location : Highlands of Scotland, originally from Manchester Unfortuantely as i am not a frequent flyer (4 trips a year to Tx) and i go economy (not blessed with a well paid travel included job), i am unfortuantely stuck with the Onepass programme as it enables me to save miles without seeing them expire before i redeem them ... (are there alternatives?) ... and is it just me or are Co's fares getting more expensive ? regards to all Rob |

Hi
I'm Espen, a 27 year old guy living in Oslo, Norway. Living on my own, although my girlfriend keeps filling up my apartment with her stuff
Working as a business analyst within the silicon business, with main focus on solar energy.....no, I'm no idealist trying to save the world.....i.e. I don't work for free:p And btw guys, there is a huge difference between silicon and silicone....and there are few boobs within silicon, which I work within. As a quite junior guy I currently only have about 10-12 trips a year, 80% within Norway, where airline miles are banned on domestic routes:( However, I love travelling and has a shiny card saying gold, and a few in silver. Currently gold with BMI, but are one my way changing back to good old SAS....but main goal for the next year, beside reaching EB*G (EB = SAS Eurobonus) is to convince and show my girlfriend the benefits from being a frequent flyer......she still doesn't "get" the concept and needs some more experiency within this field. Besides trying to rack up as many miles as possible as some weird ... dude, I like football (the real one, played with a round ball using your feet), skiing and in general just get drunk |
Hey everyone! I am a native of the US, growing up in San Jose, CA and attending college in Boston, MA. Currently doing software development consulting for a couple of clients on both coasts... but unfortunately in this world of Skype and WebEx that alone isn't enough to get me traveling. Trying to land a gig that does...
When I was younger and my parents paid for all my travel I got to United Premier (not hard), but for now I'm nobody... I also like VX for domestic travel between Boston and SFO. Loving the United MP and VX Elevate forums! |
well a wounderful singer i don,t like to dance in my spare time i enjoy reading singing and talking to my self in yhe future i would like to be a veternarian

Hi, my name is black dawn. I'm a team leader at a consulting firm administering defined benefits pension plans in Dallas. I do a fair amount of travel, trying to win new contracts and retain existing contracts (it's a tough market!!!).
I live in Grand Prarie (close to DFW airport) with my ex-football player husband. Our kids are grown, but we enjoy spending time with them and the grandkids. I never go out of town for vacation (I give away my miles to family)... I use the time to clean my house, help my daughter move, and occasionally log in and irritate my employees by phone and e-mail.... :D I'm a member of a large fundamentalist church in Dallas, and I represent the church on several community service groups, like planting trees in the ghetto and helping teens stay out of trouble. I manage to stay very busy! I'm so glad I discovered FlyerTalk -- so many different points of view here! Thanks! :) |
Hello, everyone.
I'm from Youngstown, Ohio, and I'm currently working towards my license to teach math, whether it be in Ohio or elsewhere. Prior to this year, I would only fly for my hobby -- I officiate academic competitions, and the organizing body would pay for my flight and hotel -- but since I began with Priority Club at the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year, I've immersed myself in the pursuit of hotel points and airline miles, joining Hyatt GP in January and United MP in March. I'll make lowly 2P by the end of the month, completing a 4-segment out, 4-segment back trip from CAK to HSV ($292 ai). I would never have done this without reading all the information from this site, particularly about the wonderful ITA tool. I now have a large percentage of my friends who think I am crazy, but it's only because they don't understand. :D |
Hi, I'm Ziva. I'm 32 and from Pennsylvania. I became a frequent flyer a few years ago, and have often found this site useful when I'm looking for info to help me out, but never joined before. I don't know if I will have much to say, but I figured I would join so I could respond if something really strikes my interest.
I am a US national and I do most of my traveling in the US because I work mainly for American aerospace companies. |
Hello to all,
while I will not have much to say, I registered in hopes of getting a @flyertalk.com email. I have been using this forum as a great great resource and figured I should register to keep up with the latest trends and discussions. So the next step is to sign up for Inside Flyer. Regards, -Norus |
Hi,guys ,happy to meet you here,i am a newcomer and hope that i can learn more here.

