** AA Domestic First on two cabin will earn business TPs and avios for departures on or after 11 January 2017 - see reference posts for more details **

** Note that the practice of AA Domestic 3-class service flights booking into A for 210 TPs when I was no longer available ceased in September 2017. Discussion here. **

Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. The guide to using ITA matrix in post #4 (see here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520. Also the BA fare for LHR-HEL-TLL at ~£235 is still available and would get 200 TPs for a return.

EUR 500 for a mileage run, just for a joker?

So I found a mileage run this sat/sun that would set me back EUR500 plus hotel in Glasgow. It would provide me the TPs I'd need to reach 6000 and therefore another joker. Besides losing my weekend, is it worth EUR500 plus the hotel in GLA? Any advice?

(I'm ex-OTP, and I need 140 tps. My collection year ends Monday.)

Ie:

ExUK> LON > JFK > LAX > MIA > EZE RT

Any help would be much appreciated

Try starting in Scandinavia and going on AA. All their routes run via JFK/MIA/DFW and their fares are low because of terrible transfer times.

I'd have to say no to this one as I find that, in hitting that level of points, I struggle to find the time or inclination to fly enough additional flights to make use of an extra Joker. 500 Euros, and your time, is a lot to waste on something you may not use!

Surely it's a no-brainer given that a Joker can be used for friends or family and that you need not fly yourself?

If you have friends or family who can make use of the benefit of the joker it must surely be easy to extract 500 of value from one?

Isn't it more dependant on what you'll be using the joker for? If you're planning to book 4 CW seats to SYD with your 2for1s then it's absolutely worth it in my eyes.
If you're just going to open availability for one ticket to the US then maybe not so much!

Thanks for reply on this. Unfortunately I am not travelling in July / Aug, so would be limited to hitting the 600 in one go in June and that seems to be a tall order at the moment with the offers around. I guess I will just have to go for the May one and at least get it for 1 year, thanks for your help.

Hi all, first post on this after following for quite a while

having utilised this great resource for a couple of previous point runs, I'm now looking at booking an ex CAI run as previously mentioned on here and using it to get some holiday in various stops in the US.

One bit I'm hoping some of you seasoned runners could advise on is the best way to position to CAI.

Ive been thinking of flying out the night before on BA which gets in around 10pm I believe and then the plane overnights and returns the next morning, (which would be the first segment of my run)

Ive only previously started from Dublin, and with multiple flights going there, it's not been too much of a concern, the bit that's got me thinking is if my outbound flight to CAI is cancelled or heavily delayed etc, then would that affect my whole trip starting from CAI or would BA allow me to remain in LHR (assuming it was a cancellation), and pick up the first flight from LHR to the US? I know there is a rule around missing the first segment, but if this was down to an issue with the same airline, would that be enforced? Naturally the positioning to CAI would be a separate ticket to the rest of the trip.

thanks in advance

Hi,

I wonder if someone could give me some ideas on a potential TP run to be combined with a planned vacation to the US in the 2017 UK summer school holidays (end July/August timeframe).

  • I'm currently on 700TP with a desire to getting to 1500TP by 8th Dec
  • I can potentially do a couple of SH+ trips if needed later in the year, but in the meantime I am hoping to maximise the TP earned during a trip to the US (Knoxville, TN) this summer and am happy to take a unusual route to get there
  • We plan to be away for 2 - 3 weeks in total and may go on an additional elsewhere in the US for a mini-vacation, which could be included in the trip if stopovers are allowed. Otherwise we can book this separately.

I have a GUF2 voucher (which has already been extended by 6 months) and needs to be used by July 7th. Would be great if the GUF2 voucher could be used in this trip; my initial plan was to try to use the voucher to book a post-GCSE exam celebration trip in 2018 but the voucher will expire too soon

I'm happy to do the leg work in looking at the various options, but would be great if anyone could give me a starting steer on good starting points and landing points in the US to maximise TP.....

Thanks in advance!

My own thought process is that the PE fares to CAI are pretty good, PE on the 787 is supposed to be excellent, there's the possibility of UUAing or getting an Op-Up to CW and presumably despite the separate tickets, if you cannot get to CAI because of a cancelled BA flight, it would be impossible for BA to refuse to reschedule/protect your subsequent flights from CAI which cannot take off because the inbound plane never arrived.

I'm also not sure I'd be comfortable flying into CAI on the same morning as my flight was due to depart, so given that an overnight would seem to be necessary, BA looks like the best option.

One last wrinkle is to recall that flights NOT starting in the UK avoid APD, so getting your positioning flights JER-LHR-CAI or DUB-LHR-CAI would seem to make a lot of sense, albeit it leaves you needing a positioning flight for your positioning flight :-)

Although the voucher expires on 7th July you can use it to GUF flights up to 355 days later, so you'd be able to get a June flight out of it in 2018

Also if you get within two weeks of GUF expiry you can call up and a 6 month extension should be available.

Having a lot of fun trying to get ORC from when AA cancelled our NAS-MIA-LAX-YVR and rebooked us onto WS NAS-YYZ (downgraded to whY) and then AC YYZ-YVR. Is it BAMissingAvios on FT that can help in these instances where you've been back and forth between BA customer service and still had no resolution?

Yes that is the user.

Any reason they are not playing ball on ORC?

Some more information in the ORC guide https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/brit...r-s-guide.html

Followed everything in the ORC guide, even using the exact wording. They seem to be stuck on the fact that AA is telling BA the flights in the booking weren't taken. Yep.... well aware of that, given it's a request for ORC as they rebooked us on something completely different! Just going back and forth and not quite understanding the request. Hopefully BAMissingAvios can help ^
