Not sure tbh, seen a couple of theories - 1, that on the A380 if the gear isn't cycled often enough it requires quite significant maintenance before it next can and 2, it isn't MNPS (Minimum Navigation Performance Specifications) certified - https://skybrary.aero/articles/minim...fications-mnps

Indeed, weird how this one on the outside at least was in full China Southern livery- usually the previous carriers logos are at least masked or removed. Either way interesting to see how this pans out and whether getting HiFly to operate the flights will make a difference

The only thing I can think of is that the ex-China Southern bird was stored in the dry heat and so is in better condition for a return to flight with the already painted one stored in a wetter and moist place needs work

That one in Lourdes had stickers applied for the photo op and was then returned to all white, it's widely believed that one will never fly again. As you say it's not exactly the perfect environment for long term storage and that aircraft also has the sticky situation of that no longer certified ex-Singapore interior that would need ripping out and replacing where as the China Southern example is to all intent and purposes good to go.

9H-MIP as seen in March -

It hasn't budged an inch in years.

Why is the Singapore interior not certified anymore?

It relates to a scandal involving the manufacturer Koito over the falsification of certification data. Koito are no longer in the aviation seat business.

A 10 year EASA exception was granted for their use on Singapore 77Ws & A380s but that only lasted until 31st July 2021 at which point they had to be removed from service and replaced. Hi-Fly acknowledged that they needed to do that and they had a plan to do just that before COVID turned up and resulted in them eventually just retiring the fleet. So 9H-MIP is still as it was the day it left SQ.

I believe this airline won't last more than one to two years after they start official operations

Maybe I got the wrong end of the stick with the initial story but I thought it was akin to that wee lad in Scotland who claimed millions of listeners to his radio station broadcasting from his garden shed.

So, what exactly is going on here? Are they actually taking delivery of an A380?!

Taken delivery it seems Arrived Prestwick yesterday in China Southern livery

Would that make the trip noticeably more bumpy than usual? Thinking of the reduced speed v jet stream.

You watch, that bucket of bones will be wet-leased to BA before you can say "I'm not getting on that!"

Anyone notice or comment on how poorly designed their website is? It looks like it was put together by some high school students. Honestly, most start ups these days - even if it is just a canned energy drink - have very snazzy websites that at least seem more legitimate.
