Hello everybody! My name is Matt and I live near Philadelphia part of the year and Indianapolis the other. I'm currently a 1K on UA, but will drop to 1P next year. Yea, I know it's crazy with all these DEQM promos going on, but work has been very slow this year and pennies have been pinched.
I just took a new job that will hopefully provide a lot more biz travel next year. Even though I'm in Philly, I'll probably stick with UA b/c US is horrid. For leisure travel my plan is to go to BKK 1-2 time/year since my wife is from there. That should also help solidify 1K for me, and 2P for her. I've been on this forum for a long time, including years of reading but not posting. While I'm not as bad as some people, I am definitely hooked on collecting miles & points. I hope to attend more DOs in the future. And I've even been known to do a couple mileage/segment runs. I have the yellow tag on my computer bag, so look me up!! |
Ian from Boston here.... while most people see travel as a painful addition to their job I embrace it (like most other FT folks). My job requires me to travel all over the country and occasionally the world. When I'm not working I use the miles to take last minute trips and sponser friends and the wife to random places. First time 1k this year with many more to come...

Hello. My name is Beth and I work for a paper company working on capital projects so I travel to all of our mill locations for various projects. I'm looking forward to learning more from you guys on how survive all the traveling.

Hi, everyone. I'm a dedicated American Airlines frequent flyer, even though they pulled the rug out from under me by closing down their San Luis Obispo, CA base, my home airport. I've worked for a local hospital for 23 years now (yikes! where did the time go?). I started in the Lab and moved to hospital administration, Laboratory management for 3 hospitals, outpatient services, and now HIPAA privacy for 3 hospitals on the Central Coast of California. I recently attended my first Do--the Boo Doo in Andorra. I had a great time meeting some fellow FlyerTalkers and was blown away by some of their experiences. I've still got a lot to learn and I look forward to many years of on-the-job frequent flyer training with you folks.

Corvette Owner
John from Delaware. I don't fly much, but I use a GM card to buy Corvettes. I bought a new one in 2005, and a C7 Corvette is due out around 2012, and every purchase is 5% toward the car. I figure I can get ideas on how to better use the card to build up points from you experts. I read the story in the Wall Street Journal about the coins from the mint.

San Diego
Just found this site after it was mentioned in the WSJ article today about people buying $1 coins and turning them in and grabbing the miles.
Thought it was a very interesting way to play the system. The airlines are always taking away, so we as consumers have to play the games ourselves to make travel more friendly for us. I'm also a traveler who's interested in making as many trips as possible. Now that we are upon winter I'm looking at ski trips and heading to the Vancouver Olympics in February. Any feedback on how to get the most out of this board would be appreciated. Thank you. |

A good way to start is reading the sticky threads on top of each forum that fits your interests, let it be airline forums, rental car, or credit cards forums. Also read the threads in the first 2 pages in each forum. Usually a "hot" topic/deal will attract many posts quickly and stays visible at forum's frontpage. FTers use tons of "code" words, which may lose any newbie in any minute. :D For that reason, don't hesitate using FT Help Menu (@ your upper right screen on top of each page). Study Glossary if you must. Enjoy FT! |
Hi All!
Allison from Pittsburgh. I've been lurking around on the site for a few months now, figure it's time I start engaging :) I'm a consultant for a software/services company - my weekly routes are on DL, currently PIT-ATL, previously was on PIT-DTW for a year; though I enjoy personal travel to DEN, BOS, JFK, BWI and PHL (not as much personal travel as we all wish for, though). My last fantastic journey away from work was CDG, Brussels & Amsterdam for 10 days. Booked for Lima, Peru on LAN in May 2010!! Seems like some great folks on here who are super knowledgeable on the industry - education on the inner workings of the travel industry is something I am interested in on the side, and it also makes the hours in the tube go by much faster when you have friends at the gate and counter!! Cheers :) |

Who am I?
Well, after standing on the sidelines of this forum for a while, I decided to finally post something and this thread provides the perfect opportunity. I'm married and live just north of Cincinnati. Just us and two demanding pets.
I've worked in the hotel industry for close to 20 years - but will remain mum on the name of my employer. My current role exposes me to the vagaries of every domestic airline, rental car company, and hotel company in the U.S. As such, I travel every week to 3/4/5 cities. It's never dull. Looking forward to making e-friends and sharing some thoughts about this crazy travelife. My father suggested I should write articles under the headline: "Everyone is Entitled to my Opinion". FT pointers would be welcome. Safe travels, all! |
new here
stumbled upon this website as I was looking up fear of flying support. I have a massive fear of flying but am a frequent traveler. I live in Israel, spend a lot of year back and forth between here and my home state of California. Its a very long flight. I have recently added a baby to the mix, so it only gets more interesting.
I have already started to look at some of the posts and i love it! looking forward to more... |
It's not my first post, but I haven't introduced myself, so ...
I found Flyertalk through a Google search on best travel luggage, back in May. I was headed to South Africa, my first international trip, and needed a big suitcase. The advice here led me to a Briggs&Riley. I lurked for a few months, learning about the ropes. Eventually, over Thanksgiving I felt I had some knowledge and jumped in. Since I don't travel much, I'm looking for the deals. Between the BA Visa and US cheap miles, I will have over 500K miles, enough for several years worth of trips. Now, I just need to plan them :) I live in Louisville. Now, I'm an assistant professor of statistics. Before that, I was a grad student. Before that, a consultant - not much flying, but lots of hotel stays. |
Hello FTers
After almost one year of reading decided to say hello here :) Name: Greg Location: WAW Occupation: Lawyer Usually flying with: LO, LH and LX Hobby: Travelling around (Europe, South Asia and US mostly) usually just for pure pleasure of flying plus some business sometimes of course. Additional info: Almost PPL(A) licence owner |
My name is Paul. 45 years old, married with three young daughters. Co-owner of a skin care/infection control manufacturing company, and call on our distributors across the country. Almost all domestic travel, though a good chance of heading to China in 2010. When UA came out with E+ seats, I was all over it - I'm a bit tall (6'6") and the leg room won me over. I've had an overall positive experience with UA (a few exceptions) and made 1K for the first time today. Love, love, love to travel with the exception of being away from my family. I also deeply appreciate the massive information available in this forum. Good people with (so far) very few condescending posts or comments.

