Please record data points in a structured form in this wiki (in addition to posting to the thread):
Date of the offer [mm/dd/yyyy], the offer, how long you had the card and yearly spend)
__________________________________________________ _____________
Tips:
When you call, you MUST ask if there are any offers on your account. Don't ask for an AF waiver, ask if they can credit your account the $95 (or whatever your AF is) to your account. They cannot remove the AF, but they can credit an amount to offset it. If you cancel your card within 30 days of receiving retention bonus, then Chase may claw back that bonus Note that Chase has shortened the period in which you can close the card and get the fee refunded. It is 30 days for most (or all?) cards.
If you don't get a retention bonus, the card you are holding may have the option of a downgrade. Cards that are downgraded may be upgraded at a later date. For example a no-fee Sapphire product exists for downgrade which is not available to new applicants. Consolidated discussion of that topic is here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chase...16-onward.html
If you have Ultimate Rewards points in the account you're calling about, try transferring them to another account before calling. For example, if you will ask for a retention on your Sapphire card, transfer the points to your Freedom card in advance.

Chase Ink Preferred, first anniversary, called after annual fee posted. No offer.

United Quest Card, had card for 2 years, so 3rd annual fee (signed up with original 100k offer when card came out). $100 statement credit with no spend requirement when specifically asking for a retention offer. This makes sense to me as it bring the cost of the card down to $50 for the year after the $150 UA fee credit.

CSR annual fee posted. Called a few days later and was offered a $150 statement credit to keep the card. Accepted offer (figured for $100 out of pocket after the travel credit it was worth keeping around).
Have had it open for ~4 years, used to put most of my spending on Chase cards but recently shifted pretty much all of it to Amex so relatively low spend on my CSR in the last year. Have called about a retention offer for my CSR pretty much every year and 1st time getting one. Yay!

Chase Infinite retention offer
Opened Chase United Infinite card last year (4/2022) during the 120k UA miles SUB and paid the $525. AF posted this month (5/1/23) but statement hasn't yet closed. Called today and was offered a $100 retention bonus (said I needed to think about it) and given downgrade options. Agent said I have 41 days from date posted to close or downgrade with refund. Think that's totally wrong, as statement T&Cs clearly says 30 days or payment due date from statement closing.
My question that I can't resolve: why does my United Club membership have membership expiration date printed 7/31/2023? Assume that must be last day they will honor club membership in a late cancelled/AF prorated situation? Chase agent couldn't explain that date.

P2 called in, canceled Quest card (no offers - though we didn't ask much either). IHG premier, downgraded - no offers, at least none mentioned.
We would have downgraded Quest, but they somehow had my UA number, and sent miles to my account, even though acct was in the name of P2. We never corrected it, and we've got the miles already put to use. Hoping after we close it, it won't cause any troubles. That said, I won't get a Quest card myself for a while.

Legacy IHG Select, 5 years old barely used the past 3 years. AF is due in 2 days.
Got $25 offer today. Front line rep sounded like based in Philippines. She took a minute to look at account then told me to hold the call while she transferred me to account specialist that might take a while to get one. Indeed it was 10+ min before one came online but he quickly came up with the $25 offer. Took it because of the 10% rebate is useful especially it stacks with the 4th night free benefit from the no fee Traveler card.
