Please record data points in a structured form in this wiki (in addition to posting to the thread):

Date of the offer [mm/dd/yyyy], the offer, how long you had the card and yearly spend)

__________________________________________________ _____________
Tips:

When you call, you MUST ask if there are any offers on your account. Don't ask for an AF waiver, ask if they can credit your account the $95 (or whatever your AF is) to your account. They cannot remove the AF, but they can credit an amount to offset it. If you cancel your card within 30 days of receiving retention bonus, then Chase may claw back that bonus Note that Chase has shortened the period in which you can close the card and get the fee refunded. It is 30 days for most (or all?) cards.

If you don't get a retention bonus, the card you are holding may have the option of a downgrade. Cards that are downgraded may be upgraded at a later date. For example a no-fee Sapphire product exists for downgrade which is not available to new applicants. Consolidated discussion of that topic is here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chase...16-onward.html

If you have Ultimate Rewards points in the account you're calling about, try transferring them to another account before calling. For example, if you will ask for a retention on your Sapphire card, transfer the points to your Freedom card in advance.

Cancel Chase biz card 90 days later for full AF refund?

My UA Business card AF charged yesterday and I spoke to an American rep (not sure if that matters). He searched offers on my card and told me there were no offers available. I asked to be transferred to a retention specialist and he said none were available.

He also noted that I have 90 days to cancel the card and get the full annual fee refund. - He even mentioned May 30 as the deadline.

I thought you need to cancel Chase cards within 30 days. Does 90 days apply only to business cards?

Just to clarify, they charged you $95 but then credited you $95? How long passed between the charge and the credit? My own CSP fee posted on 3/1 and I am not seeing any credit as of yet.

Unless there is something unique about the UA business card, you are correct and the rep was wrong. You should be able to verify this by looking at the fine print on your monthly statement.

CSR - $450 AF came due, called in, no offer. Applied for card back in Fall 2018 so over 2 years having it. One of the things I found interesting is that my $300 credit became live a few months ago before my AF just hit and during that time grocery/gas counted towards it I believe so I already used up my $300.

Answering my own question: Both statement credits showed up this morning.

Here's one that's new to me. I sent a secure message to close a Southwest Priority card. Within hours, Chase called *me*! Since this was my parent's card, I didn't try to get the details, but it was clearly a retention phone call. The agent said that my parent would need to call back within a couple hours or else Chase would act on the request.

In this case the card is no longer useful so we won't try to call back for the offer. I just had never heard of the bank calling the customer with a retention offer.
