin airlines as we have Virgin Atlantic (VA), Virgin America (VA) and Virgin Australia (VA). It's a bit of a relief that the other one is Virgin Blue :D And further confused by the IATA codes being (respectively) VS/VX/VA... can you tell this is a real bugbear of mine yet? :D Since we're talking LAX-SYD, I'm presuming you do actually mean VA properly (:-: ) and are not going the long way round on VS... in which case, seek out our 'Other Australian' forum http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/other...-programs-470/ as there may be some information on there. With it being still a relatively new airline... there might not be too much yet - in which case, we'd love to hear your views once you've flown it :) |
It has been a long time since I stopped traveling. Is Premex, Techgirl, and others of that era still around?

the last few events we went to were over at the yard house in long beach, the brazian steakhouse in sandiego and we hosted chamberlains steak house in dallas and the cask 'n' cleaver in cucamonga ca. premex lived very close to us in san dimas and i used to trade upgrade coupons with him and a few others.
since all of that we have still kept our software dev biz but we have also opened up a promotional product/screen print/embroidery biz. most of that stuff is controlled by software any more so it is a natural for us. i am interested in some get-togethers so i will keep an eye out around here if anything pops up that we can come to. ^ |

Self-introduction
I predict this thread will plummet to the "least-discussed" page, but I kind of thought there'd already be one for new people. Didn't see it, so apologies in advance if it exists.
For starters, I don't want anyone to get started because of my ID. I have exactly ONE flight on AF. I was expecting some kind of surly behavior due to the mythical French stereotype. I was really shocked at how well everything was done. And those air hostesses, my GOD! Everyone of them looked like a slumming Paris model!!!! I was in a hormonal buzz all the way from JFK to CDG. No flight I ever took has come even close when it comes to staff attractiveness. There were a couple of guys on the crew and I was thinking "This must be a nice job for them. I wonder if there are anti-fraternization rules". Anyway, I'm not really saying AF is superior, just reflecting my experience on that flight from JFK to CDG. Actually from CDG to SOF was pretty good, too, except for the fact my wife tangled with French security and spent all night in the terminal. But aw what the heck. She's told that story innumerable times and now is a confident traveler, so I don't even consider that a bad thing. The very next year she flew AF to SOF with no trouble at all, so no harm no foul. Anyway, I just had to become a member here because the repartee beats anything I've seen anywhere online. Actual FUNNY jokes, not just bitter asides. You people are genuinely funny! |
Welcome to FT! :)
The thread you wanted is the "Who we all are"-thread that is at the top of this, the Community Buzz section. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/commu...ho-we-all.html Cheers! |
As an Air France Virgin I am looking forward to my first experience in two weeks... I hope my SIN-CDG-CFE flight has the best looking French / Paris models AF got! :D

