If you feel your account has been unfairly closed, consider filing a complaint with the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau:

CFPB's complaint form: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/

When someone reports an account closure here, a lot of the same questions get asked. It might be useful to answer some questions in advance. This could help figure out what happened or how to proceed:
  1. Did you transfer UR points to someone with a different address? Different last name?
  2. Did you sell UR points to someone?
  3. Approximately what percentage of your charges earned less than 5x points in the past 12 months?
  4. Did a Chase or non-Chase bank recently close one of your credit cards?
  5. Are you using up a large percentage of your credit line on all Chase and non-Chase credit cards?
  6. Is your total credit line with Chase much higher than with other banks?
  7. Did you apply for many credit cards or other forms of credit in the past 2 months? ("Many" may be hard to define.)
  8. If you have a Chase checking account how much did you typically deposit in money orders per month, if any?
  9. Did you recently start spending a lot more with Chase than in typical months?
  10. Is your monthly balance frequently close to your credit limit?
  11. Approximately what percentage of spending was on gift cards this year?
  12. How much of your bill do you typically pay using WM or KMart bill payment if any?
  13. Do you have a Chase mortgage or other account that might be profitable to Chase?
  14. Has your credit score or credit profile changed recently? As in: significantly more debt, more open credit lines, or a large drop in your credit score?

Was approved for Ritz Carlton card 14 months later and did nothing unusual with it, other than lower CL from 30K to 10K to free up CL for possible approvals. Two subsequent Chase apps (Chase Ink and Marriott Rewards), on separate dates 3+ months later, were declined for a "previous unsatisfactory relationship ..."

Tried EX Office- they seem to have zero power once the Mullah in loss prevention has issued a fatwa (my guess: some 27 year old with a god complex).

Am I just ....ed for the bonus though? Shows that I'm earning 9K points next statement. I haven't even had the card for a statement period before the account was closed, lol

Interestingly enough, the documentation that I sent via mail for the CIP (with LLC proof) was enough to get me approved for the CIP a few days later. What should I do in regards to that? I heard that as soon as Chase closes one of your credit accounts, they'll just close all of them over a later sweep.

Obviously if I get the points honored from the CSP, then I'll just put 5K worth of charges with the CIP asap hoping they'll honor that bonus as well as the threshold was reached. If not, I'll just call Chase up and cancel the card before an imminent shutdown. I bet that if I kept the card and slowly reached that 5K, it would be closed before then....

Sucks that I blundered this hard with Chase, I hit amex pretty hard with no issues whatsoever
Still trying to figure out what you did wrong or what you feel you did wrong. How is having two legitimate charges and paying them off a negative

It looks like Chase considers you a credit risk? For reasons that I don't know.
To many credit inquiries in a short period of time can trigger a close look by Chase.
Chase has been know to do a soft pull on new customers 1-2 weeks later to make sure other Banks aren't also extending credit. Thus increasing the risk for them.
Your comment about hitting Amex pretty hard may make them think you are only out for sign up bonuses and not a long term customer?
Good luck

Ah, that's probably it.

Yeah the CSR's I've talked with have agreed with me that I shouldn't have been shut down considering the fact that I paid off the account in full quickly, but yeah I guess I'm tagged as that from Chase -- think I'm going to wait at least 1-2 years from Chase now to let my accounts age.

Hopefully I'll still be able to use the points though! Chase sapphire services told me that they will send an inquiry about whether or not I'll get the points from the marketing team, but I doubt it.

Close the CIP. Chase can in fact cite the same reason to close your account.

Believe me or not - it is typical for CSR to misrepresent regardless they have the correct information or not. Unless the CSR can make things happen, always consider what you heard are personal opinions only.

Don't forget - CSRs represent Chase. If you don't deserve closure in Chase's perspective, why would Chase touch you at all?

Thanks for the swift answers. Guess I'm going to close the CIP and just focus on AMEX for now then

How much of the minimum spend was through legitimate (ie: non-MS) spend? My initial spend for my CSP was 2x Macy's gift cards purchased in-person at Macy's (mom's birthday), which triggered a fraud alert, but resolved with them calling me. About an hour later, I put a nice order with Lenovo for a few laptops, which was well over the $4k minimum. Paid that off a week later when the office reimbursable check came in. No complaining from Chase about it.

I think the "recent inquiries" probably did you in more than the minimum spend, but that depends what you bought. Keep in mind that the banks now do get itemized receipts from many merchants these days. Chase knows when you're buying GCs at Staples.

Wow, I just got a call from Chase and they said that my account has been reinstated after another review! I really wasn't expecting anything after they CS sent some inquiries for me with my story, but I guess I got lucky!

I did 0 MS on that card, though

Hopefully, you did not close the CIP yet...and you can still get the bonus for CSP...

Didn't close the CIP yet, and the CSP bonus has not yet shown up as pending. I'm going to assume that I'll get it somewhat shortly after the first statement.

My apology for the CIP closure comment.

However - I stand correct that if it was not a Chase screw-up, closing CIP would be a correct decision.

Agreed, I would have done so after seeing if any of the ~9000 pending points would have posted or not.

I think that is the biggest key. I think what Chase hates the most, IMO, is the manufactured spend. I think they can work past most other things but they just aren't up for this abuse and yet people to continue to try it daily and then complain when cancelled.
