Welcome aboard ontherun! Yet another Mark among our distinguished company! And there's another Mark who collects UA memorabilia -- our own PremEx...
|
Onefreeman,
I've run up against Mr. Love on the eBay boards <VBG>, luckily I haven't started collecting cigar labels or we'd meet head to head in another collecting venue. Although Premex has made 1K, I'm still mired at Premex myself, and unfortunately I have to make Premex on segments, rather than miles. Thanks for the welcome note. |
Welcome, ontherun...

Punki:
Thank you for the kind words! I was blown away by that coincidence, but it is true that the world is, in some ways, a small place. Good luck at T2!!! Talk with you soon, ------------------ --Ronald mailto:[email protected][email protected]</A> |
Hey Mr. Catman ;-)
Actually I will be in Jamaica for most of September selling books. I doubt that we can meet then, but hey the next time you are in Toronto, let me know. Take care |
As the Institutional Sales Manager for a very larg US bank, I have managed our offices in NY, Altanta & Dallas in the past and now run NY & Chicago. I am based in NY and thus use CO out of EWR frequently to keep an eye on things. The Banks HQ are in SF, so I travel out to the west coast about 5 or 6 times a year. My husband's travels consist of LAS (or anywhere there is sports betting), so he is not quite as frequent a traveler. We also have 5 cats at home, and someone has to 'clean out the litter'. I am a Platinum on CO (Gold for the past 4 years), a Black Marquis in Marriott, a Gold in Starwood and a Platinum (soon to be Diamond) in Hyatt's programs. This year I've travelled to Dublin (Feb), Paris (Mar) and Belgium/Luxembourg (May). I will be going back to Paris in Nov thanks to a free ticket AF gave me when they screwed up--and have a 900 credit on NW for use sometime in the next 2 years due to their overbooking-- so any suggestions would be welcome. The foreign trips were quick (3 or 4 day long weekend) vacations.
I found this site by accident sometime in mid April and have been hooked since. (I made "Member" last week) I love the hints, travel reports and quick responses. I am now getting used to the different personalities and enjoying them all. While I can't make the PIP in Hawaii, I would love to have one I can attend (Las Vegas anyone http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif! |
Great bio Mauld espeically the part about being a CAT LOVER!!!
Again as I said WE CATS RULE!!! http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif And I too would be up for a F-T vegas celebration! ------------------ MEOW! MEOW! MEOW!!! |
Again I'll throw my vote in for Vegas. I'll be there in Sept. on business, but it's easy for me to get there from Portland, and I don't really need much of a reason to go. I love the place!!
|
A Hearty Welcome to you Mauld!
I am always thrilled when I see a woman join the ranks--we are so rare. http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif I think a get together in Las Vegas is a great idea, or New York, or New Orleans, or Key West, or Australia, or.......... Like most Flyer Talkers, when it comes to travel, I'm pretty easy to convince. Where ever it happens to be, I look forward to meeting you there. or Seattle http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
How about a FlyerTalk tour through the Boeing plant? |
I was to the Boeing Airline museum in Seattle which was a LOT of fun. A lot of children there but I think there's an old military plane you can ride in.
If you can get us into the Boeing plant I will be surprised. I thought they would have a LOT of security. But it's a great idea Dgolds! http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ------------------ MEOW! MEOW! MEOW!!! |
I have been lurking her for months and just recently felt comfortable enough to join in. Not that this isn't a very comfortable place--it's my problem. Anyway, I do marketing for a company that provides online lottery services throughout the U.S. and the world. With 27 domestic customers alone, I travel a lot for meetings and presentations. I live and work in Olympia, WA, but the rest of my group is in Sacramento, CA, so I make frequent trips there. I have qualified for AK's next year's MVP gold next year already, and will work on NWA next. I love to hike so live in the right place. (My beloved cat's name is Rusty.)
|
Welcome, TravelWeary. Amazingly enough, daughter also lives in Olympia and loves it there. We have a beautiful State, don't we. I flew up from SFO this morning and fell in love with it all over again as I looked down into the crater of Mt. St. Helens, a view of which I never tire.
