Date of the offer [mm/dd/yyyy], the offer, how long you had the card and yearly spend)

__________________________________________________ _____________
Tips:

When you call, you MUST ask if there are any offers on your account. Don't ask for an AF waiver, ask if they can credit your account the $95 (or whatever your AF is) to your account. They cannot remove the AF, but they can credit an amount to offset it. If you cancel your card within 30 days of receiving retention bonus, then Chase may claw back that bonus Note that Chase has shortened the period in which you can close the card and get the fee refunded. It is 30 days for most (or all?) cards.

If you don't get a retention bonus, the card you are holding may have the option of a downgrade. Cards that are downgraded may be upgraded at a later date. For example a no-fee Sapphire product exists for downgrade which is not available to new applicants. Consolidated discussion of that topic is here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chase...16-onward.html

If you have Ultimate Rewards points in the account you're calling about, try transferring them to another account before calling. For example, if you will ask for a retention on your Sapphire card, transfer the points to your Freedom card in advance.

The archived 2020 edition is here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chas...-archived.html

Have you held it long enough that you could qualify for a new signup bonus? If you have somewhere else to park the UR temporarily, you could close it and open a CSR (or CSP) and start over.

Apparently they stopped offers on CSP and was asked to product change to Chase Sapphire or Freedom, both no annual fee.

Yeah if you can get a new CSP or CSR SUB that'd be the way to go- downgrade to freedom first to hang on to your points (and get another $1500 quarterly 5x cap)

Barring that if you can get use of the credits PC to CSR might make sense... AF goes up $455, but you get $300 in travel credit and $180 in instacart monthly credits- plus Priority pass, instacart+ for a year, etc...

$95 annual fee posted several days ago on Sapphire card that I have >15 years. Just called on (614) 776-7050‬ number and was told that there is no retention bonus is available. Yearly spend is about $1000.

Anything I should do differently?

First, Sapphire Preferred introduced in 2009. Sapphire Reserve introduced in 2016. There is no way you have had Sapphire over 15 years.

It does not seem anyone has ever received a retention offer on Sapphire Preferred. There are some lucky ones receive $100 to $150 retention offers on Sapphire Reserve, but nobody could discern what behaviors trigger the offers because many who hold it since inception with reasonable of spending amount, do not receive it.

Anyone receive Chase Quest retention lately? If so, what was your annual spend?

This may be unlikely, but was able to do this for my CSR. I didn't even know retention offers existed until this year, and I randomly asked for one on my CSR (and my other chase cards too). They immediately offered me a statement credit of $150 on the CSR (but not the others, which. makes sense since I had the Hyatt, Marriott and IHG card for less than 7 months at the time). I was 3 months into the new "cardmember year" and had already paid my annual fee months ago.

This also worked for my wife's amex plat as well mid-year.

So worth a shot... YMMV of course!

DP: Quest Retention Offer $100

Just received $100 off annual fee this evening. First-time renewal. Spend in 2022 was around $5,000 and spend this year around $3,500. But reading the other posts here I don't have the impression that annual spend is a major factor, at least for first time renewals. I indicated that I had been planning to cancel the card due to forthcoming change in travel patterns (AF was billed in November), but was interested if there were other options available, such as a retention offer, and the agent had it at his fingertips.

My annual fee just posted in November. I called in today to see if I could still get the full AF refunded if I canceled and they said yes. I also asked if there were any retention offers and she offered $250 statement credit, which I was very happy to accept. With the AF increase and me not traveling as much, it's harder to justify, but with the credit it's a lot easier!

PC-ed earlier this year as well and got charged $450 in December. Called in, no offers available.

Come on now, that's a bit on the unreasonable side, isn't it? I mean, yes, it's cool that we're looking out for ourselves and hoping for good deals and the like, but... willfully upgrading to a card in July (or later) and then in November asking for retention?
If I were Chase, I'd be givin' you (and writing in your account) a bit of side-eye.

I guess I'm saying... for those of us in this for the long haul (with the biggies like Chase and Amex), it behooves us to be at least somewhat reasonable, no?
