Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. The guide to using ITA matrix in post #4 (see here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520. Also the BA fare for LHR-HEL-TLL at ~£235 is still available and would get 200 TPs for a return.

Hi,

Firstly I found this site via google and there is a real nice lot of good info here, thanks for putting it all together.

I am after a bit of specific advice if possible. I have never done a TP run before and I hit silver last year more from luck than design. My TP year ends on the 8th June and I need 325 TP to retain it.

I have to travel to the US in both May and June and I was looking at the MAN-BOS AA offer at the moment as I cant see anything else about for the US.

I was just going to take it for May, as I think it gets me 360 TP since it goes either via JFK or PHL for 140+40+40+140 (please let me know if I got that wrong) at a cost of £1006.

But then I started thinking I might be better off trying straight for 600 TP (or as near as poss) in June but I cant seem to get anything to work route wise that doesn't double or triple the cost using MAN-BOS. I tried several suggestions on here with no luck. Does anyone know of a good TP route for this run?

Thanks for any help with this

You should definitely just do 600 TPs in June and July. You'd get Silver for two years...

If you can't find a decent TP route from MAN, you could just take a day or two in BOS and fly BOS-LGA-DCA (or similar) once or twice. Just use Google Flights and figure out what 1-stop AA flights are cheapest in First/Business...

I just booked SEA-LAX-CUN-MIA-SEA in J for $509 or 394GBP, yields 360TP or 1.1GBP/TP.

Plenty of dates in August/September/October.

If my

Tier Point collection year ends on 08 Jun 2017
Card expiry date 31 Jul 2017
Will my membership when I qualify by 08 June 2017 be valid for one year or 2?

To date I have 1520 TPs... but still Blue because I haven't done my 4 BA flights yet.

Once I have booked my flights , confirmed and ticketed, do you think BA will give me Gold first (if I ask politely) or am I SOL till I do my 4 flights?

You will be gold through to the end of the following membership year. In your case, this year ends 8/6/17, next year ends 8/6/18 and you will retain gold until 31/7/18.

Don't think they will even entertain the idea of just giving you gold even with the flights booked.

You need to do the 4 BA/IB flights before 8 June. No exceptions.

My other comment might have been a bit confusing, although it's a common theme throughout this thread. If you do 600 or 1500 TPs within a month or two of your new TP year, you get the rest of that TP year as well as all of the following year. (i.e. almost 2 years of status)

Therefore, if you're not close at all to your TP target (such as the person I was replying to), it can makes sense to just push a TP run into the next TP year. As others have stated, you still have your existing status for almost 2 months.

I need to make a trip to Buenos Aires at some point over the summer months (July-Aug) and Im wondering if there is a good TP route I could use to obtain lots of points. Does anyone know if a route that could get 3 or even 4 140TP legs in exists? I am based in London and can be away for up to 10 days. I need to have a min of 4 days in Buenos Aires.

Ie:

ExUK> LON > JFK > LAX > MIA > EZE RT

Any help would be much appreciated

Have you tried looking on itamatrix as a starting point? If you can give some more detail in terms of more precise dates and nudget you may get more of a response.

A couple of things to consider:

May be easier to do this as two separate tickets. The first being the TATL and then a second ticket around US down to EZE.

There are some rules about total journey length that can impact on tickets? I wonder if the route you suggested would fall into this carergory. Therefore you may be better looking at something like AMS, HEL, LHR, JFK, MIA, EZE.

For my TP run this year I am planning to fly BKK-KUL in J on Royal Jordanian. They offer a same day return with 2hr 40min turn around in KUL. Any reason that this would cause problems with Malaysian immigration? I originally figured that I could just get my return boarding card at the KUL transfer desk, but then I would arrive back in Thailand without a departure stamp which I think would raise suspicion from Thai immigration. Anyone ever done this?

Thanks for relying Madfish. Answers to your questions:
- Looking for best TP to £ ratio I can find. Sub £2 is the target
- Dates within the July/Aug window are flexible but the last two weeks of July would be best
- I have played around with itamatrix but struggling to get it to give me any unconventional routings

I will have another go and look at the option of two separate bookings as you suggested.

If anyone else has any experience in trying to achieve what I am aiming for please let me know

The Thais are well used to that, all they're concerned with is that your Thai entry and exit stamps are in order.

Lots of expats spending a long holiday in Thailand with their 'sweethearts' do a visa run to the border. As long as you exit, then you'll be fine to re-enter.

Not sure why Malaysia would care, as you won't officially enter or exit the country.
