Hey everyone,

I'm new to the site and think it is awesome. I am a college student just starting career-wise. I'm very curious who everyone else is though that posts here (ie. Age career and how you guys have so much money to spend on travel).

I'd really love to get a picture of who the other users are, as I'm sure you all have great backgrounds and stories to share. Thanks so much everyone?

Hi d1baller,

Welcome to Flyertalk! This forum is specifically for the posting of mileage run deals (low fares that can be routed in such a way to maximize their miles-per-dollar ratio). General community discussion can be found in the Community forums: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/community-367/

Best,
stellertony

Welcome to FT!
The point here at FT is to fly for as cheap as possible or not to fly at all to earn free coach and/or first class flights as possible.

Hank, try this first.

If you only collect AA miles, you should check out our AA Forum. The forum mods put together some wonderful sticky thread with lots of effort, so read the stickies and see if you can find answers to your questions. If not, ask away in AA Forum.

Welcome to FT!

Hello all ..

I have been a FT lurker for probably 7 or 8 years and set up an account about 3 years ago.

I am from the midwest and I used to travel weekly for my job, but I only travel once a month or so now. FT has been an incredible resource and I have about 700K in frequent flyer miles/points largely due to this site.

Thank you!

Hi everbody!

I'm Geek007.

I'm a CPA who did accounting fraud investigation and prevention by trade am currently a night audit manager at an IHG hotel/grad student until the economy gets better.

I'm in my late 20's, based in the northern 'burbs of Chicago and have parents and siblings all over the country which means I'm flying to see them no matter what. My parents are in Seattle, one brother is in Anchorage, another is in Dutch Harbor AK and the remaining one is is London. With most of the remaining family in and around Duluth MN.

I'm a nervous flyer, always will be no matter what. I used to love travel and now find it to be a less then good experience most of the time.

I usually fly United, Southwest, Alaska, British Airways and Jet Blue.

Im Ken, a 30 year old international distribution manager for a small Swiss company - currently responsible for North Europe but my area is set to grow exponentially.....

Just got married in June, have an 18 month old Labrador, and when I am not in T5 or a Crowne Plaza somewhere, I love to spend time at home in Stirling, Scotland.

cityculturegal Aug 31, 2011 2:54 pm

Longtime lurker, first time poster here! 20something young professional in San Francisco. My dream profession is design user research (products/branding/experience design), but currently work in performing arts fundraising. Been working hard for retirement funds but have made a vow to travel more internationally: 1 international trip every 2 years, and/or 1+ domestic trip every year or so when my budget allows.

Best things I've learned about from Flyertalk (so far):
-Awardwallet
-SPG Amex and all the myriad of ways to meet the minimum spend (who knew?!)
-Trip planning for Prague, Budapest, and Istanbul (Headed there in a few weeks! My first long vacation/international trip in years )
-I can get rid of my silly Travel Hacking Cartel paid membership

Where I've been:
Austria
Canada
France
Germany
Italy
Netherlands
Peru

Ahh, it feels good to make my first post!

To Star Alliance Experts, please advise this rookie how best to make UA Elite!

Dear Flyer Folks,
Just joined up! First my status, then a few questions, please:
UA 24K, need 6K EQM to Elite; US Air15K + 8 segments; CO 1K only; Delta 84K but no EQMs
I can access 6 airports: IAD, EWR, JFK, PIT, PHL and SCE (State College, PA)
My wife, 2 kids and I fly 4-5 major trips per year: Asia, Europe and S. America. *A seems the logical choice. My questions:
1) We will buy Coach tix to China in Oct and Thailand in Dec. I assume UA is best? Or, *A partner OK?
2) I can qualify for UA Silver Elite in Oct, but then I have to start over in Jan right?
3) So, perhaps wait until Jan. to obtain a UA Credit Card? Which card awards best pts?
4) Should my wife and I apply for separate cards so she can also make Elite?
5) Is there a way to transfer my US Air pts to UA?
6) UA cancelled 14K pts on me when I had serious chronic health problems. Any way to get those back?
7) How best to get lounge access? Perhaps AmEx Plat charge card is easier than gunning for top elite?
Thanks for taking the time to get me "up to speed,"
D

Hi Guys,

I'm registered at FT for quite some time but recently I was convinced by a regular that real participation could be a fun thing.

I am 29, from Germany, but working as a scientist in the field of life science in the Midwest of the US at the moment.

I wouldn't describe myself as a real frequent flyer but I am on a plane more often than the average citizen, I guess. I don't have a status, yet but I am collecting miles at M&M at the moment. Right now I am thinking about changing to a US-Program because of my location.

Some of you may know my nickname from the german "Vielfliegertreff".

Hello everyone! I'm HansGolden's father, whom some of you may know. I own the travel agency where HansGolden works. I've been hearing about these deals for so long, that I just had to join for myself! :D

LaineK Sep 5, 2011 11:46 am

I'm a newbie to this forum although I have read a few posts over the last couple of years. I'm not a frequent flyer but fly enough to want to learn the ins and outs of using credit cards for miles and of obtaining 1st class seats. My husand and I live in cold country so we like to leave for warmer climates in January. We spend 4-5 weeks in Hawaii every other year (in January). We also like to travel overseas every 2-3 years. I'm in my early 60's and am a retired teacher, but I sub occasionally. My husband is also a retired teacher and does tax preparation during the tax season.

Figured I'd introduce myself here.

My name is Ryan, this is my first post with FlyerTalk. I am 24 years old and recently completed my flight training on a Cessna 172 to get my private pilot's licence. I also got hired on with American Eagle Airlines as a flight attendant, ground training for me starts in a few weeks, then it's off to (most likely) JFK in New York where I will be stationed. The goal here, of course, is to get my commerical licence and fly for a living, assuming my health holds out. =)

Hello from Japan

Hi, just joined from Japan. I am not Japanese citizen, but I live there.
I travel on business or holiday about 2 times per year, so I may have a few stories to share.

Please feel free to ask me anything about Japan.

Hi From Fort Lauderdale - will a 22 work?

Hi Road warrior here for BMW - I travel about 7 days a month doing sales training on contract after retiring from BMW corporate a year ago. I live In Fort Lauderdale and love what I do. I have refined my "equipment" down to a craft - I run an Ipad with keynote, and Epson 1750 slimlline projector and a Mac Book air. All in a BMW 20" roller that works well. My equipment case is a small Waterfield Cargo bag and love it.

I am thinking about moving to a soft sided 22" roller from Timbuk2 and I never overpack it. I'm usually only out for about 3 days. I've learned to wash with a roll of quarters vs taking 3 changes of clothes!

I only fly domestic - thoughts on the 22"? - will I have a problem? - I hate checking bags.

Thanks!

Kwikstah Sep 10, 2011 3:14 am

Hey, very new to FlyerTalk. I heard about this site after talking to a couple of friends who were able to come up with schemes to optimize travel.

Currently on vacation in Asia (Shanghai, Tokyo, Seoul), but I'm based in the SF Bay Area and am in my late 20s. My pattern of the last few years has been to take one big trip, but if I can figure out a way to make travel cheaper, I'd do it way more often!
