I have a booking that either need to cancel or change. If I cancel, I’ll loose the expired companion voucher. If I amend, it’ll have to be within the 12 month validity. The agent on the phone also said that the new flight would have to be within the same Avios zone. Is that correct?

Thank you, I thought so. The only thing I wasn’t sure about was the constraint on the Avios zone.

If I make a change, I can make changes again or even cancel before the date of the new fight, right?

If this is a redemption booking, not a commercial booking you can make changes, subject to availability and subject to a change fee of £35 per person.

But I thought that even avios bookings booked under the policy could be changed for free, subject to availability?!

Well to be fair you aren't giving us much help here with specifics. BWC ends on 30 September and there are two BWC policies depending on when you bought the ticket. There are circumstances where a free change is possible, so for example if the ticket was bought before 8 June, for all travel completion by 30 September, and no previous changes that would be fee free.

To be honest, this booking was changed multiple times. It was originally booked for 2021. Then rebooked following involuntary cancellations. Probably more than once. So I think this was the first voluntary change. I had to call twice today, as the first representative, after checking with their supervisor, said I could not book beyond the companion voucher’s expiry date, which contradicted the advice I received yesterday. Anyway, I HUACA, asked for the changed I wanted and it’s all done, waiting for ticketing. I could’ve even changed Avios zone had I wanted to. As new dates are Off Peak, I even got some avios back.

P.S. Going to BLQ in November!

I'm due to travel on Wednesday next week - flight only - GLA-LHR-SOF and back. Might need to postpone the trip and wanted to check if i'll be able to simply get an FTV for the full value of the trip to use on a future booking, or whether i'll incur a change fee if cancelling (rather than simply changing dates)?
  • Booking was made in July, so past the 8th of June date for fee-free changes (which is why i'm not clear if that applies to full cancellations for FTVs or simply for rebooking to new dates)
  • Booking was paid for with cash and some avios to reduce the cash price
  • destination isn't important for future rebooking - this was purely a TP trip before my year end (8th December), so I have plenty of choices to rebook before that date - hence cancellation is preferable.
  • how long does it usually take for the FTV to appear (as i'd be keen to rebook as soon as I can - likely in October/November - to secure the best pricing currently available)
Any advice/clarification would be appreciated

If both outward and inward journeys are for travel 30th Sep 22 or earlier you can apply for a voucher for a full credit under the 'Heathrow Capacity Restrictions Voucher Policy'.

Worked perfectly - no issues with cancellation for FTV - was in my inbox after about 10 minutes.