I too am an MVP Gold, working on renewing NWA Silver and UAL Premex for 2000 as well--some weeks feel like I live at Seatac. There is talk of a Seattle get together so I sincerely hope I will meet you then if not before. Again, welcome. [This message has been edited by Punki (edited 07-13-1999).] |
And a warm welcome to all you new Flyer Talkers--even those who haven't given us more details in who you are 2 http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif.
|
Ditto (sorry, had to say that! http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif from Sir Edwin, Yaz and of course, Myself. It's really nice to have new members and new imput into the boards. REALLY!
And a very special MEOWY Welcome to all the Pet owners, especially those OWNED by Beloved CATS! WE cats are very special people indeed! |
Thank you for the welcome. I have really gotten some great tips here and many things to think about.
Punki: I also feel sometimes like I live at SeaTac. My first and last stop there is always at one of the Starbucks stands as I fortify or revive myself either for or from that dreadful 60-mile drive to and from the airport. (If only I could get miles for that!) Maybe one day we could meet for a cup of coffee? Again, thanks all for the greetings. |
Catman: I took a tour of the Boeing widebody plant just north of Seattle (can't remember the name of the town, maybe Punki can help) a few years ago. It was a highlight of a wonderful week n the Pacific Northwest that included a night at Mt. Rainier, a trip to Orcas Island and a couple of nights there, and a stay at the hotel (also can't remember the name) at Snoqualmie Falls where they filmed the old Twin Peaks series.
I love Seattle! A great place to visit. |
Everett
|
I know I went to the Boeing Museum but I did not know the plant gave tours.
I think that should be an F-T event. We have to know what we're flyingi in!!! http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
Not only does Boeing give tours (more of an opportunity to look down from an observation deck at some planes being built), but they also have an surplus outlet. Never know what they'll have, but they have had first-class seats. It's in Kent, Wash.
Also, to go on the tour, get there early. They give away the tickets for the day beginning at 8 or 8:30 a.m. and often they're gone for the whole day by 11 a.m. [This message has been edited by letiole (edited 07-19-1999).] |
The Boeing Everett factory tours are conducted to showcase The Boeing Company and the Everett product line, the 747, 767, and 777. As part of the tour, visitors will be located in the largest building in the world by volume (472,000,000 cubic feet). On the Boeing flight line, visitors will see airplanes in various stages of flight test and manufacture for airline customers around the world. Visitors come from every walk of life and from every region of the globe, all with a common interest -- to see the number one aerospace leader in the world: The Boeing Company.

Thank you Rudi!
I wish I knew this when I last went to Seattle! The museum was very nice, although there were some junior high school groups and most of the kids were like "WHY are we here?" Their male teachers were having more fun then they were! Looks like I have to go back soon!!! http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
Just bringing this forward as someone was looking for it on Community. http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Who We All Are 3
I guess it makes sense that this topic is here since that is where others have been looking for it. Here are the links to previous Who We All Are's so thankfully started by Baobab. Don't be shy now. Let us know who you are (even if you're not posting much).
In the Buzz Who we all are 2 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum.../001305-4.html Who we all are http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/000469.html and don't forget to visit the picture gallery HTTP://members.aol.com/flyerpics/wanted.htm [This message has been edited by BlondeBomber (edited 06-01-2000).] |

Good idea to move it.
As someone who only recently had to learn his way around all the areas of this board (just one more post til "Member"!), I'd always wondered what WWAA I and II were doing in Buzz. |
Flyer Talk Community is a recent creation on this board so it and many other threads didn't exist--they all went in the BUZZ in the "old" days. http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif That is why the BUZZ got so large.

Well I've been posting for about a month now so here goes.