I'm a long time lurker who finally joined up.
We startied collecting points years ago when my husband had a job that involved a lot of international travel. That all changed 5 years ago, it was no longer fun when limits were put on how much could be spent on hotels and it was fly United Airlines only. So now our points tally is due solely to our own efforts and $s. We tend to stay loyal to a few airline/hotel programs as we don't have the expenditure to justify opening a card for every good deal that comes along. We are not interested in getting a card with enough points for a domestic tix as we tend to use our points to upgrade to premium classes. We figure we are too old and to cranky to fly up the back any more. We also tend to focus on what our needs will be from any program for the next year. Next year we are planning on a trip to Italy. We normally stay Hyatt, but they don't have many properties in Italy so we know to focus our efforts on Hilton and SPG over the next 12 months. |
Grew up in the air
My name is Gary and I just joined this week - what a great site!
My dad worked for AA from 1939 - 1984, hence we traveled a lot - always flew standby - from which I developed severe airport agida - I never fly standby today. I grew up on Long Island, 30 min from JFK/Idlewild and LGA - very convenient for my parents frequent trips. My first flight was in 1950 in a DC-3 to Boston. We traveled a lot toMy father enrolled me in AA Advantage when it first came out. I am a technology and finance consultant for banks and traveled extensively throughout the world from 1980-2000. I am a lifetime 2.5mm AA platinum, which actually affords me little other than priority check-in and some baggage benefits. However, during my peek flying times I was almost always upgraded to first on any long legs, especially London/Paris legs. Those days are over. Anyway, I belong to some cruise forums (a relatively recent addition to my vacationing), but this is my first airline-focused forum. In a few days I have learned much about my credit rating and various FF strategies. Nice to me y'all. I have recently joined AMEX gold to gain access to other lines milage programs. I seem to travel more on Continental. |
Hey there :-)
I'm a 31-yo university professor in Milan. I teach computer security. I am also a quite appreciated conference speaker in hacker conferences around the world ;-) In another couple of lives, I kickstarted a consulting startup, and worked as a technical analyst for a leading ICT weekly magazine (I'm sure you can guess). This all adds up in being a frequent flyer, as you can see :) |
A G'day to all from a Land Down Under!
I'm Ben, 18 years old, and currently studying an undergrad. at University in Melbourne. A friend suggested this great-looking forum to me. I'm a newbie, and don't actually travel as much as many of the other members here, only several return domestic flights every year. But, like all of you here, I simply love travelling, especially by plane. I think it was because of the fact that I lived in England for 3 years that I have forever had the travel bug... so next year, I'm planning an overseas trip, but it won't stop there, with ideas already taking shape for an around-the-world trip not long after that! :D In addition I love writing, and hope to take up some travel writing as a bit of a hobby, which will hopefully see me travelling even more. So, here I am, ready to learn a lot, and hopefully by-and-by I can help others out too. |
Hi guys! my name is Rafael I'm new here. I'm so excited to share my travel stories on this forum.
|
Hi...my name is Raymond
I travel about 200,000 miles per year, mostly on AA. Have been an AAirpass member for 10 years and you can ask me anything on the subject.

New in the neighbourhood!
Hi, I just joined flyertalk. I found it because I noticed I had been upgraded to Platinum Royal Ambassador by Intercontinental. I had no idea what that meant (am travelling so haven't checked my mail recently), so searched it and found a link to flyertalk. Long story but glad I found it. I'm now a little wiser about the upgrade, but guess I'll find out more when I check into IC Singapore tomorrow.
Anyway, am NZ based, but travel to Asia (Singapore, Manila, Bangkok, KL mostly) about 8 times per year, plus roughly once a year to San Francisco/Houston. Look forward to reading, writing and learning! |
Let me please introduce myself...

Hi there !
FlyingSwede has joined the game. Have been flying frequently since mid 80´s. Have flown with more than 60 different airlines over the years, and numerous aircrafts. Still missing some good one's like Virgin. Never did go on Concorde, was planning to book a ticket when the whole thing was grounded.. Now I eagerly anticipate flying the new A380. Very interested in all moving things, planes, cars etc. Also likes to play a round of golf, or just spend time with my family. |
Hi, I'm Pete!
I've been lurking around here for a while but finally decided to register an account. I just transitioned from a Big4 CPA firm consulting job to an IT position with a major retailer. I owe my passion for points and miles to my first manager who literally forced me to sign up for every major hotel and airline program... so here's to you, Mark! |
Continental miles
First of all I want to thank all of you for your suggestions for getting miles. I now have enough for the next two vacations to Europe. Here though is a question - When I first called to inquire about flights to Brussels from Newark next July (2011), I was told that the FF seats were not open yet on Continental direct flights, so I had to take a partner airline, with one stop. When I called the next day to make the reservations, I found out that I could have the direct flight, but at 75,000 miles vs. 55,000 for the one stop flight, is this a scam?
Thanks |
Hello, my name is Roel and I am a philosophy student who enjoys traveling. In a previous life I worked for a big IT consultancy which allowed me to collect a nice starting capital of air miles and hotel points. My (very humble) goal for this year is to qualify for UA Prem Exec.

