Hey now, I vote for that "clothing optional" thing. I just ran into a guy today from Santa Cruz, California and we were discussing favorite beaches. Surprise, surprise, when we discovered we both fancied the "public" beach 10.1 miles north of the boardwalk on the Coast Hwy! Small world, eh?

NJD: Most people would prefer #3, but a certain someone who works near the restaurant said she would give up her evening out to watch who arrived at our affair as a #5.

I actually do recall that much, ie "stationement," from my past Parisian trips with the big (round, red/blue?) signs of what appears to a chain dangling, as if from the back of a tow truck - when they are real serious about NO PARKING! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

You actually need to know the days of the week, times, etc, and TOW AWAY ZONE in French to be sure! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif I do NOT have the confidence in my French abilities even when I can translate the signs and have appropriate foreign coinage/dollars!

I do recall that across from Chateau Champlain you can park at some rather great lengths, during the winter months only. It really surprised me and I was sure my French was wrong! Menus and wine lists are encontered more frrquently! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Just spent the evening with johna, who flew in early from SFO and spoiled us with lots and lots of FRESH Dungeness crab packed in ice he brought with him. A delicious and extravagant feast ensued, and johna doesn't even eat shellfish!

Parking restriction signs use pictograms. A P with a diagonal bar across it means NO PARKING. Times and days are then idicated underneath the pictogram. Parking meters are in effect Mon-Sat and their hours of usage are usually 9-6 except on Thu and Fri when they are 9-9. Outside of these hours, parking is free, excepting cleaning periods which would be indicated.
St. Antoine St. is usually a safe bet for free overnight parking and is adjacent to the Marriott Chateau Champlain/Place to Canada complex.

Don't forget to bring your passport, OR a picture ID along with proof of citizenship. Although it may not seem like it at times, Canada is a foreign country.