I was born in Bellingham, WA but grew up just outside of Vancouver, B.C ( good times! ). Did some travelling as a child, spent 1 year in school at Bathampton, England and sowed my wild oats throughout Europe after high school. Left Canada ( not exactly the job capital of the world ) and joined the U.S Navy and flew all throughout Asia and the Middle East for almost 18 years. I met my beautiful wife in the Philippines and are coming up on 21 years together. We have one son in college, 3 dogs and 4 cats. ( Catman has Yaz and Eddie, I have Balky, Friski, Cosmic and of course BoBo ). So I have a very full house but wouldn't have it any other way. I love to travel, golf, play Ice hockey and chat on the FT boards. I'm looking forward to meeting more of you in my travels and if the opportunity presents itself making more of the get togethers. http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif Cheers Scott |
Thanks Scott, anyone else to follow Scott's lead? We'd love to learn more about you and see some of you at PiP in November.

I've been a bit vocal in the 26 days since I registered on F-T, and hope I've added to the groups mission. Here is my bio:
Born in the Baltimore area, spent most of my life there eating steamed crabs, oysters and all types of Chesapeake Bay seafood. After doing an Army Reserve stint after school, got a sales job with a chemical company and never looked back. Have traveled the Orient, a little bit of Europe and tons of US & Canada. Left MD for a job in NJ (Mt. Laurel)and lived right behind NFL Films HQ. Spent lots of time in PHL eating soft pretzels with mustard & Jim's & Geno's cheesesteaks; played a lot of darts with Aussie & Brit pals at the Dickens Inn on Headhouse Square. Took an offer in PDX 4 yrs ago with a how-to-book publisher as Natl. Sales Mgr. Currently with a $100Mil magazine publishing co. as Key Acct. Sales Mgr, but work from home office in Portland area. We publish 60+ different magazines each month. Re-married for 7 years to a lovely lady from Winnipeg, who is a writer and business trainer. She does free-lance work, traveling all over the world doing seminars, as well as writing for 3-4 of the magazines that my company publishes. We have 3 cats (Angel, Barney and Cassidy) and a Sheltie named Buddy (got him long before Clinton got his dog). Have a stepson living here in PDX & stepdaughter in YVR. My son & daughter live in Maryland. Looking forward to meeting many of you at the SEA & PHL get-togethers... http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif [This message has been edited by shadow (edited 07-27-1999).] |
Alright, here is little old me http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
I was born in Stuttgart, Germany where I lived for most of my life and studied in general, and specifically foreign languages in different European schools. At age 15 I had to move to the States and hated it. But then I realized what a great country this is! So now I am going to the University of Colorado here in Colorado Springs, where I will get a BA in Communications next spring http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif. I am working on my EMT certification as well, because firefighting really caught my fancy. I also found my future husband here, and a great job (can you guess?). Frequent flyer miles are of course important because Germany (family) is an ocean away. And in the meantime I have been trying to learn and smile as much as I can http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif [This message has been edited by dimples (edited 07-27-1999).] |
Thanks dimples (Inside Flyer organization n'est-ce pas?) and shadow. Any other takers?
|
Well for starts let me say again how helpful you all have been. I am a confessed "lurker" with only one other message.
My husband and I have done quite a bit of traveling mostly with American. We have a small manufacturing business in Sarasota Florida which gives us an excuse to travel and call on customers. Our children are grown and we enjoy our six grandchildren whenever we are in town. |
Welcome to the board http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
|
Hey bokich, congrats on reaching member. http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif You are already light years ahead of me with that great airport list. Thank you, thank you, thank you. (Hit him/her up (via e-mail) for a copy it is great!!!!!!!!!!
