Greetings
Hello FT,
Like many others I've lurked for a little bit and learned a lot. I never knew how complex the network of miles/points/status really was until I discovered the site. For now I fly for leisure, mainly occasional short hops, although I try to do one or two transcons a year. I don't rack up anywhere close to as many BIS miles as many on here and, as such, alternative ways of earning miles besides flying are something I'm keenly interested in. This site has been extremely informative, and I'd like to thank the community for being so informative and helpful ^. I'm looking forward to use all your tips and tricks and start building up my program balances! -mark3ymark |
hello lovers of the sky!
I am a flight attendant for a regional airline, commonly known as delta connection and there is NOTHING that beats the beauty of a sunrise over the ocean, unless iit is over the mountains, or maybe over the plains. Oh Well, you see, there is nothing as beautiful as an uneventful flight, and we flight attendants are there to help insure that is EXACTLY what you get! ;)

Greetings, nice to be here.
Looking forward... Hope to contribute and learn. Thanks!!;) |

Last week I did a google search which came up with a posting by bealine in 2003 titled:
>> Tall Tales from the BA Concorde Fleet! << which incited me to join this DG. As I used to fly AF Concorde in the early '80s as cabin crew, I was wondering if any of you were crew on BA Concorde or Braniff (1979 - 1980). Those were the golden yrs when AF Concorde flew to 5 destinations (Rio, NY, Washington, Caracas & Mexico City). As from Nov 1st 1980, JFK became the only scheduled destination, marking the beginning of the end for AF Concorde operations unfortunately. Although I'm British, I was born & raised in Brazil before being sent to boarding school in UK & have lived in Paris since 1972 (when my car broke down on holiday!). Then I joined AF in 1975 when they opened up their doors to candidates from the Common Market. Here we have an association called APCOS for any Concorde-related staff (retired or not) & we meet up every yr in Jan for dinner, usually held at the Senate's restaurant. A great opportunity to see some of my ex-colleagues who represent most of the group, & inevitably, share our wild stories. ;) France does have a selection of Concorde books, 2 of which by an AF Concorde captain, Edouard Chemel, & there are a few tales in 1 of his books. Best regards, Douglas Hallawell >> Tall Tales from the BA Concorde Fleet! |
Sorry, meant to say Nov 1st 1982 , not 1980.
JFK became the only scheduled destination for AF as from Nov 1st 1982. BR, Douglas |
Hey I'm new
Hi there,
I live in San Francisco. Luckily, I grew up as the son of a family travel writer, so I got to go on a bunch of really fun family trips as a kid. I miss traveling! My last two big trips were both several years ago, Thailand and London/Paris. I'm now looking to save up miles and vacation days to visit friends in New York, Singapore and London/Paris by the end of the year. I'm totally new to travel hacking and have a Virgin America Elevate card. I love Virgin America's flights, but the interest rate is kind of ridiculous and I'm just shy of 19k miles. Since I'm so close to SFO, I'm thinking of applying for a United Airlines credit or debit card. I know these cards get deals every once in a while -- I'm kicking myself for not getting the 100k British Airways card. I'm wondering if now's the right time to get a United card, and if credit or debit is the best way to go. If you have any tips for SFO for international or domestic travel, please feel free to message me! I rarely travel for work, so if you have any tips for racking up miles, ping me. -Matt |
new here
hello everyone,
My name is Jikan A. I'm a novice priest in the Tendai tradition of Buddhism. This means I need to travel a lot for training and teaching (and to get away from both of those sometimes...). It also means I need to find creative ways to economize and get from A to B without much trouble or expense. I'm here to learn how to do a better job of that, and to meet some nice people too. |
Hi Everyone
My name is Danial, I'm new to the forum,I'm thinking of Travailing next year and would like to make friends and get some good advice before travel world.
|
hi
You may want to post in the beginners forum. You are kinda off topic here. Welcome though.
Make sure to get miles for all your trips...I didn't do that when I traveled for awhile. Why is your name spelled wrong? |
Moving to CB Forum. Welcome to FT!!

Hello, I'm new here and thought I'd say Hi.
I love to travel to China and do about 3 times a year to see my Lao Po. I also travel a lot here in the U.S. for work. My name is Mike, and it's nice to meet you all. |
Hi All.
Newbie here and other info below: Age: 27 y/o, single and female Job: SEO Specialist Country of Origin: Philippines Nationality: Filipina Just ask me if you wanna know anything about me or my country. :) |
Where have you been all my life?
I Feel like I've found my way home and will sleep well tonight knowing that I have thousands of like-minded "imaginary" travel friends watching over fares, upgrades and policy changes in this wondeful, crazy world of travel we dare not live without....
It's my mother's doing, really...winning 2 separate 5* African safari vacations when I was young. At 12 years old, multi-course rooftop dining in Brussels and the walk-in sunken bathtubs at the Mt. Kenya Safari Club made a lasting impression on one from a family spiritually rich but financially, shall we say, limited. And so it began, the tireless hunt for luxury and value miles and memories. My old passports are some of my most cherished possession and this truly my passion. Thank you for welcoming me "home"... |
Hi everyone. My name is Vicki. I've been lurking for a long time but never posted. I always feel that I sound silly. I probably should work on that. Anyway, I live in Woodbury, MN, a Twin Cities suburb and work as a legal secretary in a Minneapolis law firm. I travel when I can afford it and really appreciate the information here about ways to earn miles. My favorite trip is my annual trip to Honolulu. I really like it there and it calls me back each year. There's something about Hawaii that does that. Otherwise, I travel to visit my daughter who lives in China near Hong Kong and have made several trips to Europe. Being a baby boomer, I'm saving frantically for retirement (both dollars to live on and miles), so traveling is just a treat now. All the more reason to enjoy vicariously the experiences I read about here. Thank you all.

