I have a June redemption booking using AA miles as part of my trip ex DCA to HKT (and back of course). I received an email this morning saying the HKG-HKT and return segments would be cancelled so I'm waiting to see how this will be handled. Would be great if CX picked up the route but I doubt they will...so I'll see what happens. Hopefully I can still get there on this redemption but at this point I am not optimistic that my second attempt to visit will actually be successful (COVID not withstanding).

I have a cash booking that also includes HKG-HKT and have been offered flight HKG-BKK connecting to Bangkok Airways for BKK-HKT. Sad to see KA exit the marketplace.

But now I have no idea. MH is also on shaky grounds so if both KA and MH are gone, that leaves me with Air Asia from KUL to get to HKG...? eugh.
Really hoping CX takes over KUL to HKG.

But UO already has the rights to the route (in addition to KA rights). UO has 11 weekly flights scheduled starting mid-December.

I'm in the same boat. I used to frequent KUL to HKG then to TPE and or MNL for work on a monthly basis, and to YVR when I go to my home to Vancouver.
But now I have no idea. MH is also on shaky grounds so if both KA and MH are gone, that leaves me with Air Asia from KUL to get to HKG...? eugh.

Of course nth is certain at this stage and those are rumours only.

If they do not retake this one, one might wonder why CX would retake any of the other non-Chinese KA destinations.
Traffic does justify widebodies, at least when back to normalcy.

Shame about KA, as a European, I quite liked them.

Definitely agree with this. With 4 flights per day (before the pandemic) and most of the times completely full on a wide body A330 it WAS justified to have a CX widebody plane replace the route.
But, we're in 2020 and I'm sure they could easily replace with HK express and an A320 now.

I would put my bet that CX would take KUL (and PEN) too. KUL has been run by CX, and was transferred to KA not because of low demand. And both CX and KA offered similar level of service. So now when KA is gone, it’s sensible to transfer back to CX instead of UO. After all I’d be surprised if CX group serves the whole Malaysia with its LCC only.