Thanks As you spend time here, you'll see that FT is organized into focused forums for specific topics. That's the only way to avoid total chaos with over ten million posts. This forum, CommunityBuzz, is for the social aspects of FT, and this specific thread is for members to introduce themselves to each other. Every major airline, including Continental, has a forum. That's where the experts on CO, who can help you the most, hang out. Many of them don't come here. I've asked a moderator to move this thread to that forum. |
Allow Myself to Introduce Myself
I've been reading the forum for a while and thought I'd sign up and introduce myself.
I've flown IAH-SIN twice in the past year, have another one scheduled in a few weeks, and will probably do this same trip three more times in the next few months. First two trips were business class (Continental through NRT and SingAir through DME) but thanks to current budget constraints I've been demoted to economy for the time being. DOH! I'm more than familiar with economy but never for a flight of this magnitude. That makes me rather apprehensive about my upcoming trip (SingAir through DME again). After reading this forum I've purchased a Komfort Kollar, thermarest lumbar support, and theramrest lite camp cushion. I've also got Bose headphones, ear plugs, bucky eye mask, and a cool max blanket from previous traveling. Any additional tips? Wish me luck. |
Welcome to FT!
|
Thanks!
I just spent the $100 to upgrade to a 'preferred' seat ($50 each way). Row 31 both ways which is the first economy row behind business class. (777-300ER) That should be an improvement over "seat assigned at check-in" option that I currently had! |
Welcome to FlyerTalk SingHomer!
If you are traveling for business, what does your corporate travel policy state about air travel in excess of X hours? I know my last company's policy used eight hours as the determination between coach and first/business. If that is not an option, and you can make your own reservations, look at a higher fare class ticket to you have a better chance of an upgrade (depending on which air line you fly) based on your status. Travel safe and good luck! |
Hi,
My name is Steve and I'm an aviation enthusiast. I enjoy reading about the industry (past and present) and have various collections and displays focusing on the '70s and '80s. I fly at least twice a year to football games and will be looking for vacation tips in general. |
Hey Everyone,
Earlier this year I set the goal to climb the tallest mountain on every continent as well as run a marathon on each. Now it's time to figure out the logistics of such a challenge on a limited budget, so I'm here to learn all about Frequent Flyer miles and how to use them to book some fairly complicated itineraries. Learned a ton already and looking forward to learning so much more. Unbelievable community here. Cheers, Tyler |
Well I should probably introduce myself even though I just created my account here.
My name is Mads, I am 27 year old from Denmark and live in Rio de Janeiro with my fiancee. I work with online gaming which I have done about 6 years now. I love to travel and visit new places. I will try to help people with the tips and I will use the site for tips to my own travels. I am a member of Tap Victoria as I will fly a lot between Europe and Brazil |
New To Flyer Talk
I am new to Flyer Talk, and hope to learn more about mileage runs from Seattle as I try to attain Alaska Airlines MVP 90K status this year through Alaska and its partners. Eric (near Seattle).