welcome to flyertalk, gregorious and pauliboy :)

Just joined. Started doing sales consulting for a tech firm in late '08 and my miles/points/status was all over the place and a complete mess. Completely squandered most of 2009 as far as that goes, so here I am trying to prepare myself for 2010. In NYC and planning accordingly (never straying away from EWR/CO ever again!).
That, and I love flying, planes, airports, hotels and generally just traveling anywhere. "Moving is living," right? Hope to learn here and hopefully (sooner than later) give back as well. |
Introducing....
Hello all,
I'm new here....my name is AmericanBadAzz. I'm not really a bad a$$ lol but since I'm an AAdvantage member I just thought i'd make a play off of it (especially with the song and all). I found this site because (and this may sound crazy to some people... lol) I have a love for architecture and urban landscapes. Next month (Jan 2010) I'll be taking my first trip to LA form Washington DC (which is where I live) via ORD (havent been there either). And well I have a thing for seeing city skylines from the air, so I poking around the net trying to find the usual approach pattern into ORD and LAX... you know.. to see how good of a view of the cityscapes I may get when coming in for a landing (I still have yet to find a clear answer for ORD). Google found an image someone put on this site of them flying over the Chicago skyline when taking off from I think MDW. I've been in love with this site since. ^ Anyway since I was a kid i've always been interested in traveling ( and have a looooooong list of places to see/visit before I leave this earth. I'm only 29 so I anticipate having plenty of time. In the past couple years I've finally been able to get in a position financially to be able to travel like I want to. I did alot of traveling in 08 and 09 that allowed me to be promoted to AAdvantage Gold ^^ so I expect 2010 to be even better. I also love flying... lol Thank you to whoever made this site and thanks to the members for making it enjoyable to be here. I lookforward ot being an active member. |
Hi there!
Just found this great forum, albeit late at that. All due to my own unwillingness to venture from the familiar sites i frequent. I'm a med student in China, Durban's my home though. Viva South Africa! Come check us out at the World Cup!! Cheers!! |
Welcome durbs777, as well as the other new FTers!! (I feel weird welcoming everyone as I just recently joined myself, but whatever!)
My name is Josh and every time I had a burning question about the airline I was flying on my upcoming flight, I'd google the question and FT was always the first and best hit, so I (FINALLY!!) joined, and it's been one of the smartest decisions ever. I'm from NJ, though I'm a student in Israel, hopefully enlisting in the army in March, but if not, starting college in the fall. Because I'm in Israel but my family lives in NJ, I fly back and forth occasionally, and Continental is my home airline! though I recently tried BA and loved it!! I love flying and I love traveling, and I can't wait to get as much as I can from this site! |
Um, hello everyone! *waves*
Yeah, hi...just joined up this evening (UK time evening), and thought I'd drop a message and introduce myself.
Well, the name's Chris, originally from Liverpool, Merseyside and currently in my 3rd year (out of 5!) in a degree in Music Performance at Birmingham (UK) Conservatoire. And got infected this year with the travel bug after my first solo trip! (to NYC, Philadelphia, Toronto, Washington DC, Niagra Falls and Boston (MA) in 2 weeks!) *waves anxiously* |
Just wanted to say Hi...
Just joined up today...so I wanted to say hello to everyone here.

Joined a couple years ago, just thought I'd start posting.
Sorry to hi-jack this thread just to say 'hi' but am testing seeing that my 1st post had to be moderated prior to posting, wonder if this is the same case. |
Would I be stupid in thinking this is a US based forum?

Great Forum! New Member Intro
I've been reading this forum for a little while and thought it would be good to post some kind of intro before posting anything else. This seemed like the best forum for it, unless I completely missed a sub-forum dedicated to new members.
I just recently discovered this forum and was very happy to find it. I've been a frequent traveler for about 1 1/2 years in my current job have found that I really love to travel, even though I only have ~100k miles in that time. I would love to travel more, but I'm a little disappointed that my department is trying to cut down. :( I currently travel about 65% of the time all domestic. If anyone out there looking for an auditor to travel more and especially international, shoot me a message! :) I'm looking forward to meeting people here, learning a lot, and hopefully contribute something myself. Thanks to everyone who makes this forum what it is! |
Welcome to FT, auditraveler. There actually is a place where new members introduce themselves. It's the Who we all are thread in the Community Forum.
Hope you stick around and share your travel experiences with us :). Bobette |
Hi,
I'm been a AA flyer for a while, looking to learn and thing or two here. |
Thanks! I thought there must have been something for intros.
|
Hey AAflyguy...welcome to FT!! Trust me - I've been here for only a month and have already learned a ton!
