For me, I am trying to decide if the hiked fee is worth it. Since I can't use any of the coupons since I don't live in the US, the only way for me to recoup the hike is via Edit. So I need to save $250-$500 a yr by doing what I would already do, not getting a discount of a higher priced purchase than I'd normally make.
As a lifetime titanium and Hyatt Globalist, I already get free breakfast etc and can stay at relatively priced hotels or high end ones. The Edit hotels in HK are like $1000 USD, BKK also crazy higher than what I would normally spend. I would not normally stay at Opposite House in HK or Siam in BKK. I'd do HR BKK and whatever is reasonably priced in HK. So for me, Edit doesn't work in any place I've looked except maybe 4 Seasons in BJ or Langham in Shenzhen. The credit only works if you are willing to spend at those ultra luxury hotels anyway. I'm not because I have much cheaper but adequate options at Hyatt or Marriott usually. So yes, I need that $250 to justify holding onto the card. A huge proportion of my spend Is buying plane tickets vis ctrip. Getting that 3x was worth it but I've lost it. It's better in China to book via ctrip than direct through the airline, the opposite of say Expedia and direct in the US. I've already add RC Chase and Ink Preferred to maintain 3x and Chase lounges/PP. But I'd like to keep flagship card. If I can use Editz that'll be the deciding factor. I'll try to use before end of year, and then twice in January before my renewal comes up. If I can, I'll keep card. If not, then I'm out. |

I just made a reservation for 2 nights at park MGM in Las Vegas. I called Chase travel to confirm daily breakfast credit. They actually seemed unsure if it was a benefit as they looked at the website and also saw there was no benefit for breakfast listed (at this and selected other Las Vegas hotels). They placed me on hold and called the hotel and were told there is a $100 general credit and definitely NO breakfast credit of any type. They were clearly unaware that the web site is specific about the daily breakfast credit - and did not offer any resolution beyond saying this is not a definite benefit and there was nothing else they can do.
This is probably worth about $100 over the 2 day stay for 2 people (4 breakfasts) - which is not going to break anyone with this card - but adds to the odd rollout of the new higher fee for the card and listed benefits. |

That's the problem. Chase says that The Edit hotels include breakfast. It isn't optional.

They probably should change the benefit to "Daily breakfast for 2 if available" just like room upgrades and early check in/late check out. When I was looking to book EDIT hotel in Vegas, I did notice that some EDIT hotels do not have the daily breakfast in the benefits listing. Normally I would not care about free breakfast as most hotel's free breakfast ends at 11am and some even ends at 10am. We don't wake up that early on travel LOL. But the breakfast credit at MGM hotels are different. Some restaurants open for brunch and until 2 or 3 pm. You can walk in at 1pm for lunch and the breakfast credit still works. So breakfast credit turns into brunch credit, and if you use it at a buffet (like we did), you may even be too full to eat dinner so it became a all day food credit LOL.

They could do that, but I think that if they want to succeed in the category they have to make breakfast a non-negotiable requirement for a property to be listed.
So for some properties, it is really down to a $100 rebate against a possibly inflated room rate. |
Just popping in to say I booked the Hotel Urso in Madrid and the $250 credit showed as soon as the transaction posted. It said it could take weeks.

i expect poor service in Vegas and you got it. They were wrong.
There is zero chance of getting late/early checkout without paying at a Vegas hotel regardless of your loyalty status or rates (but they will happily find availability for a $50-100 surcharge) or an upgrade (but will happily offer you a suite upgrade for only $150/night at checkin while saying they have no upgrade availability), so the only real benefit for the Edit would be the property credit and breakfast. All that said, Chase does say that The Edit benefits "vary by property and are subject to availability at check-in, but typically include [...] Daily Breakfast for Two" and when I did a dummy booking I did see that some properties don't include a daily breakfast so you know before you book. Still, it does seem pretty pathetic by Chase and again shows why it is worse than FHR (although perhaps there are exception properties for FHR as well - I honestly don't know). But more broadly this is just a problem with Las Vegas. I have no idea why anyone goes there anymore - everything is overpriced, service is poor, and everything seems adversarial to guests (e.g., no coffee makers in the room to try to force you to the casino floor to buy a crappy $8 black coffee, minibars that charge "on first lift" rather than after a set period of time of the item being out, etc), and there are plenty of alternative gambling destinations that offer more compelling value. Perhaps there is the unique "flare" of Vegas and certain shows, etc - but it is tough to have that compensate for everything else being absolutely terrible. |
I think they finally fixed some of the Hyatt issues. Park Hyatt Seoul just showed up with inventory on the Edit. But I have already booked direct with Hyatt at a lower refundable rate. If I re-book 2 days with Chase (prepay) and 1 day with Hyatt direct, I will save may be $60 with the Edit $250 credit plus $100 hotel credit plus the additional 4% chase points. I supposed it is a win, but this clipping coupon thing is just very annoying to me. I am a Globalist so breakfast is not an issue with me.
Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur is not even showing up on the Chase Travel portal! |
BTW, I just got my after stay room charges from my Vegas EDIT stay. Even though the original listing say Resort Fees are included, it was not. When I was checking in, the clerk already told me that the room and taxes are prepaid but resort fee were not included. However, resort fee were reduced from $55 per day to $50 per day because EDIT gives free WiFi and free WiFi was part of the resort fee. I have booked many Chase Travel hotel stays (non-EDIT) before and resort fees were never included so I was kind of surprised to see it listed as included.

Again, this goes back to Las Vegas standard: the entire model is that a sucker is born every minute (to be clear I am not calling you a sucker.. you're a victim). I have no doubt that the front desk agents are trained to charge resort fees even if they are already paid for in the reservation, and it requires a supervisor to override (and only take it off when threatened with legal action or chargebacks). The $5 concession on the Wifi seems too contrived to be accidental: that is their small "give" to make you feel like you got a win while they still capture 90% of the resort fee. I know that sounds conspiratorial but I have had similar attempts so many times - including resort fees that shouldn't be charged on the rate that I was paying (a corporate rate that was explicitly exempted from resort fees.. they just assume people won't care because it's OPM). |

The thing is that I am pretty sure resort fee is not included and it was Chase listing (not only on EDIT hotel, some non EDIT hotels also have the same problem) that has an mistake. And after booking, I can't really prove it as I didn't make any screenshots of the original listing. Oh well, live and learn. |

Nope. I looked at the email Chase sent and it does say anything about taxes, fees, and resort fees are included. It just gave you a total how much was paid. Even worst is that in the fine prints of the email, it said "Additional General Policy Information Daily resort fee will be added to all stays, cannot pay with points and must be paid upon check-in."