Hello FT!
I've been lurking on the forums for 1-2 years now, mostly out of laziness of creating an account. I've now become the family go-to guy for all-things-travel because of it, so I guess I'll follow my greetings up with a big 'thank you' :D A bit about myself... I currently live in Cairo, Egypt (studying) and in the Chicago-land area (also studying, sometimes living), and soon replacing that with Seattle, WA (working). Slightly complicated... I know. As for travel, because of my Trans Atlantic flights, I'm mostly on BA. And because of that, I usually stick to AA for domestic flights (MD80... woo). And for hotels, I'm between Hilton and Starwood. Looking forward to getting to know a lot of you FTers, esp those who frequent CAI-LHR-ORD or ORD-SEA. -AQ |
Hello!
Hello FT people!
I am a casual traveler in NJ who will probably also do more business travel in the coming year. I found FT earlier in the year when I decided to redeem Delta miles for the first time and have since learned a lot reading the forums. It helped me recently decide to move from Delta to Continental as my carrier of choice. Thank you for all the great advice!! I find myself visiting the forums more and more frequently so I wanted to finally say hello. My wife thinks this is all very funny :D |
Sorry if I babble too much about my life. Reflecting on it, I have an interesting life
with the travel and the cats and my work and interests and my many friends like all of you on FlyerTalk. And I like to share my adventures with someone who will listen!kunty |
New here SKIEL from MSP
Hello-
Just wanted to say a quick hello and "Thanks" to all the members. I've been a lurker since about May and have learned a lot from all of you. I have been traveling for 15+ years seeing the Midwest USA via the windshield of my car. The last 2 years I have taken to the air. I never "bothered" to get involved with all these "point programs". Oh what a fool I was. Thanks for showing me the light. I'm now Diamond at Hyatt (120 day challenge) but would of gotten there organically anyway. Still trying to decide if I do points or FFN. I seem to be able to average 5 to 7 nights per month at Hyatt. Any comments on the workings of the Hyatt program is appreciated. I'm concentrating on them now. I'm one stay away from Plat at PC staying there 3 or 4 nights per month when I cant find a Hyatt. I will have my 3rd RR flight from WN at the end of the week. I have all of you to thank for the rewards I have gotten from the information you have passed on. I have a Wonderful wife, 3 kids and 2 dogs that appreciate me coming home and mowing the yard or shoveling the driveway. They will also like the airline and hotel rewards I'm banking we we can all take a free trip. - Steven |
I'm one of those long time readers on FT that just recently started posting.
I've been involved in the travel industry for 33 years now, wound up at a rental car counter by age 18 while working my way through school, moved into corporate travel as a TA, did a stint in the PR end of it, spent the middle years of my career as the owner of a storefront travel agency and travel products retail store. Now I work in corporate travel management, handle the troop movements for several companies that do business in all corners of the globe and service a small luxury leisure client list. FlyerTalk has been very helpful as a resource in evaluating the topics of concern for the road warriors that I serve, including assisting in the management of their frequent travel and customer loyalty programs. But mostly I've always been an airline nut, live and breath the industry, tend to hang with airline and travel agent employees/owners of the same ilk, or those that live a good chunk of their lives on the road. Air travel. Love it or hate it, it can be a magnificent obsession. :) |
Name: Jeremy
City of primary residence: NY Places I frequent: Colombia, Vermont, Asia, Russia and Eastern Europe. Reason for joining...I realized that I should pay more attention to the miles I am earning. Free Tix redeemed: JFK-DPS (Bali, Indonesia) LGA-AMS, BUD, and PRG. Goal--Elite AA status. I am 5 K off now. I need to have a status match to Delta...so I can enjoy some of the benefits on my +/- monthly trip to BOG. :) |
Hi All!
I've been a casual lurker here for about a year and can easily get sucked in for a few hours of reading at a time, so I figured I should get around to registering. ;) I fly AA pretty exclusively, 3-4 times a year, although I do have some miles w/BA (taking advantage of their non-stop flight options.) I was lucky enough to be Gold w/AA last year, but just didn't fly enough to keep it up. *sniff* Looking forward to all the good advice posted here. Thanks! -Kath |

Hi from Norway!
I found this thread today, so thought I would write a little bit about myself.
I am from Norway, a very small country in the very north. And no, we don't have ice-bears in the streets...:) I am 36 years, married and we have a son at 14,5. I am self-employed in the beauty-industry and travel a lot to shows and competitions all over the world. My husband also travels a lot with his work and since I am self-employed I sometimes have the opportunity to travel with him. My favorite places are Tokyo, London and Barcelona. However, I have not been to New-York yet...:-D As a part-time job I am working at a travel-agency once a month. I do it mainly to keep in touch with the travel-industry (and to get some good offers...:-)). I am not very much into miles and points, but after my next trip I will be an Elite-Gold with Flying Blue. I also payed my Ambassador membership after reading about it here. Unfortunately, since self-employed, nobody pay for my hotels, so can't afford the most expensive, but LOVE to stay at GOOD hotels (when I can get them for a bargain.... quite sad, but true... :-)). I love this site and am glad to see that I am not the only "travel-nuts"...:-D xxx. |
