Shareholder: KK's don't travel well; you gotta get 'em while they're hot.

Sorry...you'll just have to head down south sometime for a taste.

Speaking of KrispyKremes I told my Scottish cousin, age 16, who was visiting NYC for the first time during the week preceeding the 04 of July, to make sure to stop off at the shop by the WTC and try some. I haven't as yet had a KK experience http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redface.gif , so I wanted to get his impression. Haven't heard yet. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Sorry to see that CanadianFlyer and Honeybunny won't be able to make the FAQ. I hope to be able to meet them in TO at Catman's Red/Green affair.

Just as sorry that PremEx will be washing his hair that weekend. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gifNow that brings back memories... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Also sad that geo1004 won't be there to represent US...but then hey...plenty of UA'ers available to pull up the slack, what with the UA/US merger (to be known as USA: United States Airlines)

auh2o Jul 11, 2000 8:53 pm

I will not be there either. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

About the KKs, dgolds, I understand. Some things are best tasted from where they hail. Wait 'til flyme2 tries to introduce you to one of Quebec's gourmet treats: poutine!

flyme2 Jul 11, 2000 10:09 pm

shareholder: He's already been initiated into the poutine circle of YECH...in YOW, no less!
auh20: Sorry to hear you can't make it up to Bishop Street! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

flyme2: I assume people still dress up to go to dinner in Montreal? (As opposed to here in California...)

Just wondering if I should pack a suit...

flyme2 Jul 11, 2000 11:11 pm

opus17: What no tux??? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Slacks, nice shirt (sport coat optional)...just like dress down Fridays before it became dress down always

opus17 Jul 11, 2000 11:35 pm

Hey, I can handle the tux -- I just need to give my taylor a month's notice before I wear it again so he can order more fabric....

Well, the restaurant looked nice, so I thought dressing up would be the thing to do. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif (Silicon Valley factoid: The more money you have here, the worse you dress). Right after the FAQ, I am going to a "dress down" trade show in Chicago. Never thought I'd see the day.

flyme2 Jul 11, 2000 11:57 pm

BTW, FAQ'ers Randy Petersen will be joining you at the FAQ. For those of you who have never met the Mileage Guru himself, you'll be in for a pleasant surprise...he's a really nice guy!

I don't know about a tux (I'd have to rent one) but I suggest that we all "dress up" for the dinner as our way of rising above the low standards that have prevailed recently on the board.

Besides, as a friend says about her formal dress dinner parties, "Elegantly dressed people have elegant thoughts." http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Attention FAQ'ers:

Any Starwood Platinum attendees who have recently become Platinum (eg. Gold/Platinum Challenge)and are planning to stay at a Starwood property during the FAQ, please make sure to call your Platinum Concierge to verify that your status is up to date and showing in the property's computer system. According to Le Centre Sheraton's computer system, I was still listed as a Starwood Gold member. Just a heads up.

GREAT NEWS!

Le Centre Sheraton lowers its rates during the FAQ

Starwood seems to have amended the rules for Preferred Getaways so that it no longer requires 14 day advance booking but rather the stay must occur within 21 days after making your reservation.

Register With An American Express Card And Get A 4 Pm Late C/Out, subject To Availability

I've checked the rates for rooms during the FAQ and something interesting came up. Book all 3 nights together (Fri, Sat, Sun) and pay a rate of $159 CAD ($106 USD) per night. Tweak your reservation strategy a bit, and book all nights separately and this is what you get:
  • Fri, Jul 21 $159 CAD $106 USD
  • Sat, Jul 22 $119 CAD $ 79 USD
  • Sun, Jul 23 $119 CAD $ 79 USD

Book each day individually to yield these prices. You can save $80 CAD ($53 USD) in this manner. That'll cover your Pierre du Calvet meal!

It is with regret that I must announce that I will be unable to attend the FAQ due to my summer job requirements. I'm sure that it is going to be a GREAT time, and I'm sure I'm going to miss a lot of fun!

I have a room at the Marriott Chateau on a "Can't Beat Friday" rate for Fri and Sat night at CAD$160/nt if anyone wants it, let me know and we can try to change the name on the res.

Hope everyone has a great time in such a great city!

Just tried the Sheraton Centre and it appears Saturday night (22nd) is now sold out, but Sunday is still available. Already staying there on a Free Friday, but must move over to the Four Points for Saturday night. At least I'll have a chance for a good view of the fireworks on Sunday night if I can get a high up room on the northeast side of the hotel.