Scott and Shadow. Thank you for telling your stories and welcome to my fellow Washingtonians. When I watch the weather channel during weeks like this I remember why I live here. (Also think about it a lot in the winter. http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ) Hope you guys show up for at least part of the Seattle Get Together. (I also fly to Portland almost every Wednesday and other days on demand). Dimples, Doesn't sound like you have a strong Northwest background, but don't worry. In a heart beat we adopt and adore folks who laugh and/or smile enough to show their dimples. http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gifAs Bob Barker says, "COME ON DOWN!!!" I love these posts and heartily invite everyone to join in. Getting to know Webflyers and actually meeting them is too cool. Folks who fly this much are always either totally terrificly briliant and wonderful enough to be amazing, or completly crazy and wonderful enough to be entertaining, or just plain wonderful and fun....and in all cases extremely nice. Join in!! It's a good place to be. |
I was born in LA, a real CA native. One of our houses is now under LAX! When I was 10 we moved to Oakland, then a year later to Phila. We ate a lot of cheesesteaks but at Luigi's in Willow Grove. I finally had one at Geno's and Pat's about 2 yrs ago on a trip to show our 16 yr old daughter the old haunts. Luigi's was better! Also you could sit down...
Left Philly for CA in 1962, settled in San Jose. Boom times - both of us at Lockheed. I worked as a programmer, then later in real estate, finally on city council in Saratoga. I spent 1976 to 1978 in Vancouver, shopping like all the rest of the Canadians in Bellingham, WA. I became a smuggler. There, I confessed. We would be so exhausted from our smuggling all day that we would have to go out to dinner - thereby eating our profits for the day! I lived in the San Fernando Valley which is where I sold real estate but moved to N CA in 1979. After 19 yrs in Saratoga, have moved to bucolic Morgan Hill, south Silicon Valley. We have 3 grown, married kids (with grandchildren for us), and one caboose due to graduate HS yr 2000. Then my husband will retire and we will be off for parts unknown. He is a marketing mgr for Varian Medical and travels - lots of FF miles which I manage. Our claim to fame: 7 continents and all 4 oceans. |
I've been lurking for about three weeks now and have found the board to be very helpful and informative. This place reminds me of the forums back in the "good old days" of Compuserve. Very cozy, with just the right s/n ratio.
I live in suburban Atlanta, GA with my wife and 2 kids. I am a marketing executive with a medium sized specialty chemical manufacturer focused primarily on the pulp and paper industry. I was not a frequent traveler until about a year ago and am just now starting to learn the tricks of the trade. I now fly fairly often, maybe 60-70 legs year, mostly to areas with large concentrations of paper mills. Because of this, I fly THROUGH a lot of large hubs on my way to a final destination at some podunk junction in the hinterlands of N. America. For instance, I’ve flown to YYZ 8 or 10 time in the last three years, but it was only last month that I got to leave the airport in anything but an airplane. (What a nice town!) I love seeing the country, but hate the time away from the family. (If you click on the “info” icon above, you’ll find a link to my personal homepage where you can meet my kids and see how easy they are to miss! My interests/hobbies are pretty well covered as well.) I’ve lived in and around ATL most of my life (26 out of 35 years) and continuously for the last 21 years. It used to be an OK place to live, but I’m tired of the traffic, the noise, the pollution, and the overall “speed of life” here. We’d move away in a heartbeat for the right opportunity. I’m mostly a lurker now, but look forward to participating here. Best, JB |
Welcome JB, don't be a stranger to the boards as everyone has great inputs and personnel insights that some of us overlook. Don't just be a lurker http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif, also post some of those exasperating podunk (as you called em) trips in the itinerary's as you never know when another FTer is around, either in an airport or even in Atlanta for a Brave's game.
Cheers Scott http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
Thanks for th welcome Scott! I will try to post as much as I can, especially when I have something to contribute.
My schedules change so much from day to day, so it's hard to know where I'm going to be. I lucked out this week and got a much needed full week in the office. So far, next month looks like: 8/3 ATL-CVG-ATW 8/5 ATW-CVG-ATL 8/9-10 Calhoun, TN (by car) 8/23 ATL-PHL-MDT-PHL-ATL (a day from hell) 8/24-27 ATL-STL or IAH. 8/30-9/3 ATL-PDX All subject to change at a moments notice. Somewhere in there I need to take some vacation, too! |
