Wow. And it was only in recent years that it rebranded to Cathay Dragon.

UO applied for latest round of wage subsidies where CX and KA did not https://hk.on.cc/hk/bkn/cnt/finance/...00842_001.html - no cuts in UO.

I remember reading a SCMP article back then that CX and/or KA (cant remember) didnt apply for the wage subsidy so that they could lay off staff. Sad news. I wonder what will happen to the PRC routes. I remember hearing that the routes were under KA not CX

I mean it might. There's still going to be room for that type of aircraft in the fleet long-term and Cathay as a group is not going to be walking away from mainland China (in fact that may be one of the first things to spin back up given how things currently look...) it'll just say Pacific on the side rather than Dragon.

What will CX do with the single aisle aircrafts of KA?

I guess some may come over - similar to the SilkAir/Singapore Airlines integration.

But I am afraid most of the A320s are going to HK Express (maybe rebrand it as Cathay Express?)

The A321s are actually CX-ready - I think they have 24J seats and have the same interior in both J and Y as CX Regional A33Ps.

A330s are probably just going to CX - and CX will basically take over those routes, since they are probably higher yielding anyways

Sad day for Cathay Dragon. Flew them once a month from KUL to HKG before the pandemic..
Does that mean the route from KUL to HKG will now be under Cathay Pacific?

Can CX fly the routes vacated by KA? Or does CX need to reapply for rights on all KA routes?

No idea.. that's beyond my realm of aviation knowledge.

But I know I've flown from KUL to HKG on Cathay Pacific a few times. I'm not sure why it happened and I was surprised to see the green logo at the gate.

I would imagine they have received assurances, at least on the mainland, that CX can take over the KA routes. Otherwise they have just given up on Mainland China which wouldn’t make any sense.

If KA does get absorbed, then yes, KUL will return to CX. The route was handed over to KA in 2016. Definitely good news for KUL regulars.

KUL does from time to time get CX metal but still operated as KA.
