Well, you might be biased. You're the one who claimed that we could get on the 10am flight that morning and still be satisfied we've seen everything worth seeing in FAI.

Once you've seen the pipeline, there really isn't much left IMNSHO. I find BRW to be much more interesting.

We should have time to visit Chena Hot Springs for a warm dip though.

Just noticed this thread thanks to Gee Emm.
For grins, looked at AS award, found this for 25K miles + $10.
I've taken the train enough decads ago,
but this could be fun...

The above is quite interesting since it is obvious MrHalliday must have family or friends in OME.

Four days for anyone without such would seem to me to be a rather difficult pull.

Wish I could attend but in mid August I already booked 2 friends and myself for an AK trip early next July to Kodiak and the Kodiak NWR (and me to St. George). I can't come that much earlier and/or take another trip only 7-10 days before then.

Thanks!

Have you seen the price of gold lately? Four days could make one very rich.

Looks like we'll be running into you in OME, then!

Since you get there a day before we do, you can be our scout and report if there's anything we need to know.

I spent something like 20 minutes looking for gold on the beach with no results

Granted I didn't even have a gold pan, which is something everyone should probably remember to pack. I had thought you could buy one in Nome, but didn't see any in the store. Everyone may want to make a stop at their local gold mining store before heading to Nome

Well, at 3x50lbs each of baggage allowance, depending on how large our group is, we might be able to take an entire hydrologic mining operation with us piecemeal.

*A folks can take 70lbs @ 3x and interline it onto AS so we don't pay for fees...except out of OME...

We won't worry about fees since we are just going to leave the mining gear there and each only carry out a few bags of gold, Maybe we will put a limit of only 10 or 15 pounds per person.

Intra-Alaska flights get 3 free bags of 50 pounds each, regardless of status.

OK, thanks for putting me on the "tentative" list !
I only started on this today, and see F availability too for 50K,
which would certainly make the travel attractive. .
I will be studying ANC/PDX stopover options too,
which seem to be pretty well addressed here. ^

With 30K in my AS account, I looked at the 40K CC offer,
but may just go with the 20K Business Card offer
as "more likely" to be approved, and enough to "top me up".
But not paying a fee sounds good too...
So maybe I can ticket in a month or two.

I worked in the Kobuk Valley in 1974 and 1976,
but never made it beyond Kobuk strip to Nome !
