Please record data points in a structured form in this wiki (in addition to posting to the thread):

Date of the offer [mm/dd/yyyy], the offer, how long you had the card and yearly spend)

__________________________________________________ _____________
Tips:

When you call, you MUST ask if there are any offers on your account. Don't ask for an AF waiver, ask if they can credit your account the $95 (or whatever your AF is) to your account. They cannot remove the AF, but they can credit an amount to offset it. If you cancel your card within 30 days of receiving retention bonus, then Chase may claw back that bonus Note that Chase has shortened the period in which you can close the card and get the fee refunded. It is 30 days for most (or all?) cards.

If you don't get a retention bonus, the card you are holding may have the option of a downgrade. Cards that are downgraded may be upgraded at a later date. For example a no-fee Sapphire product exists for downgrade which is not available to new applicants. Consolidated discussion of that topic is here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chase...16-onward.html

If you have Ultimate Rewards points in the account you're calling about, try transferring them to another account before calling. For example, if you will ask for a retention on your Sapphire card, transfer the points to your Freedom card in advance.

The archived 2020 edition is here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chas...-archived.html

Oh, I didn't realize that. Thanks for the watchout. The rep said I could change over to a Freedom at any point - do you know if that would then allow me in the future to apply for a new CSP or CSR?

If I intend to hold the CSR long-term, how can I re-apply for the CSP in 48 months' time and get the SUB?

IIRC you can only have ONE Sapphire card at any given time.

Yup. See the Wiki of Chase Personal card

https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chas...nd-95-fee.html

As of August 2018, all Chase Sapphire cards are (with limited exceptions) subject to an additional restriction:

Quote:
The product is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card who received a new cardmember bonus within the last 48 months.
See Sapphire (CSR & CSP) 48 months between bonuses, August 2018 for details and ongoing discussion.

The only ways to bypass this restriction would be
1) downgrade CSR to a Freedom family card. Then after getting the CSP , upgrade the Freedom card to CSR - if that still works.
2) dont hold any Sapphire card then apply both simultaneously - with the one you want the most being the first app. Personally I dont know the exact mechanism.
Search the net on this topic you should be able to find enough data points.

My CSR $550 AF is set to post 6/1 per a recent statement. I called to see if there was anything they could do and was told I would be receiving a $100 credit the same month the AF posts. Without that credit I fully intended to cancel the card.

My AF will also be posting June 1st and I intended to call about retention. I will likely keep it if the AF is $450 versus $550, but additional retention would help make the decision easier.

My annual fee for the CSR hits on June 1st. Today, 5/28, I received an email that said I would be getting a $100 credit toward my annual fee. Looks like I will be keeping my CSR for another year without having to call in to retentions.

Yet another data point of receiving the $100 credit towards the $550 fee due 6/01. I'd been running down the Doordash credit in case I had to downgrade to the CSP

Anyone with recent renewals not receiving the automatic $100 credit?
