If you feel your account has been unfairly closed, consider filing a complaint with the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau:

CFPB's complaint form: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/

When someone reports an account closure here, a lot of the same questions get asked. It might be useful to answer some questions in advance. This could help figure out what happened or how to proceed:
  1. Did you transfer UR points to someone with a different address? Different last name?
  2. Did you sell UR points to someone?
  3. Approximately what percentage of your charges earned less than 5x points in the past 12 months?
  4. Did a Chase or non-Chase bank recently close one of your credit cards?
  5. Are you using up a large percentage of your credit line on all Chase and non-Chase credit cards?
  6. Is your total credit line with Chase much higher than with other banks?
  7. Did you apply for many credit cards or other forms of credit in the past 2 months? ("Many" may be hard to define.)
  8. If you have a Chase checking account how much did you typically deposit in money orders per month, if any?
  9. Did you recently start spending a lot more with Chase than in typical months?
  10. Is your monthly balance frequently close to your credit limit?
  11. Approximately what percentage of spending was on gift cards this year?
  12. How much of your bill do you typically pay using WM or KMart bill payment if any?
  13. Do you have a Chase mortgage or other account that might be profitable to Chase?
  14. Has your credit score or credit profile changed recently? As in: significantly more debt, more open credit lines, or a large drop in your credit score?

Pulled all my credit reports. Definitely no late payments or derogatory marks with anyone....I do not have any financial issues whatsoever. In the last 3 years I have opened 4 chase accounts (3 were still open, only 1 closed by me). I sold some points (that were transferred to a united account) a year ago. It was a one time sale. Would something that old still come into play?

are people's spouses typically axed when this happens? I'm trying to gauge that risk factor.
I am really confused about Chase. Did you MS on Chase cards such as Freedom or INK? Base on your info, you did bill pay at WM by using your checking account not VGC, maybe Chase doesnt like WM. Another thing is that maybe you sold your points. It is just my opinion.

Hate to say it, but there isn't exactly a statute of limitations on ToS violations. Very likely the selling of the points is what bit you, as they probably flagged the UA account the points were sent to after seeing umpteen transfers to it, then back researched all of those transfers and are nixxing them.

OP is asking about his spouse - anyone know that can help him out?

I wonder if the shutdown has to do with the business income. I have several ink cards and use them all - for legit business expenses, granted mostly bonus spend. I have good legitimate business income though. Seems like a long time from him selling the points to target him for that now, but I guess it is feasible as well.

Speculative assumption on my part is that they nabbed the purchaser for repeat transfers not matching names, looked into history of UR > UA transfers from other accounts, and processed shutdowns on those. However, there is also a definite possibility they didn't like the amount of (or lack there of) income the business generated and decided to nix the risk.

As far as the spouse things go, I couldn't tell you where for sure, but I know I've read multiple times of all Chase holders at the same address being shutdown, regardless of last name even. There again, who knows what Chase decides to do, depends if they spill coffee on their shirt and are having a bad day it seems like.

Yep - now that you mention it, I looked it up earlier in this thread:

That's a lot of MO activity and it alone could be the culprit—even if it's not from an account that pays Chase. Chase may be snowing you that the closure has anything to do with a Chase account.

That depends on how financially commingled you are with your SO.

Woke up to this dreaded message from Chase:

We're sorry - we suspended your access to chase.com because of recent activity on your account. To re-activate your access, please call us at 1-877-691-8086 and choose option 3. If you are outside the U.S., please call us at 1-713-427-6380. Commercial customers please contact your Client Service Professional or Client Service Officer.

Called in and after 1 hour on hold they told me to go to a branch. Branch rep said I they just needed to fill out an SSA-89 for the checking account that I just opened ($300 bonus). They said it would take 1 business day to restore access.

I just yesterday sold a bunch of UR (multiple transfers to 3rd parties) and was paid via Chase QP but neither the phone or branch rep mentioned anything about it.

But nothing mentioned about this at all. Just the SS verification that the banker forgot to fill out a few days ago. I still don't have access to my accounts yet.

It's a lot easier and less burdensome for Chase to shut you down for generic, non-specific reasons than for them to try to make a case that you sold miles. To them, they are going to shut you down. Why not take the easy route?

I've had it! This thread needs a "clean hands doctrine" before anyone posts another "Why me!?" wail. If you've done something (even slightly) wrong, spare us the sob story and take your lumps.

RNE, tired of having to beat the whole story out of Chase's "victims."

You should hold that banker who opened it accountable but I wouldn't worry too much, once thats scanned in, it takes 24-48hrs to get the account restored.

Technically he or she isn't suppose to proceed until they have you sign it, unless it didn't pop up during the account opening process.

Ss89 is pretty common.

how would chase see mo deposits at other banks? even if they filed SARs, chase cant see that as far as I know.

My wife and my finances are pretty separate. she pays accounts with different banks etc. the only thing shared is address. is it worth changing?
