I just got a notif that Paris, Zurich and London is getting additional capacity in April via the CX app (funny enough I can't see any other mention of this elsewhere) - there's no mention of dates for London so could be in the form of additional flights? I'm pretty sure the other two destinations is just an upgrade to the 777 cos there are concrete dates published for the increased capacity

CX239/256 to be operated by 77K on selected days
Zurich and Paris receives additional flights

This conflict might be the thing driving LHR into 5x daily 77W... which I obviously don't love

Hopefully, these additional flights during the Iran war will reduce the astronomic fares.

But realistically speaking, I believe these additional flight is to take advantage of the astronomical fare.

CX2383 starting at 5890 HKD for one-way... it really isnt that bad in comparison with the other options

This is very normal fare I'd say, comparing with what we seen in recent days.

SQ is now doing double daily flights to London Gatwick for the summer.
I wonder if Cathay will finally return to London Gatwick or starting the long rumored Birmingham flights.

I would assume it would act as an incentive if the war is not stopping anytime soon (Realistically some people may be reluctant to go back to ME3 long after the war is gone)

irrespective of the outcome of war which i dont comment on, the events will certainly reprice risk premium for any ME related commercial activity.

i wouldnt be surprised if ME3 give up their 779 deliveries for airline like CX/SQ as they go in survival mode. Ironically boom of Emirate started in 2001 post 9/11 when they massively boought into discounted airframes to expand their operation. 25yrs on, same ME related conflict is dialing the needle in Asian Careers Favor

i am very bullish CX (more so than SQ given its china affiliation and freedom of navigation) to be able to penetrate into the void or ME3 hub and spark model

QR has sent 20 widebodies to TEV in Spain for long-term storage. Given the current situations, I will say passengers will not be comfortable to take ME3 at least until this year.

If and when the situation stabilizes in the Mideast, there will certainly be plenty of people who won't want to fly with a ME3 carrier. There will likely be plenty more who will fly them for the right price, and if EK/QR/EY discount fares significantly in an effort to win back lost business they will have no shortage of customers.

I am not sure to what extent CX would ever be able to pose a challenge to the ME3 given the geography. Much of the ME3's business is connections between Europe and the Subcontinent, for example. HKIA is in the wrong location to compete for those customers.

I thought the QR widebodies are mostly A333s, which were supposed to be retired years ago but were brought back on due to the Airbus/Qatar scandal. However, I still agree with you that QR is looking to reduce capacity given the current situation and recovery rate

There are 8 flights to LHR scheduled today thanks to 2 77Ws decided to have technical issues together last night.

Hah, any chance they will let go the ex-CX leased 77W? I think CX would be more than happy to lease them back ;)
