FAQ Update
I am happy to announce that the FAQ dinner will be held at the Auberge Pierre du Calvet in Old Montréal. Located in one of the oldest historic buildings in North America (1725), it has played host to many illustrious figures, including Benjamin Franklin and General Montgomery who planned strategy there in 1775 during the American Revolution.

For all FAQ attendees:
Our dinner at the Pierre du Calvet has been booked and I have taken care of the deposit. I am happy to avoid the hassle of having individual attendees forward me their share...I have been assured that individual tabs will be possible, so you will be able to settle your bill using your preferred plastic (with the exception of the DISCOVER CARD...sorry). I would appreciate, however, knowing in advance who and how many will be attending the dinner. I have negotiated a very reasonable cut off date of July 15, so there is still some time to decide. For those wishing to select vegetarian fare or a non-alcoholic substitute for the wine that will accompany dinner consider July 15 the cut off date for advising me. Keep the FAQ in your thoughts until July 21! Cheers, Rick (flyme2) |

Count Terry and I in for dinner (I know I know we still have to confirm). Have car and hotel booked. Just waiting to see how the field work goes before the final flight booking.

My mouth is already watering from reading the menu. Fine choices, and a restaurant I remember from days of living in Montreal. I do miss Quebec spring lamb which I used to buy several times a month from my regular butcher on St. Catherine -- though our Alberta flock is has proven to be a reliable and tender replacement out here -- and the roasting rack of lamb we are having tonight has added an extra texture to reading the menu options in anticipation of the July dinner.

The majority of respondants preferred to pay $50 USD or less for the main dinner event. However, a significant number limited their dinner budget to $35 USD. In an effort to democratize the FAQ, a venue encompassing both price ranges will be chosen. Not a problem in Montréal where a first class steakhouse dinner can run from $15-$35 USD per meal. A quality all-you-can-eat dinner buffet can set you back a whopping $6.00 USD. Can't beat that anywhere else in North America. |
dg1: You are absolutely correct. I did negotiate a rate of $47 USD for a 5 course meal with wine in a teriffic setting. However, the restaurant does offer an à la carte menu that may be more cost effective. Unfortunately, they can't guarantee that those using that option will be able to get a seating in the more private salon.
