for I believe almost a year, no foriegn airlines have added routes or increased frequencies/ use better planes that are above 5 hours to HKG. for the western carriers I'm sure its because transatlantic gives infinite money and political reasons.

though I'm sure the airport authority would want middle east, Africa etc. as well. not just europe and NA.

Incentive for europe, north america and australia/nz will be more.

Re: route priorities for HK authorities - I think mostly what they would want for Europe/NA is more capacity to take price pressure off, since it's one factor helping keep more westerners away from HK.

Re: the rest of the world, it's hard to name a specific destination, but there has been a certain amount of pressure for/from Central Asia and I would imagine they might be pleased with Kazakhstan.

How many people fly between HK and Kazakhstan compared to HK and ADL?

I think the concern for the HK authorities is more building new connections with new markets than facilitating an existing one with a second or third tier Australian city.

indeed recently in Hong Kong i feel like the number of people from the central Asia/ middle east region seems to have increased a lot compared to before. thus it partially makes sense some carrier flies there (maybe not cathay though)

"9News can exclusively reveal Cathay Pacific has postponed the reinstatement of its Adelaide service until the end of 2025 due to aircraft availability issues.

This delay will likely leave Adelaide without direct flights to Hong Kong until at least October 2025."

At least it's still confirmed there are plans to resume this service.

Wonder how true the reason is given the low aircraft utilisation hours of CX currently...

it is more like a crew shortage.

Hope that they've learnt their lesson from last year & don't find themselves too stretched for available crew flying hours

Birmingham Airport puts HK as one of the destinations at the top of its wishlist as it expands. Will it mean anything? Who knows.

In regards to that article, there is something wrong with this sentence. Birmingham to Mumbai & Birmingham to HK are not "transatlantic". The writer must be geographically challenged.

"A return to transatlantic connectivity with direct routes to New York, Toronto, Mumbai and Hong Kong is top of the list"

Some potential for new routes from Australia, whether Cathay or competitors, thanks to the revision of Australia's bilateral air services agreements:

"Passenger capacity for Hong Kong has been increased to 84 flights per week, up from 70, with no limits on cargo services"

I guess CX wants to increase the flight to BNS and Perth to 2 daily.
HX may have another 7 weekly flights.
