Welcome to the thread. This is a continuation of the highly popular 2016 Tier Point thread. We keep track of other prices, as well as useful reference information for those planning tier point runs.

Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. The guide to using ITA matrix in post #4 (see here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520. Also the BA fare for LHR-HEL-TLL at ~£235 is still available and would get 200 TPs for a return.

AA ILN7B4T1 MAN to SAT/OKC/LIT - ~£1,046 in J

It seems the MAN-SAT AA fare has been refilled yet again so details below. Also covers MAN to OKC, and LIT..

Doesn't work for other UK non-LON AA departure points or allow routing via LON.

Note that the routing via HEL and on to JFK is no longer possible now since the fare rules only allow routing on the TATL on AA operated flights.

Routings such as MAN-BOS-DFW-SAT or MAN-JFK-PHX-SAT should be possible. 640 TPs is possible with MAN-JFK-xxx-SAT routing, where xxx is somewhere on the US west coast and is over 2000 miles from JFK - a list of > 2000 mile routes which earn 140 TPs is in post #2 of this thread.

EDIT: note that going via a west coast airport like PHX or LAX may be difficult now since the maximum permitted mileage in the fare has been lowered - see this post for more details.

This allows positioning for your inbound TATL prior to the Sunday. You can therefore set off from HNL on Friday night arriving in PHX on Saturday morning, do PHX-JFK during Saturday, have a night in NYC on Saturday night and then do your TATL on Sunday.

Travel from last stopover must commence no later than midnight 12 months after departure from fare origin.

If you want to stopover in London on the way back it is a lot cheaper since the APD would only be £26 for the LHR-DUB leg. Therefore at fairly minimal additional cost you can stopover in London on the return to go home, and then do the last leg some weeks or months later at your convenience.

2 transfers permitted in each direction free.
So 2 in Europe and 2 in the US each way.

An overnight connection of up to 24 hrs between flights would be counted as a transfer, anything beyond that would be a stopover.

To HNL the optimal routing is something like ZAG-LHR-XXX-LAX/PHX-HNL and return which gets you 920 TPs. There does also seem to be an IB service between ZAG and MAD so you may be able to do ZAG-MAD-LHR for an extra 40 TPs.

For domestic US flights they now credit at 140/40 rather than 210/60. If you look at post #2 of this thread there is a list of >2,000 mile flights which will earn 140 TP.

exOTP Advanced Purchase Fare ILN8R4C1 to PHX

Some information below on this advanced purchase OTP fare. I think this does cover multiple US destinations, but this is highlighted for PHX which is particularly cheap.

Routings via HEL are possible so: OTP-LHR-HEL-JFK-LAX-PHX-LAX-JFK-HEL-LHR-OTP.

As it is an advanced purchase fare there is no explicit end date.

For some reason, Matrix can only get the £1,046 price routing MAN-ORD then onwards to SAT. Not sure if it is a Matrix error, will keep trying. Fare rules are pretty clear about 2 transfers, but if your put 2 transfers in or into JFK/PHL from MAN, the price rockets.

e.g. MAN-PHL-PHX-SAT and return comes in at £1,939.

If it's like the most recent ones to SAT, then that price rocketing may well be down to the MPM restrictions being in place meaning it forces it onto a more expensive fare basis.

That's odd. Tried to look at the routing table for the fare in EF, and I can't even find the fare there. Will see if I can work it out.

You may be very correct.

MPM, according to EF for MAN-SAT is 5827 miles, which MAN-ORD-SAT is under, but MAN-PHL/JFK-PHX-SAT is of course over.

Folks, looking for an 'easy' TP run with overnight either in BCN or MAD, outbound from LHR/LGR or DUB. Short weekend run, 1 night stay - any ideas?

LHR - MAD - BCN - MAD - LHR. 120tp's for £256. I've done this run and it's very straightforward; if you play about with dates you can get on the 777 outbound and the A340 inbound.
