Will take some refurbishment to remove the speedmarque from the headrest, and middle table!

A bit of filler and some T-Cut and it will be fine.

Could always leave it there like those BMI logos were left on the crew computer cabin function (what’s their name?!) screens

It looks like they are adding USB and audio to the seats as well. Remember that the seats down the back don’t have a table, one less job! It wouldn’t be a dissimilar job to what BA achieved on the 747 seats in WT. New covers and cushions on the old frames.
BA have done this before. Some of the last A320/1 deliveries with the old converter seats were delivered from the factory with recycled seats (IIRC from the G-BUSx series).

I dont know know for sure that this is what IB will do. But it seems wasteful - cash and environmentally - not to and with a CEO like Willie “Show me the F***ing Money / Slasher” Walsh, it seems like the kind of thing that would get someone a bonus.

Is this true?

BA could always use these spare seats to refit the ex-BMI A319/A320 fleet.

Tobias - my post isn't clear. They have the normal "meal table" but not the table under B/E for use with Club. IIRC the curtain can extend just behind the exits on the 319/320 but the table is not fitted to emergency exit rows and all rows behind.

The could, but the BMI A319s are starting to leave over the next few months. I think the plan has changed slightly since the addition of the Monarch slots, but the plans was as A32xNEOs can online that the 319 fleet would be retired. With the exBMI ones towards the front of the queue.

I'm not the biggest fan of Air Asia BUT for 15-20 GBP on top of the cheapest ticket you can 'upgrade' to a fully flexible ticket which also gets you priority boarding, priority baggage, a 'hot seat' (selectable seat with more legroom) and a hot meal and refreshment (no booze though). On top of that, if you pay 15 GBP for 'Red Carpet' you can check-in, be escorted by the check-in staff through passport control to the lounge, who'll then pick you up for boarding and drive you (in a car) to the steps of the aeroplane. Alternatively, the scheduled carriers have full meal service, lots of pitch, inflight entertainment and chargers (basically everything you get on a long haul flight). Different world.

The original post mentions that the Gatwick fleet will not be retrofitted with the new seats.

However on my booking in October, I can see 30 rows instead of 28 on the A320.

What is going on?

You will have one of the G-GAT* A320’s which are already based at Gatwick.

The fairly new sharklet fitted A320’s which are being moved from Heathrow to Gatwick are the ones that won’t be refitted with the new seats.

The plan to retire the BMI A319s is being reviewed in light of the Monarch slots. As is the retirement previously announced for some of the LHR B747s.

For me, that sounds like good news!

More technically, does this account for the apparent deferral of the two planned 2017 retirements (G-BNLK and G-BNLP) to the end of 2018, or is there a further possible deferral plan in the works?

BA have just bought a number of LGW slots and leased an LHR slot from SAA for 5 years. The current band aid fix to the use them or lose them problem is to Lease some ACMI aircraft from Titan Germania and possibly others, and hold back some retirements.

Longer term BA has to acquire more aircraft and train more crews or lease the slots to other operators and take a commission. From what I understand the latter idea has been ruled out, so that means more aircraft and crew, which is difficult to source immediately.

What stays or goes and when is currently under review. I have no doubt if any more slots for LHR/LGW become available at reasonable prices, BA will grab those too, and worry about operating them later.

I also think the recently announced IFE improvements to 9 B747s may indicate further d checks and cabin refreshment is now planned.

I read SAA were going to be dropping down to 1 JNB flight a day along with no longer using A340's on the route, so leasing the slot. Does the slot have any conditions that BA have to use it for SA flights. And on SAA running only A330's, so a significant reduction on seats on that route, is it likely that BA will run a pair of A380's year round?

Slightly off topic....