Hello everyone. I thought I would just post in this thread to get my first post out of the way! :p

Hi everyone! My name is Heidi and I live in SLC. I travel for work about 3 months out of the year, other than that I LOVE to travel for fun. Last year I've been to S. Africa, Hong Kong, Thailand and many random states in between..
I have been a mile junkie for a while now, but never knew how to do it well - until I found this site! I am so glad there are people like me out there (all of my friends think I am insane - especially when I tried to tell them about the DHG(Th) thread).. Other newbies, if you have hours to kill at work.. check this out. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/delta...llion-hat.html |

Hi all, Mickey here. Originally from the Philippines, now based in Singapore working for a FMCG company. Started flying around Asia for work last October, and whenever I Googled for stuff regarding miles, hotels, etc, I'd always be directed here... so decided to take the plunge and register. Cheers!

Hey
Hey all :)
I'm Stu, 34yrs old and from England. I have travelled a fair amount in my life, the majority being in my childhood having lived in the middle east for 7yrs and then in Indonesia (with various holidays in other destinations). I am an enthusiast of all things related to commercial air travel, I've always been fascinated by it. This despite having acquired a moderate phobia of flying in my 20's. I still fly, however. I feel that there is too much to lose by not seeing other places in the world. I love reading the posts on the forum and I hope to be able to contribute to them myself. |
Hello everyone
I've been a long-time fan of this site - particularly to trip reports forum! I broadcast traffic news on radio stations around the Central and South of the UK, sometimes from an aeroplane - hence my forum name:D I love flying - I have a commercial pilots licence but also enjoy trips abroad when someone else is driving up front! I'm about to post my first trip report to Berlin in the Trip Reports forum so I hope you'll enjoy it. Love the site!^ |

Introducing...me!
[mods, please advise if this is not the proper forum for this]
Hi, FT'ers. I'm a "long time lurker first time poster". :) I hope you're all having a great day, wherever you are! I've been interested in maximizing my travel enjoyment for a while. Several years ago, our group of friends living in China discovered that if we all signed up for Starwood Amex cards, we could enjoy free rooms at an amazing resort on vacation in Thailand. This was my first and only experience with travel/credit card rewards for several years. Then, last year, I started following Frugal Travel Guy as well as other bloggers who are also involved in this community. Gradually, I started taking advantage of their tips and suggestions. After referring to FlyerTalk numerous times for research and learning, I've finally joined so I can help others. I don't know a ton now, but I hope to be able to contribute in meaningful ways in the future. Speaking of the future, I'm now even thinking of starting my own blog, focused on Americans who travel overseas and the implications with miles, points, etc. Thanks for reading! headala |
Welcome headala. I look forward to your participation.

Aha! Thanks for the move!

New to FT!
Hello Everyone, I found FT about a week ago and have decided to make the jump and join the forums :) I just got back from a month long holiday in Australia and figure this would be the best place to learn more about what the best options would be for my next trip at the end of the year.

Hello Everyone,
since quite time a reader, but not a poster. This changes more and more. 28, Phd-Student, Germany. |
Hi, my name is Kevin, and I'm a frequent flyer with AA (Platinum). I work for a consulting firm and do a lot of business travel, mostly to southern California, and sometimes ATL or NYC.
I was unemployed for 8 months last year. I had been collecting miles for a while (too busy to use them), so I used my miles to do a lot of travel and try to relax... not easy when you're unemployed, but being in F really helps. :) I went to Hawaii, Japan and Argentina. It was great, but unfortunately I do have bills to pay, so I'm glad to be back to work! :D I look forward to learning new things here on flyertalk as well as sharing what I know about travel. @:-) |

Back to FF'ing after 15 years--some changes, mostly the same.
Airline-loyal (Delta, since YX is gone); airport-fickle (CAK, CLE, more PIT now). Can't remember what I ate for lunch, but remember that GX was Air Ontario. Lots of @:-) on this site. How do I put in a "good idea" emoticon? My first post and already I'm . Maybe "just the facts, ma'am." |
I am a new father with twin 11 month old fraternal boys.
Life is really challenging right now. Thanks to everyone on this board for all their help and ideas. |
Hi All,
I've been lurking for awhile now. Based in TPA, 90-100% travel for work although I collect points/miles any way I possibly can! Thanks to FT for all the tips over the last several months! |
