Update 2, Electric Boogaloo: no useful answers from CX PR. My own take on the KA carve-up would be that premium routes with solid margin are handed to CX, leisure routes with more price-sensitive travellers are handed to UO. Could be mix and match for some countries, eg Manila has premium travellers ex-HKG due to call centres, one reason there's a CX lounge there, so that might be handed over to CX; but Cebu might be far more leisure and low-cost, so it goes UO. Doesn't mean a city can't have both airlines, too Manila has a lot of low-cost traffic so maybe some flights CX and some UO.
All KA tickets are to be cancelled except PEK, SHA, PVG, TPE and DPS

Plus I am unsure if HX is even healthy enough to fly consider CX is already doing so bad in HKG.

They HR vultures are poaching former flight attendants :
My translation-
Open hiring of broadcast hostesses,
Today Cathay has abandoned many ladies
We are looking for Eloquent, young and good looking broadcasters
Cathay FA's are what we are looking for
You will be given priority
We offer training
To turn you from a Cathay FA to a celebrity broadcaster.

In my case, I fly DAC quite a bit and the overnight return was bad enough. But if it becomes LCC (i.e. UO) on top of that, I'd likely fly via BKK or even KUL in future.
That then has a knock-on effect, as my MP Status could be in jeopardy. Which by extension makes me less likely to pay extra $$$ to fly CX if I no longer get lounge access, etc

If rights diverted to HX or "Greater Bay Airlines" (on basis that Shenzhen is no longer deemed "foreign" by the ATLA - witness HX ownership also) then CX likely to face much stiffer competition overall when flights resume in earnest.

So this now likely becomes a political issue - which is unlikely to auger well.

I wonder what happens to former KA slots at HKIA.

In terms of traffic rights, I don't think the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department could be a barrier, considering HKSAR now holding shares of CX. The issues are about the Mainland Authority. A few months ago Reuters reported that CX faced difficulties when they negotiated to with Mainland Authority for transferring traffic rights from KA to CX. Now I don't think there has been no progress made since May. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-h...-idUSKBN2320BR