Hi everyone,
My name is Jeremy. I'm a long time lurker, but just recently started posting. I'm 25 and I work in a sales/IT position driving policy and procedure for our CRM system as well as training our sales team. This position is a new development for me and has me traveling a lot more than I did in my old role (inside sales). I'm new to a lot of this and am figuring it out as I go. Fly US Airways almost exclusively because of my location in rural PA. Started traveling heavily in July and will easily make Silver by the end of the year (possibly Gold with a few more trips). Some of my hobbies are guitars/music, golf, and reading. Nice to meet everyone and I look forward to contributing when I know more. Jeremy |
Hello...
Hi everyone...
Nice to be here... Wnat to now how to Fly in this Flyer talk forum... |
Hello from YAN (Yet Another Newbie)
Hi All,
I'm new to FlyerTalk - came here by way of a recommendation in BritishExpats.com Currently living in Southampton, UK, but about to move to Phoenix, AZ in USA with work (9th Nov, yipee!). I travel a reasonable amount, possibly more in the future as I pick up global responsibility for sales training for a US-based semiconductor company. I am a BA Exec Club (Blue) member, and would love to find out how to get around the pain that is flying lots on economy tickets and racking up very little in the way of points...! I am sure I'm doing something wrong or not at all! That sounds a little 1-sided, but that's not my intent - also looking to provide support to fellow members of this forum in any way I can. Cheers Harry |
Hi Everyone,
My name is my Username. I live in Yass in southern New South Wales, Australia. I work for the Australian Department of Immigration & Citizenship. I am married with 4 kids (ages: 14, 11, 10, 10). I am a Qantas Platinum (OneWorld Emerald) Frequent Flyer. My home airport is Canberra (CBR). I travel too much as part of my job, mainly domestically to Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. I have been to the USA heaps of times, I have been to Singapore, New Zealand (twice), Bali (twice), Hawaii, Fiji, Vanuatu, Noumea and the Solomon Islands. I like staying with Accor hotels, Omni Hotels (USA), Hilton hotels and Medina Executive Apartments. I only fly Qantas and American Airlines (OneWorld supporter). My favourite aircraft is the A380. My favourite seats on the Qantas Boeing 747-400 is Upper Deck 16A or 16B, however I will not be disappointed if I am seated in First Class (I will get over it). My wife gets angry at all the travelling I do, but I butter her up with gifts. That's all I can think of for now... John |
Hi all,
Been lurking for the past few weeks and learning quite a bit (thanks for the Radisson F&F deal and the US Airways *A redemption scheme !!). I've been very impressed so far by all the invaluable info I've been able to find and quite admirative of the time people spend to share their tips and stories with others. As for me, I'm in my late 20s, with a taste for travel in general, under different forms: all the way from treks in remote places to luxury hotels. Living in Paris and quite thankful for the 7+ weeks of holidays per year :p Though one still needs to find the money and/or right deals to use that time well. Also, very much into good food and wine (I am indeed French!). Nice to join this community ! |
Who am I?
I am a 36 year old Brit. My partner and I are about to embark on a year of travel to SE Asia, N Cyprus and who knows where else!
Have never really travelled for business much and have averaged about one long haul a year for leisure. That's all about to change. So I need to learn how to play the game! Any tips for a flyer talk noob gratefully received :) Very glad to join you all |
Hello!
My name is Sealink. After 137 posts I decided I should introduce myself! I think I've had a bit of an eventful life so far. Brought up as a devout Jehovah's Witness, then realised I was gay. Um, that doesn't fit in so great so I literally ran away to London at the age of 30, to live with a rabid athiest. That turned out to be a bit of a mind-f*ck so then set out on my own, with new flatmates. And haven't looked back. I am in the happy position of being an ex-JW who doesn't hate them, but definitely have found a more humanist approach to belief, and my philosophy as a bleeding-heart-liberal is to live and let live, and love. I have never ever lost the excitement of travel. Recently, I flew to Italy and could not get the wide-eyed grin off my face as my train approached Gatwick Airport. Possibly because I was flying Club Europe for the first time, but also, because, well, flying is just absolutely life-affirmingly AMAZING!!! I was with a great guy for five years but that ended, but not before I went to New York and Boston (with Virgin Atlantic :) ), Bilbao, Belfast, Dublin, Cornwall, Boston again, and Prague. Getting him over his fear of flying is one of the things I am most proud of. Last year we broke up. I still love him, but that's not for here. What I did do is to fill my days with new things. Skinny dipping for starters. I went to my first ever music festival (80s Rewind), I spoke to people in pubs (living in London I somehow lost my gift of the gab) and just decided to love life and smile. I also love trains and boats, so with my new found freedom travelled to Dublin - 7 hours on the train and 3 hours on a boat. Loved IT! When I fly, I don't have any snobbery. I have had 14+ Ryanair flights, plus EasyJet and FlyBE. Also tried Club Europe and Upper Class, but £££ means that I can't do that all the time. Living in London I am unbelievably lucky to have umpteen airlines and routes to choose from - my next flight is from London City to Copenhagen (where I was offered a cheap Club Europe upgrade - £49) and then Virgin Atlantic to South Africa... but for some reason, the one that I am most looking forward to is Germanwings - an airline I haven't flown with before. Talking of which, I really want to try Aer Arann and FlyBaboo. Watch this space! Still reading? Bless! |
